The narrator or speaker does this by explaining the setting of the Younger household, telling the audience which rooms are where and that they have lived in that space for many years. The time and place is also given which is the period after World War II in Chicago which may explain certain tones and language that the characters may use. For pathos appeals Carson uses emotions such as fear, alarming, and concerns. This appeal is strong for this argument because of the use of pesticides and chemicals. The audience can create a polluted and an unclean stream of land that is deeply contaminated. Carson uses this song as a concept to show the purpose and create such fearful emotions.

Dashner uses many literary devices to help portray his imaginative story, and paint a picture in the reader’s head. The characters are described in great detail and the reader can quickly imagine their personalities and appearance. The theme used is very basic but, is fully expressed throughout the book.

Imprisonment and constraint, can be felt in many different scenarios in the passage from Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. However, we get these two feelings with a girl who is portrayed as an orphan in this chapter. When being an orphan many feelings can run through a person’s mind, for example abandonment and not feeling loved, or being/feeling trapped. The feeling of imprisonment and constraint in this chapter is expressed through the use of imagery and diction. Imagery is viewed in this chapter in a variety of sentences.
