Petrified for their lives, taking cover, saying goodbye to loved ones, buckets of tears, innocent people slaughtered. World War two was violent, brutal, homicidal, and just downright horrifying. Japan and the United States had been at war for four years from December 7 1941 to 9145 before the final bombs were dropped. The two atomic bombs were dropped from pearl harbor on December 7, 1941, and 15 days later Japan surrendered. To end the horrific ongoing crisis, Truman made a thought-through decision to allow the two bombs to be dropped. Although over fifteen hundred thousand individual’s lives were shattered, after the two final atomic bombs were dropped, when Japan surrendered millions of lives were saved, the Soviet Union had been intimidated into leaving Japan alone, and the war was no longer prolonged after four whole years of horror. …show more content…
Radiation was a big factor in the Japanese cities bombed; many people were burned or at least affected by the radiation from the bombs, “15 - 20 % died from injuries or illness attributed to radiation” (Document 8) people were seriously injured or died later in life from radiation poisoning. The long-term effects of the radiation were leukemia, cancer, and lung problems. Because of the radiation, well after the war had ended people were still very much affected. Imagine if Truman didn't drop the atomic bombs and ended the war, there would be even more suffering from many sources that would have affected even more
WWII-Atomic Bomb Thousands and thousands of kids, families gone in seconds from one bomb that was ordered to hit the enemy forces by the United States president. The U.S had a tough decision to make when fighting the second world war and when the first know thing was made called the atomic bomb. The question is, was president Truman justified in dropping the two atomic bombs and killing thousands of lives in a blink of an eye to end the war? Truman wasn’t justified in dropping the bomb because of all the lives that had to be sacrificed. If he just stuck to the original plan and kept going from island to island then maybe less lives would of been taken.
Truman did not utilize his power well while faced with the decision to drop the bomb. This is because there were other ways to solve the problem, and it was savage and brutal. The relationship between Japan and America will never be the same. It was so inhumane to drop the bomb.
These lives of innocent civilians were lost on top of countless amount of people who were affected by radiation. No matter how good their reasoning for using these types of weapons, President Truman should not have used them. An argument to drop the atomic brom, from a military standpoint, is that using these weapons could put America superior over other nations. Dropping these atomic bombs would make other countries fear the United States army. With other countries fearing the United States, that could result in Americans being more safe, because no country would want to mess with our military.
The decision to drop atomic bombs was not just a strict military measure to to force japan to unconditionally surrender, but was a diplomatic measure to intimidate the Soviet Union.
So, Truman made the difficult but necessary decision to drop the first atomic bombs. The mass destruction caused the Japanese to realize that they had already lost the war, and they needed to give up. All in all, the action taken by President Harry S. Truman was the right decision because it ended the war and saved American soldiers’
It could roughly save 30 million people Ground invasions Dropping the Bombs The decision to use the Atomic Bomb affected the way individuals like Truman perceived the war. Even though Harry Truman’s decision affected the way the war turned he did think of how the bomb will affect Japan and its civilians. Which made me think that he did create a way to stop the war which is why, I would also believe in dropping the bombs. President Truman had three options which did make him perceive the way he will fight, 1 to continue bombing Japanese cities, 2 to invade Japan, and 3 demonstrate the bomb on an unpopulated island or an inhabited Japanese city.
The final decision to drop the atomic bomb was left to President Harry S. Truman. If the bomb was not dropped, it is believed that the war would have gone on for about four more years. Truman once said, “We have used it to shorten the agony of war, in order to save the lives of thousands and thousands of young Americans''(Doc. I).
President Harry S. Truman dropped many nuclear bombs on the Empire of Japan in 1995 to end World War II. This event caused many people to question whether they thought it is justified or if there were other things that could have been better. There are three reasons why I believe that what he did was right. Because it ended World War II quicker, to show Japan that it would have been easier to surrender, and the events that occurred during Pearl Harbor.
“Lewis estimates that the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, to the extent that it induced Japanese surrender, saved the lives of roughly 30 million people” (Dr. Daniel McIntosh). In the press release announcing the dropping of the atomic bomb Truman made a statement that would strongly support the dropping of the bomb. He states, “We have used it to shorten the agony of the war, in order to save the lives of thousands of young Americans.” World War 2 was an agonizing war that America helped. On Top of saving American lives, lives of all nationalities were saved with the end of the
Sunday December 7, 1941, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor in Hawaii with surprise bombings from waves of airplanes. The United States would later declare war with Japan then join World War II after Germany and Italy declared war on the U.S. The surprise attack in Hawaii would result in two of the worst bombings in history, in years to come. August 6, 1945, the world’s first nuclear bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan by the U.S. According to History.com in their article Bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the first bomb “Little Boy” was comprised of over 9,000 pounds of Uranium-235, and it took a modified B-29 bomber nick named “Enola Gay” to carry the bomb.
1.0 Introduction World War Two was a long and arduous war which saw the deaths of over fifty-four million people. It was between the Allied and Axis powers but as is often the case in wars, it took its toll on civilians. The American and Japanese were continuing their war well after the war in Europe ceased, and as a result they were running low on supplies and losing troops on both sides. This brought upon a weapon of mass destruction that was used by Harry Truman (the President of the United States at the time), to bring a swift end to the war against Japan. However this decision still has the public divided and debating over the ever timely question; was President Truman justified in his decision to drop the bomb?
However, it is also true that the bombs led to Japan’s surrender, saving countless lives that would have been lost in a land invasion or continued war. Critics may say that Truman’s decision was unnecessary, as Japan was already on the brink of surrender. However, this argument ignores the fact that Japan had not officially surrendered and there was a significant resistance within the Japanese military to surrender. It also fails to consider the potential consequences of a land invasion, which would have been devastating for both American and Japanese forces. In other words, Truman’s decision to drop the bombs was also criticized for its humanitarian consequences.
Atomic Bomb Argumentative Essay There had been many debates about whether the U.S. should or should not have dropped the atomic bombs on Japan. Well, in my opinion, I think that the U.S. should not have dropped the atomic bombs on Japan and there are two reasons why not. One reason why the U.S. should not have dropped the atomic bombs on Japan is because there were other alternatives of what they could’ve done. Another reason why the U.S. should not have dropped the atomic bombs on Japan is because the use of the atomic bombs was inhumane.
In 1945, President Truman had to make the most difficult decision of his life. Truman had to decide if the U.S. would drop an atomic bomb on Japan during WWII. He had a way to end the war with Japan, but doing so would unleash the most deadly weapon ever created. The U.S. was 4 years into the war with Japan.
Oh no! We have been bombed so we can’t cause any more danger of war for we have to surrender! Truman had made the right decision to drop the bombs on Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Many people know that WWII was a very rough, hard, and sad time. At some point it needed to be ended.
