Trio Scholarship essay Participating in a trio program has been a unique experience. One of the best experiences of my life, and I would never change for anything in the world, and I will never forget because it played an enormous part on the formation of the person writing this sentences. My experiences with a trio program have provided me with the right atmosphere and the right tools for self-improvement and growth. Being a part of a trio program is more than just attending to a summer camp, or a learning experience. It is an opportunity to evolve both academically and as individuals. Academically it opened it opened opportunities to improve my scholastic capability, through deliberation courses, sociology, social issues courses, leadership courses, and projects such as the capstone project. It even broadened my knowledge of nature with classes such as weird plants, epidemiology etc. On the other hand, I am fortunate to be in a trio program because it was a tremendous guide and support through the process of applying and visiting colleges. Whether it was guidance for financial aid, time management tips, college and scholarship information, or even helping us figure out how to fill out a college application, they were always there. Because of my participation on a Trio program, I was inspired in choosing Sociology as my major, and reinforced to continue to strive for my dream of one day becoming a Doctor and in a slightly different way, enriching people’s lives just like they have done for me. Growing up, my parents pushed me to do my best in school; I didn’t question it much, although looking back, I recognize that schooling is a vital component to be successful in life. I will be attending UNR this fall, the first in my family to do so. Being a first generation college student, my parents cannot provide any information regarding college classes, scholarships, or tutoring. I’ve worked diligently throughout high school but I cannot venture into college blind; TRiO would be a highly beneficial program enabling me to reach my potential in college.

Howard University, one of the top best HBCUs in the nation. Although it is an HBCU, historically black college or university, it is one of the best culturally diverse institutions in the world. With people coming to this college from many places such as: Asia, Africa, India and even many of the Caribbean islands. All with goals in mind, to receive one of the top educations in the nation, graduate, and succeed in life. Howard University has a lot to offer from a variety of majors, to many division 1 sports programs.
From 2011-2015, I went to New Tech High @ Coppell. NTH@C was a project based learning school or PBL. During those four years, NTH@C helps turn my weaknesses into my strengths. I was taught how to interact with others while in groups and was graded on how well I understood problems, oral communication, using problem-solving skills, interpersonal skills, and more.
Acting has always been more than just a passion for me. It is a powerful medium through which I aspire to inspire and make a positive impact on others' lives. The KB Delta Scholarship holds immense significance for me as it not only provides financial assistance but also recognizes the potential of aspiring young people to create change. When I received my acceptance letter from the School of Social Work, I was excited and had prepared myself for this higher learner program. I did not know what to expect, but I was determined to finish this program. I had made a choice to prioritize my life, so that my studies would not be affected and it was an effective measurement for me. There were days that giving up seemed easier, but my will and determination would not allow me to quit. In fact, I had surprised myself by achieving and maintaining a 3.0 GPA and currently two classes away from a minor in Sociology.
Over 32 schools watching your every single movement. Over 200 people watching whether or not you make a mistake and 5 judges grading you on precision and even creativity in some aspects. I would experience this almost every month during competition, but not until my 10th grade year. Right before high school my friend Oscar had convinced me to join JROTC and since I was planning on joining the service I thought it would be a good idea. The class had many after school teams such as rifle team, drill, and raiders.
I led twenty-two students during their first year of college to provide them success as students. I co-taught a class that focused on study skills, UNK resources, and involvement on campus. My ability to communicate and adapt to the diversity of the class was shown through creating different learning activities to employ in the classroom. I exemplified team work by collaborating with another instructor. Through my experience as a Peer Academic Leader, I was able to hold two counseling sessions with each student per semester to provide myself as a resource.
Being able to connect with the community and with my peers will be a valuable and unforgettable experience. Not only will I be able to learn from the community, but from my fellow peers, medical students, high school students, and other undergraduates as well. Getting to me mentored by people who have done what I want to do will be enriching, it’ll be an experience that ill cherish forever. Creating long lasting friendships with people who have similar interest.
In a society that embraces the advancement of scientific knowledge, my desire to contribute in the field of science is incredibly strong. Specifically, I am greatly interested in the micro-sciences, such as biochemistry and general chemistry. These academic programs focus on the building blocks of all living and nonliving material throughout the universe. This research offers me endless opportunities to make a positive difference.
Every freshman who enters a college campus next fall dreams of one thing: changing the world. Whether it be through ground-breaking research, amazing internships or access to accomplished alumni, every student wants to use their education to create change within their field and the world around them. And the Forty Acres Scholars Program does exactly that. By being a Forty Acres Scholar, I can grow, engage and ultimately change the world.
Additionally, I now see where I can make improvements in my writing to become a more refined college level writer and use what I learn here to help me with various degrees of my life outside of the classroom. For this portfolio, I revised the first essay we did in the class, the "Summary and Response" essay. Furthermore, this essay a mere five pages seems like it should have been so easy, but then it was most challenging.
It has impacted me in a great way in skills such as optimism, confidence, creativity, commitment in each assignment, among other benefits. I have used the activities I have learned in the program in other extracurricular activities such as after-school clubs. In the different outreach with the freshmen. While I was searching for the college I wanted to begin the next part of my life in, I decided I wanted to attend an HBCU that was in a large city. Not only does Howard University fulfill both of these, but Howard also has all of my passions and interests in and outside of the classroom. I am interested in pursuing a Sociology degree within The College of Arts and Sciences. I want to organize my studies with a focus around the black community and urban development. The required and elective courses such as Problems in the Black Community within Howard’s Sociology curriculum will allow me to shape my classes to do this.
