On the evening of september, 1985 Kimberly Simon left her house,New York, to meet a school friend. The next day, officers found her body near the side of a road. She had been reped and srangle to death. Because of misidentification and improper forensic evidence, Steven Barnes was sentence to 25 years to life in prison. But later in 2009 they reopen the case and use new DNA technology to prove his innocence.

The result of this technique indicated that the victim was killed between October 9 and 13. Using three different techniques they obtained very similar data. The last piece to solve this puzzle was to identify the victim. They got a fingerprint from the victim but there was not a match in the database. They move on into the missing people report in which they found a woman name, Darlene Smith who matched all of their forensic evidence.

A middle-aged woman, by the name of Anna Garcia, was found dead inside her home at around 9:00AM. From the findings that we have gathered, I observed that there was a pattern. Things from DNA, crime scene information, to persons of interests. There was unknown DNA at the scene, such as the mystery blood. The crime scene information had many questioning things in it.

The article on CNN, “Police: Remains Found under a Bridge Likely Student Who Vanished in 1998”, starts off with explaining how Robert Kovack had gone missing in 1998 on his way to his parent house in West Virginia. Eighteen Years later there was a body found under the New River Grove Bridge. Turns out there was a wallet and identification confirming that the bones of the body was in fact Kovack. The case has now been reopened and tests are going to be done to figure out what was the cause of death.

In September of 1961, a woman from District of Columbia had an intruder break into her apartment. While the invader of the home was there, they had taken her wallet, and also raped the woman. During the investigation of the crime, the police had found some latent fingerprints in the apartment. The police then established and processed the prints. The prints were then connected back to 16 year old Morris A. Kent.

These murders have remained a mystery until modern day forensic scientists look back and may have been able to solve this crime easily today.

Chaos. Grief. Anger. As a nation we all remember a horrific time in our history that occurred over thirteen years ago. Though I was only five years old at the time, I remember the events of September 11, 2001 as if they happened yesterday.

A woman discovered the bodies of 2 young black men concealed in the vegetation alongside a road in 1979. These murders were the beginning of “Atlanta Child Murders”, which would total, nearly 20 young black males by 1981. These black young men had been strangled or suffocated (Trace evidence Wayne Williams (n.d.). 9/11: The Day That Changed America Forever On September 11, 2001, nineteen terrorists boarded four planes, all transcontinental flights full of jet fuel. 9/11 became the first of many hijackings in the United States. The terrorists turned two flights into flying weapons of destruction, knocking down America’s tallest buildings. Raymond matched the brain to the rock, he realized he had both the brain and the skull of an unknown ape-man, but the face was buried in solid rock that would take him 7 weeks to reveal. The two-million-year-old fossil, Taung, was a combination of an ape and a child. It was sad to hear that Taung had wandered and was eaten by an eagle from above, however, Taung was the missing link to Raymond’s discoveries. After further discovering a jawbone, they discovered the distinct smell of burning flesh which suggested that this came from a modern ape that was disguised to look ancient. This finding was surprising to me because I did not think that it was a known thing to fake evidence in the anthropology world.
