What Changes Occurred During The Gilded Age

The Gilded Age, created a big impact with the use of technology, it affect the people and the environment of that time period. Many things helped contribute to this affect, like the Bessemer Process, railroads, oil, and light. The Bessemer process help make steel at much faster rate; therefore it helped make railroads and skyscrapers for the future. Andrew Carnegie, one of the richest men at the time, helped with the steel industry and production. He was the man who made the steel industry grow and make it built things that we thought weren't even imaginable during that period.

The 1870s, 1880s, and the 1890s were apart of the Gilded Age because it was a time of major technological innovation and a rise in foreign trade for the U.S. It was also a time when businesses expanded not only in each area of the manufacturing process but in the number of buildings as well. One key economic feature of the Gilded Age was railroad tracks because they played an important role in the transportation of manufactured goods and allowed those products to reach places they have never been before. The work shows the cultural, social, political and economical elements of the age that aided in forming the America we have today. Edwards’s purpose in writing New Spirits is to offer readers new insights on the era by eliminating predetermined stereotypes one may have established before reading the work. Edwards wants readers to put aside their prior knowledge to understand just what it was like to live in the Gilded Age by providing readers with the consequences and achievements of people during the time.

The time after Civil War and at the end of the Reconstruction was known as the gilded age. The years included 1878-1889. “The Gilded Age” is a term that was created by Mark Twain in 1873. The term refers to how the country is not in very good shape yet it is known as a very wealthy time. There were seven presidents during this time; Ulysses S. Grant, Rutherford B. Hayes, James Garfield, Chester A. Arthur, Grover Cleveland, Benjamin Harrison, and William McKinley.

The Gilded Age was the period from the end of the Civil War to the beginning of the twentieth century. This was an era noted for the widening social and economic gap between the powerful and the powerless. Political life during the Gilded Age was shaped by three main factors: the balance of power between Democrats and Republicans, the high level of public participation in everyday politics, and the often corrupt alliance between business and political leaders at all levels of government. The growing conflicts between city and country, industry and agriculture was the most important political issue. Financially distressed farmers felt ignored by the political process.

The Gilded Age started as the reconstruction era in the United States, which meant the rebuilding of a broken nation. This was a time when a white supremacist view was the only right way to see the economic, political and social standpoints in the country. It later was labeled as the Gilded Age because there were so many issues that had to be covered up and could not be fixed. The term gilded means to cover with thin gold leaf, which is pretty much what they tried to do. During this time there was a rapid expansion of industrial growth, railroads began to become of high interest, and the wages in the north started rising.

The Gilded Age's political, social, and economic types resulted in a rise in populist changes in the United States in the late nineteenth century. The uneven distribution of wealth and the exploitation of labor were two major factors in populist reform throughout this period. By pushing economic and political changes that would improve the working class and shift income from the wealthy elite to the general community, the populist movement wanted to address these problems.   The United States had a period of fast economic growth during the Gilded Age, which extended from the 1870s through the 1890s. But because of the uneven distribution of this increase, the great majority of people did not greatly profit from it.

The Gilded Age was the period in America between the 1870 through 1900. The term Gilded comes from a book written by Mark Twain. Twain thought of the word Gilded to be described as “glittering on the surface but often corrupt and economically unbalanced underneath”. No other words could be used better to describe the Gilded Age. The rich and the poor were well separated and the government was extremely corrupt.

This rapid increase in technological advancements helped American industrialism flourish, and even replaced Britain as head of industrialization. This Revolution was also known as the “Gilded Age.”

Mark Twain, one of the most memorable American writers of the 19th century, coined the term “The Gilded Age” to describe the period from 1870 to 1900. This term was derived from the deceiving facade this era wore—the glamorous, glistening surface. This mask was only a thin layer, coating the various shades of corruption pervading beneath.11 The tranquil beauty of fine arts provided an outlet for people to escape from the suffocating grandiose nature of a tainted society ruined by the age of monopolies and corruption. During the momentous Gilded Age, a time period of rapid economic growth which generated vast wealth, new products and technologies were created that improved middle-class quality of life.

Following the Civil War the United States experienced a time of drastic change that molded the country into a true world power. While the South experienced reconstruction; industry in the North was converted to peacetime purposes. As a result industry became more prominent than ever before in an almost completely agriculture driven nation(The Gilded Age). Accordingly. the United States entered a new era known as the “Gilded Age” in which the American economy, cities, and population grew at an astonishing rate.

Johnson County, nestled between the Arkansas River and the foothills of the Ozark Mountains in Northwest Arkansas, is a quiet and sparsely populated region known largely for its scenic vistas and peaches. However, the county has a history of violence and hardship. Clarksville, the county seat of Johnson County, is a sleepy and peaceful city, best known for the annual Peach Festival. But, in the 1870s the city was known nationally as “Bloody Clarksville” because of the numerous outlaws, gunfights, and hangings.

The impact it had on the gilded age was the number of jobs it provided to the fresh-in immigrants. Vanderbilt knew that he could hire immigrants and they would work for not that much money and with these new railroads america will be shrunk for easier expansion of the immigrants.
