The Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade

The African slave trade was very harsh for many reasons. This is because the idea of capture/sale was inhumane, blacks were kept in cages, conditions of ships were horrible, and one out of every three blacks died on the way over. By 1800, ten to fifteen million blacks had been transported as slaves to the Americas; while in Africa, fifty million human beings lives' were lost to death and slavery in those years. Blacks were easier to enslave than whites and Indians, but still were trouble to keep under thumb. These Afro-Americans rebelled by often running away and attempt to find family or sabotaging their work.

The Atlantic Slave Trade was the movement of Africans to the Americas as slaves. The slave trader, Captain Thomas Phillip in document B he says “ We endure twice the misery; and yet by their mortality our voyages are ruined. ”(Phillips). He is saying that they are dying and that it isn’t a good thing, but for a different reason. He also says “But what the smallpox spared, the flux swept off, to our great regret, after all our pains and care to give [the slaves] their messes,... keeping their lodgings as clean and sweet as possible…”(Phillips).

During the Triangular Trade, natural resources, goods, crops, and slaves were trade to the New World (Americas). Middle Passage was a stage of the Triangular Trade where millions of African slaves were shipped across the Atlantic Ocean to the Caribbean Islands (West Indies) and North and South America. The slaves weren’t treated fairly and in fact they were exploited. They were abused, whipped, and harmed by the Spaniards.

The African population decreased during slavery because the whites were taking them all to The New World. The slaves were captured when they were out of their village so if they were caught their families would not know unless they were captured as well. Today there are not many Africans here in america, most are in other countries. A major impact on Africa during slave trade was immense. A lot of slaves made it to the New World but a lot of them died on the way to the New World because of bad conditions.

Economic factors created an enormous market for African slaves. Slave traders found it very profitable to send slaves to the New World, where slaves were needed to work on the farms. Without laws in place to prevent this trade, slavery became crucial.

During the 18th century the slave trade prospered. Europeans manipulated Africans from the coast to attack nearby tribes and take captives (slaves). The slaves were exchanged for goods like guns and cloth. They were then shipped across the Atlantic in horrifying conditions. In spite of this the British forbidden the slave trade in 1807.

During the slave trade it was inhumane and violence, million of African people and children were taken away from their home to work in the new world. The slave trade took away many productive workers from Africa which they are skilled in farming and other establishment. The captain of the ship would try to enlarge their profit by trying to fit as many slaves as possible in the new world. Sometime slaves are captured and placed into dungeon with other captives. People would protests to be released but the two kings was corrupted and demanding

The Issue of Sources through This Brutal Time Over 12 million enslaved African women, men, and even children were compelled to migrate to the Americas from the early 16th to the late 19th centuries. Many of these slaves were bought and sold to European slave traders after the migration to the Americas. The Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade refers to the migration of slaves. The major problem is the problem of sourcing during that time period.

Before the Atlantic slave trade, there existed the Islamic slave trade in Africa. The majority of the merchants of Islamic religion and captured slaves which they then sold in ports surrounding the Indian Ocean and Arabia. After all this new connections between Europe and the Americas were founded expanding the slave trade to new regions of the world. Africans started to enslave their own people to sell at ports with foreigners that came from Europe and the Americas. In Africa Political leaders participated in the capture of slaves which led to civil wars and fights with in the countries.

The French forced millions of Africans across the Atlantic to the islands of the Caribbean. The Middle Passage was the stage of the triangular trade in which millions of Africans were shipped to the New World as a part of the Atlantic slave trade. It sent millions of Africans from West Africa to the West Indies. Many of them died from diseases and some of them died from starvation. The slaves were fed twice a day and some captains did not clean the hold (ship).

All the real European forces were included in this undertaking, yet by the mid eighteenth century, Britain turned into the world 's driving slave exchanging power. About sixteen century ago, an Atlantic slave trade began in Africa. The trade started in 1444 and ended 1589 between the region river Senegal and Sierra Leone. Slave ships carried Africans across the Atlantic in unsuitable conditions in which many of the slaves did not survive while others struggled to make it to their destination. By definition, slavery is the act of forcefully taking other people’s rights and freedom away from them. As a matter of fact, the Trans-Atlantic slavery describe the true definition of slavery.

The African slavery took place in the Atlantic World. It had major cause and effect on America’s slave trade. Some were positive and some were negative. The slaves changed the colonization for the Americans for a long time with the contribution of labor. In the New World, rising prices made the slave trade increasingly profitable.

Atlantic slave trade can be considered one of the most significant influences in the growth of the Atlantic system. In the West Indies and in the expansion of South America sugar plantations were very success; this was only possible because of the African slave labor. Even though it was cheaper to use natives or indentured servants from Europe, African slaves were seen as a better overall investment. With the mercantilist polices that Europe implemented it allowed for high profits and low competition. From the duration of 1500-1800, over 8 million African slaves took the voyage across the Atlantic.
