Andrew Carnegie makes it clear that people in society with wealth should help those who deserve the financial help. If those in need of help put in their effort, then why shouldn’t they be helped by those who don’t need it? In the Life of the Average Coal Miner, the harsh conditions that children faced is revealed. Children would work for hours in a crucial and dangerous environment and be rewarded with very little money that did not equal to the amount of work they put in. It is unfair to those who worked in the conditions in the Life of the Average Coal Miner. It is almost a betrayal to permit such inequality in our country and this is what Carnegie was standing for. He is one of only two men who signed three of the most important documents is the creation of America: the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. Being a chairman of the Continental Congress’s Finance Committee, he was trusted with traded with foreign countries, and handling the country’s finances. His knowledge of money management helped him save the country from financial crisis a few times. This title, however, also earned him many enemies because other jealous individuals felt he was only doing it go gain money and not from his loyalty to his nation. Carnegie believed it was the obligation of the rich to redistribute their excess wealth back into society though not directly as simply giving it away could lead to dependency and slothfulness rather though improvements and the building of public resources such as libraries. Although he is known for this great service it came at a cost Carnegie was known for his philanthropy, but he brought down unions with the help of Henry Fick when they protested wage cuts and long work weeks with little pay. Debs, on the other hand, saw that the way to fighting the high amount of poverty was for the government to step in and own all industries and distribute the wealth accordingly to the amount of work. Debs caught national attention during the Pullman strike in which workers stood against put cuts they questioned why should a few obtain great wealth off the back-breaking labors of hundreds if not thousands forced to work long hours in poor conditions if the government followed their plan they believed that much more would benefit than those who would not. Attended: Blood on the Mountain, February 21, 2017 On February 21, 2017, I attended the documentary film: Blood on the Mountain. This documentary film described the lives of coal miners in West Virginia, it showed the hardships coal miners went through to keep their jobs and their health safe from mining corporations. In relation to my class: Appalachia Studies I understood these hardships, it also made me aware of how these hardships affect the Appalachia region and the families of the coal miners. Despite understanding some of these hardships I will never be able to describe these hardships fully in their entirety, but I can relate these hardships to the course, Appalachia Studies to the best of my abilities.

Carnegie cut the wages of his workers to donate money elsewhere. In document D, there are two images of Carnegie, one is giving a wage cut notice to the workers and the other is giving a check to Scotland and donating a library to Pittsburg. Carnegie’s employees were working hard and trying to survive in a tough economy, their wages did not deserve a cut.

During this time, the Industrial Revolution transformed the nation, railroads had dissipated all throughout the country, and economic classes began to form, separating the wealthy from the poor. As a matter of fact, Carnegie donated most of his funds to charities, universities and libraries in his last few years.
Carnegie was considered a Robber Baron for many reasons. For example, he gained huge profits because of his workers low wages. In the excerpt, “Who was Andrew Carnegie,” the author said, “his steel workers were often pushed to long hours and low wages.” Workers worked in harsh conditions and received no benefits causing them to live in poverty with scarce food, clothing, and shelter. Workers were tired of the low wages and decided to go on strike.
