What would you do if your little sister suddenly became possessed? I finished the book Bad Girls Don’t Die by Katie Alender. The main character, Alexis (or Lexi), has recently seen changes in her little sister, Kasey. She has become weirdly obsessed with creepy dolls, she’s been talking in an old-fashioned language, and her eyes change from blue to green. When Lexi’s father gets in a car accident, Lexi has no doubt that Kasey’s other personality had something to do with it.

Alicia Wilson is and special education teacher that I have known for a year through subbing in the Parkway School District here in St. Louis, MO. She is the lead teacher for all of the staff that services special needs students at Shenandoah Elementary. Her duties not only include supervising those teachers but also leading IEP meeting and communicating plans for special needs children. Starting off my questions, Wilson described a stakeholder during an IEP meeting are the people that fill the room. This group includes the school administration, parents, the school board of education, teachers, and even the student themselves.

The market is saturated with memoirs written in prose. Alison Bechdel, however, puts a spin on the dysfunctional family memoir in her graphic novel Fun Home: A Family Tragicomic. By using the graphic novel narrative form, Bechdel tells the tale of her family tragedy through words and graphic images. Fun Home tells the story of young Alison’s life of dysfunction with a father who is a closeted gay man, a family that lives in isolation and her own struggle with anxiety and OCD. Many people have different opinions on life - some consider it a great gift meanwhile others consider it a suffering. George agreed with the latter option in the beginning of “The Greatest Gift” and It’s a Wonderful Life but learned throughout it that he was wrong and his life is worth living. Philip Van Doren Stern, the writer of the self-published short story: “The Greatest Gift”, went through a lot to get his piece published. He wrote a 4,100-word story - within the span of four years - and was then unable to find a publisher. Philip subsequently decided to send 200-twenty-one page booklets to his friends as a Christmas card, catching the attention of RKO Pictures producer David Hempstead.

“The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman displays verbal, situational, and dramatic irony. The story is rich in literary devices, which help the reader understand the overall irony of the story. The story is about a woman, who has no name, and she is placed in a mental hospital by her husband because she is not mentally stable. Interestingly, the story is written in the format of a journal entry, documenting her stay at the mental institution. The situational irony is that as much as John thinks he is curing his wife, he is actually making her worse.

Fahrenheit 451 has an astonishingly accurate future depiction of a society in which everyone is too distracted by technology, so they ignore most of the world around them. The community members are not aware of nature or other human beings, and they never take time to actually think deeply about life and ideas in general. Many high school and middle school teach this book in curriculums nationwide, because the addiction to technology and hatred of books portrayed in the book is beginning to be prevalent in our society. This book also glorifies individuality by admiring a girl who is different from everyone else. In the past, many parents have decided to challenge this book due to the violence, the religious discrimination, the foul language, and the references to drinking and smoking.

Poetry in literature is often marked significantly by a literary device or a special characteristic of the structure. In Robert Pack’s poem “An Echo Sonnet, To an Empty Page,” echoes throughout the poem create a tone of awe-solemn wonder, revealing the poet’s confused attitude towards the relationship between form and meaning and the inner conflict formed within oneself, dealing with the “voice” and the “echo.” A conversation then begins. The “echo” in this poem acts as the subconscious of the speaker, as opposed to a simple reproduction of the previous sounds. The speaker employs the “voice” as a confusing soul, who is deliberately seeking a response to its questions, and the “echo,” with its one word responses, provides the “voice”

Visual literacy is used in everyday life. By reading and analyzing images in books, magazines, T.V and short films, we are able to make sense and understand how these pictures relate to the writing associated with them. The Red Tree a book written and illustrated by talented Shan Tan uses a variety of different visual literacy techniques which then create a story valuable to teenagers in todays modern society. By creating a distinct series of images using composition, social value and the reaction provoked.

Romare Bearden’s painting The Family portrays a scene of a family who are in a negative situation. They are being visited by two unwelcome guest late at night this can be seen from the body language given by the father and mother as it implies that the topic is a negative one. The family is caught in a scene at the moment of the meeting going hostile. The family is painted with a somber tone with solid colors giving leaving the painting with a feeling of anticipation that something is going to happen. The Family gives a bleak view into a moment of a family being threatened which the colors and body language leave a lasting feeling of unease will the symbolism of the objects paint a picture of what happen before this moment.

Literary Analysis: The Giver Imagine a world where everything seems perfect but truly it is not as pleasant as it appears. In The Giver by Lois Lowry shows us a community in the future with no feelings at all. Jonas a twelve year old boy knows his life as it is and one evening he learns the truth about the community. Jonas set’s off into a adventure to change it all. Character,conflict,and symbolism makes the reader see thru the eyes of a twelve year old in a place of slavery disguised without anyone knowing it.

Picture book review: Stolen girl August 2015 ‘Stolen girl’ written by Trina Saffioti and illustrated by Norma MacDonald, is a touching, emotionally stirring picture book about the tourment a young aboriginal girl experiences when she was taken away from her mother, by the Australian government. The story takes place in a children’s home and is told with the use of small bursts of detailed paragraphs and intense, colourful and melancholy illustrations. Written for 8-10 year olds, the purpose of the book represents the experiences of children who were a part of the stolen generation in the 1900s-1970s. In this time period it was government policy in Australia that each indigenous Australian child was to be removed from their families as the
