Thomas Fitzsimons was born In 1741, in Ireland (exact date and place unknown) and died August 26th, 1811 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Fitzsimons and his family traveled from Ireland to Philadelphia, in the mid 1750’s. In 1763 Thomas went into the trading business, with his new brother in law, George Meade. When Parliament reacted to the 1773 Boston Tea Party with punitive measures, which the Americans called the Coercive Acts, Fitzsimons felt that if British warships could close the port of Boston, no city in America was truly safe. These concerns forced Thomas into the patriotic cause and politics.

Till this day, the Boston Tea Party is considered to be one of the most powerful movements that helped lead up to a revolutionary war against Great Britain. Some people may view it as a time when colonist dumped tea into the Boston harbor. For others, it was a time that made America stronger than ever. The Tea Act caused huge amount of resistance in the colonies that eventually led to what we now know as the Boston Tea Party. The East India Company was planning on distributing the tea to shopkeepers in the colonies, avoiding any direct trade with American merchants who wanted to sell to the shopkeepers. This was causing many problems for Radical Patriots and merchants who were losing out on profits by the British authority. The Tea Act could have been considered an early attempt on a British monopoly of tea as stated by British general Frederick Haldimand of New York. The Tea Act and its policies “has introduced the mercantile part of the Inhabitants to be very industrious in opposing this Step and added Strength to a Spirit of Independence already too prevalent” (Chapter 7, pp. 156).

The purpose of these acts were, to punish the Americans after the events from the Boston Tea Party. The reason why they punished the Americans was to teach them a lesson after dumping the tea into the water. The Americans called the laws The Intolerable Acts. The so called Acts were, the Boston Port Act, Massachusetts Government Act, Quartering Act, and finally the Quebec Act.

Like how there were handbills posted around town talking about how the ships carrying tea would be docked and that they should use it as a chance to demonstrate so resistance. It tells about the meeting that was held to discuss how they were going to prevent the tea from landing.

To start off, the Boston tea party was one of the causes of the American Revolution But before we get into the Boston tea party, we have to know a few things about the French and Indian War. Basically Britain and France fight a war for control over North America from 1756 to 1763. Britain wins, however they went into a big amount of debt fighting in it. After the war, the government of the British decided that the American colonist had to help pay that debt.

There were many key events and people that led up to the American Revolution. Two of them being the The Boston Tea Party and the Boston Massacre. These events are very important to history because these were the first of many events that helped with the establishment of independence from Britain. The colonist left their country and sailed across the oceans in hopes of starting a new life in a new world. However, the British government didn't give them that opportunity by controlling them.

The Boston Tea Party was a violent, courageous, and an eventful act that took place in 1997 because of constant disputes. It started to become a large issue when the British and English colonist constantly disagreed about the unfair taxes that were charged from the British. The colonists didn’t agree to the taxes at all the the government officials formed a plan. The British put such a hefty tax on the tea because they realized the demand was so outrageously high, and they could make a much larger profit off of it. Colonists did not want to pay the huge taxes, so they started buying/smuggling tea from East India, but the British wanted to have the colonists to buy tea from them because of the taxes.
