In the book of His Excellency: George Washington by Joseph J. Ellis, the author introduces Washington, the Father of the United States, in a fresh portrait focused on the characters of Washington. This book is an impressive biography of Washington's remarkable dedication to the United States history. According to the author, George Washington is an omnipresent figure as he was growing up, described as the man in the moon who was aloof and silent. This book focuses on Washington's wartime service which became some of his major contributions to the United States, rather than merely telling the true story of Washington, its main thesis is focusing on analyzing his contributions and how his governorship had affected the American history. Washington's life is divided into three areas in this book.

Benedict Arnold (1741-1801) is most well known for being traitor in the revolutionary war . He got to the rank of general in the Continental, won many many battles on the american side, and played a role in the capturing of the British garrison at West Point. He grew angry for lack of credit and respect. He also married Peggy Shippen, a British sympathizer. Arnold was commanded to protect West Point, and he made a plan.

There are many famous Americans that helped America win the Revolutionary War. Benedict Arnold however, did not and tried to aid the British to victory. Benedict Arnold was born on January 14, 1741 in Norwich, Connecticut. Arnold’s father was a successful businessman who wanted his son to be well-educated and successful as well. After three of Benedict’s siblings died, his father fell into an alcohol fueled depression.

The Continental Army was a major activist group,wanting to change the ways of the British Army for many reasons but mainly for taxing the civilians without consulting the local governing bodies of the colonies. To solve this issue the Continental Army was formed on June 14th, 1775 to fight against the British forces and Benedict Arnold was one of the Continental Army’s most important leaders who provided soldiers hope and passion into achieving a new nation. Benedict Arnold played a major part for the colonists but he is also one of America’s most infamous traitors, who joined the British in an attempt to get money and a high military ranking in exchange for the plans to west point. He and Major Jon Andre would meet up in a discreet place to trade the plans but they got caught in

The town of Yorktown was founded in 1691 and is mostly known for the battle that occurred on the lands. On September 28, the battle of yorktown takes place in Virginia. George Washington and General Nathanael Greene were in command of the American Force and the British were led by General Charles Cornwallis. One of many significant battles in the revolutionary War, however this one ended the war. The Americans and French were able to surround the British.

Many Americans grew upset with the Confederation government. So Alexander Hamilton a lawyer and General’s Aid to George Washington decided to change the Articles of the Confederation. He called on the National Convention to overhaul the document. He requested that Congress call upon all of the states to attend a gathering in Philadelphia. George Washington was the first to arrive in Philadelphia giving the large amounts of creditability for the meeting bringing 55 men from all of the states.

In the starting years of the war, the British generally won most battles due to their far superior sea power. After the invasion of Canada, the American colonist rebellion invasions and attacks continued. Battles after battles were being fought and everywhere the anger and the revenge taking nature was visible in both the colonists and the British officials’ eyes. The next 2 battles occurred in Trenton and Princeton of New Jersey. The Battle of Trenton occurred 26 December 1776.

John Marshall had a significant impact on strengthening the national government during his term as Chief Justice from 1800-1830. Marshall achieved this goal by strengthening the power of the Supreme Court in three main court cases. In Marbury v. Madison Marshall established the practice of judicial review, then in McCulloch v. Maryland he weakened the central government and Gibbons v. Ogden provided the federal government with the ability to regulate interstate commerce. Marbury v. Madison (1803) was a court case that began the practice of judicial review. This case started because the night before President John Adams term ended, he appointed 42 justices of the peace.

Benedict Arnold, a hero turned infamous traitor, was a soldier that grew up in Norwich, Connecticut and is most known for betraying the American forces fighting the British in the Revolutionary War for independence. Benedict Arnold was born on January 14, 1741 to Hannah Waterman King and Arnold’s father (US History). His mother was very wealthy before having met Benedict Arnold’s father (US History). He was one of the few children of his mother not to pass away to yellow fever. His father was not a very good business and lost the fortune that his mother had before marrying.

The campaign for the Constitution was a long one and during it Hamilton, along with John Jay and James Madison, took up the pseudonym “Publius” and wrote essays to newspapers across the nation, encouraging the public to vote in favor of ratifying the Constitution. In all, there were eighty-five essays that came to be known as “The Federalist Papers.” John Jay wrote two, Madison wrote thirty-two, and Hamilton wrote all of the remaining fifty-one. The most well known essay of the collection was Federalist No. 84, written by Hamilton, which first proposed the addition of the Bill of Rights to the Constitution in ensure the rights of the states were honored (Foner Web; Witten Web; Hamilton Print). After the Constitution was ratified in 1787 and George Washington was elected as President in 1789, Hamilton was appointed as his Secretary of the Treasury, making him the first to hold the position.

Susan B. Anthony was born into a Quaker family, with the hope that everyone would one day be treated equal. She denied a chance to speak at a temperance convention because she was a woman(Susan B. Anthony). From this point on, she knew that she needed to make a change. Susan B. Anthony, because of her intense work involving women 's’ rights, highly influenced all of the societies and beliefs that were yet to come. She employed a huge role in our history because of the fact that she advocated for women’s rights, for the integration of women in the workforce, and for the abolition of slavery.

In 1777- 1778 The Revolutionary War was at it’s peak. George Washington decided to camp at Valley Forge, Pennsylvania with the British and General Howe near by in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. But troubles were yet to come because Winter has just begun. If I were at Valley Forge would I have quit or Re- Enlisted.

In the harsh, dreaded winter at Valley Forge, your enlistment has finally retired. But now there is a decision to be made. Will I stay and be loyal to the Continental Army. Or will I abandon and never look back at the Continental Army.

Through December 1777 to June 1778, George Washington led the Continental Army through winter camp. The Continental Army was an army of Patriot soldiers who fought against Britain. The Patriots hated Britain for their taxes and laws. So they went off to war. There was just one problem, they did not know how bad the conditions were going to be.

Until the Civil war, she never stopped working for the American Anti-Slavery Society. But then she was more focused on pursuing women's rights. She started claiming the rights of both sexes and she established with her friend Stanton the American Equal Rights Association. In 1863 both Susan Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton established the Women's Loyal National League to demand some constitution amendments in the United States. It was the first American Women’s organization for anti-slavery movement as it was the only political tool for women at that time.
