Farmers of the late 19th century faced several struggles as they attempted to feed themselves and a growing nation. Though they were undeniably crucial to the country, the country often abandoned them to fend against their problems themselves. These desertments lead to the creation of several movements, such as The Grange, and of political parties such as the Populists. The challenges of American farmers were often intertwined and difficult to get to one cause of the problem. Increasing railroad use and inflated prices hurt the farmers tremendously, which then lead to widespread debt and the cry for silver to be used in the money standard, which then resulted in overproduction of goods to try to overcompensate for the burgeoning debt, but only made it worse.

George Hewes was an ordinary shoemaker who wanted to help the Patriot cause without making a “name” for himself. During the revolution he participated in a few events that were major turning points. Hewes’ ideas are similar to the goals of the tea party because they both support mobs and protests to convey their political point. The tea party was a form of protest and Hewes supports mobs and protests. Mobbing and protesting are ways for ordinary people to become involved in actions that can be beneficial to a revolution without being famous.

Throughout the middle of the 17th century, the relationship between Great Britain and her American colonies was plagued by stresses. Both the Stamp Act, passed in 1765, and the Tea Act, enacted in 1773, caused colonists great ire towards the British due to feelings of unfair taxation. As a response to the Tea Act, colonists in Boston ruined thousands of pounds of tea by pouring it into the Boston harbor (History.com). Earlier, Benjamin Franklin had attempted to get all of the colonies to meet together, but they had abstained (U-s-history.com). After the Tea Party, however, the Coercive Acts were put into place by Parliament, urging the colonists to greater action, causing them to assemble the 1st Continental Congress (History.com).

Populist Movement Success or Failure In 1892, a group of  middle class farmers in the South and Midwest evolved creating what was known as the populist party. The populists came together to discuss how the government was ignoring the economic problems they were facing, creating  lots of anger among the party, and resulting in the formation of the populist movement. Throughout this Movement, the populists were unsuccessful in ways of  not accomplishing everything they hoped to receive in the future. If the populists were not completely successful in their Movement, then what did the populists receive from the revolt?

The 19th century was a period of widespread social, economical and political problems in the United States, from the 1890s to the 1920s in need of reform. Both parties were created by the people’s dissatisfaction with the government and its ability to appeal to the majority. The Populist movement was founded my farmers, laborers and middle class civilians that wanted government regulation in the economy, more authority in the government, educating immigrants, to prevent government corruption and high positions to be based on experience.

One of the issues that the Populist wanted to fix was unlimited minting of silver. Populist wanted the currency to be changed to silver due to the facet that is would help the farming manufacturers. Populism only wanted to help the life in the United States to improve the conditions they saw as a problem. Even though people did not get paid all the same, the populist only wanted to them to get paid fairly. The impact of populism was not only affecting the people as an individual but at a whole group like in a workplace.

The Boston Tea Party Have you ever wondered what it would be like if an iconic moment in history had never happened? Although The Boston Tea Party cost Great Britain a great deal of important resources it was a necessary event for the Colonists to get their freedom. The British Parliament passed the Intolerable Acts to punish the Colonies for dumping British goods in the harbor. The Boston Tea Party also paved the way for the Revolutionary War. Therefore the American way of life would be extremely different today had the Boston Tea Party never happened.
