Why Did Benedict Arnold Win The Revolutionary War

Benedict Arnold (1741-1801) is most well known for being traitor in the revolutionary war . He got to the rank of general in the Continental, won many many battles on the american side, and played a role in the capturing of the British garrison at West Point. He grew angry for lack of credit and respect. He also married Peggy Shippen, a British sympathizer. Arnold was commanded to protect West Point, and he made a plan.

On January 14, 1741, Benedict Arnold was born in Norwich, Connecticut. Benedict and his sister were the only two of five Arnold children to survive. The other three died from yellow fever. The Arnold family was reasonably wealthy throughout the beginning portion of Benedict’s life, but poor financial decisions put the family into debt. Benedict’s father became a heavy drinker and he was forced to drop out of school at the age of 15. After dropping out of school in Connecticut, Benedict joined the Connecticut militia and fought in the French and Indian War.

The letter that Arnold sent to Shippen was very similar to the one that he sent to Betsy Debois, which means he did not think much of Shippen in the first place because it was sent to Debois only a few months before. Looking back on his childhood when his family was wealthy and then was taken away because of some poor financial decisions, it also played a role on the future and powerful Benedict Arnold. Samuel Adams held such an important part in gaining independence for America, but he was the most underappreciated. Many people seem to overlook Adams because he didn't leave many primary sources behind like a journal, notes, or letters etc.. Adams studied journalism at Harvard, and went on to pursue this by defending colonists against royal authorities who overstepped their boundaries. Then from 1764, when the Stamp act arose, he had one main focus- to fight for American Independence. In the 1760’s and 1770’s Adams fought against the British for the American colonists.

However, his tenure was short-lived as, after word traveled that the French, and their native allies, had won a substantial victory by successfully besieging the beleaguered British troops at Fort William Henry in upstate New York, Arnold’s company was forced to turn around and was disbanded after just a few weeks. Arnold then became a prominent businessman and eventually established a profitable Caribbean trade network, where his wealth began to grow exponentially. However, several British acts, including the notorious Sugar and Stamp Acts, of 1764 and 1765, respectively, pushed him into ruin, by some estimates 16000 pounds, or 3 million dollars today, into debt. Arnold then become a member of the secret organization known as the Sons of Liberty in order to openly contest British authority.

General George Washington had a major impact in the American Revolution. Washington was one of the main generals in the war. He knew that the only way to get rid of the British was to fight them. He made the colonists fight, by giving them reasons like freedom, no taxes, and no more control, etc. Sadly Washington 's troops were poorly trained, and lacked food and supplies, but his motivation kept them going.

So how was a major figure in the American Revolution? Well, in the events that led to the Revolution he took a major stance, most famously in his criticism of George III after the Stamp Act got approved.   He opposed the prices forced by the Townshend Acts and the British attempt to collect them by using the Royal Navy

Through December 1777 to June 1778, George Washington led the Continental Army through winter camp. The Continental Army was an army of Patriot soldiers who fought against Britain. The Patriots hated Britain for their taxes and laws. So they went off to war. There was just one problem, they did not know how bad the conditions were going to be.

The United States won its independence for Great Britain during the Revolutionary War. America struggled to get the advantage, but eventually was able to win the war. In the beginning it proved difficult to even acquire the troops necessary to fight a war. The troops they got had no adeptness for fighting. They struggled throughout the war and at times their chances for success looked bleak.

The American Revolution was a successful revolt of the colonies and their mother country in a fight for their independence. It was successful, because the new independent country known as the United States of America was formed, and can still be seen today. However, the revolution goes very in depth on how it happened. The revolution was a very tough and long war between Great Britain, the mother country, and their colonies. This war led the colonies to gain their independence from Great Britain and form, what we know today as the United States of America.
