On March 22nd, I saw the musical Waitress, at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre in New York City, New York. With a book by Jessie Nelson and music by Grammy-nominated artist Sara Bareilles, Waitress is a funny, heartwarming and memorable show. Waitress centres on Jenna, a waitress who bakes creatively titled and tasting pies for the diner she works at. Jenna feels trapped in her marriage to her deadbeat abusive husband, Earl, played by William Pop, and winds up unexpectedly pregnant. When she hears that a nearby pie contest will be happening soon Jenna begins secretly saving for her entry fee and envisions a new life free of with her baby funded by the cash prize from the contest. During her pregnancy, Jenna begins an affair with her (also married) …show more content…
Jessie Mueller delivers the role of Jenna beautifully and accurately. Her southern accent is on point and as her pregnancy furthers throughout the course of the show, it’s hard to believe that there isn’t a real pregnant belly below her dress. Jenna’s co-workers at the diner, Dawn and Becky, portrayed by Caitlin Houlahan and Charity Angel Dawson, respectively have subplots that develop too. Dawn learns to come out of her shell and find love. Her arc is often the comedic relief as she and her eventual husband are quirky and overly dramatic. Houlahan who is the second woman to play Dawn, her predecessor being the talented Kimiko Glenn. Houlahan does an amazing job of making the audience laugh at her quirks but then sympathise with her loneliness presented early in the show. The set for Waitress is very innovative. Everything in the diner is on tracks so it can be switched out and moved on easily. The musicians are perched on a moving platform with the piano doubling up as a table to display Jenna’s pies. For Dr Pomatter’s office, an exam table and hallway to his office are wheeled on. For Jenna and Earls home there is a detailed living room complete with shelves of tchotchkes and 3 walls to fully simulate a living room. Overall, Waitress is very cute. There some good laughs and some serious, more heartful moments. The soft colours are aesthetically pleasing, and the songs catchy but not annoying. Jenna is the underdog

The carpet in that place is kind of like all of my elementary school’s carpets. The carpets there are colorful with red, purple well actually that’s pretty much it, I thought they were more colorful than that. Once you sit down the waiter asks you what you want to drink of
In this review of West Side Story, critic Trish Causey is comparing the old version of the Broadway play, to the new version. The critic had a personal relationship wit the play mainly because she played a “Jet Girl” during the early production of the play. Causey expressed that she was pleased with the dancers training. I think this is very important in a live production because it make the play look more professional as a whole. Causey has a lot more negative things to say about the play, rather than positive things to say.

In the "Night Waitress by Lynda Hull, the narrator has a lot of concern about her life that she expresses by describing her night at work and the people she encounters while she is there at work. She explores feelings about her appearance, her desires, and her loneliness. The speaker daydreams her way through another monotonous working shift, which reflects on her lower-caste and a disgrace to her employment. Hull analyzes the waitress' performance as disheartening which leads to her desire in a relationship and a materialistic world in which she gets delighted.
She explains that she had grown to look like her father more than her mother. She explains that Phillip Roberts was as important as her father and that Philips also has land that he owns. She also explains that Martha Roberts, another of her family members, was known for her very dark complexion and her gray eyes. She also explains about Miss Jewel, who is her grandmother, who wears her best blouse to help bring Hortense to her father’s cousin home. She explains that she was watching the hen laying the egg, and Michael was looking for her, and he wanted to also see the hen laying the egg.
The kitchen scene is unique and usually makes the biggest impression on the audience due to its uncanny and inventive audience experience. In this act the girl becomes a desired ingredient for the three cannibalistic cooks and after much comedic violence

The tables have a long gray, flowing tablecloths to make the scene look fabulous. I notice that each table contains a woven, wooden basket full of thick breadsticks, bentwood chairs. The shape of the chair curves into a heart in the middle, which brings elegance to the room. The windows and the tablecloths have a repetition of vertical lines; I can see curving lines on the chair backs. There is a chandelier in the middle hang from the ceiling and eight lighted candles on it.
It is open during lunch and dinner hours. Inside, there are many tables that sit around the restaurant and are covered in white tablecloth and has flowers placed in a clear vase. The walls are bright coloured that create a vibrant mood as people enjoy their meals with an almost inaudible music.
Lisa is a smart mouth and crazy. She was my favorite character out the movie because she the only sociopath introduced in the movie. A sociopath is with a personality disorder that advances. She proved to be a sociopath because she would lie manipulate, hurt others, not very organized and she was very charming towards Susanna. Lisa was product of her environment.
