Why is it important for people to stand up for what they believe in?
Martin Luther King Jr. once said, “ Our lives being to end the day we become silent about the things that matter.” Our beliefs and values are essential to the people that we are today, so we need to defend them and not be ashamed. Defending what you think is right will make you feel better because you’re not scared to speak about your beliefs. People should stand up for themselves because it helps build confidence and may influence someone's views. When people stand up for what they believe in it helps build their confidence. Billy then showed them the video of their son and they were embarrassed and shocked by their actions because they were taking their son's dream away and were too blind to realize how amazing he really was. Their son later received a full scholarship to play at a university and began aspiring to become a professional soccer player. Billy stood up and believed in his friend Carlos and he was determined to change his friend's parents’ perception about their son playing. It cannot be denied that one the most important aspects of life and it’s intricacies is the power of communication. Whether it be verbal or nonverbal, soft as a petal or harsh as a roaring rapid, communication is what allows humans to understand the complexities of each other. There seem to be thousands of techniques individuals integrate into their conversation to make it as meaningful and intelligent as possible, three of those being certain appeals-- Pathos; the appeal which motivates the audience to feel a certain emotion, in order to gain their approval. Ethos; the appeal which gives the audience trust and sense of reliability in the speaker, and finally Logos; which appeals to the serious, rational members in the audience--

“Stand up for what is right, even if you are standing alone” is a quote by Suzy Kassen. This is a major theme in the book To Kill a Mockingbird. Many people in life find it extremely hard to stand up for what is right because they may be going against peers and family. For a person, it takes great courage to do this but it gives them a sense that they are doing the right thing. The author, Harper Lee, disseminates the importance of standing up for yourself and what is right in many different ways.

William Murtagh, first keeper of the National Register of Historic Places, once said “at its best, preservation engages the past in a conversation with the present over a mutual concern for the future.” Preservation has always been a part of human nature, deeply rooted in our tradition and moral code. There is a profuse amount of ways in which society preserves, some are for selfish reasons but others help us move forward and learn from our past. As the great human race, it can be said that preservation has been our main reason for being the most successful species on the planet. Sigmond Freud was an Austrian neurologist who stated that one of the “deepest essences of human nature” is that of self-preservation.
The fact that one has the right to say and believe is the foundation for democracy to function. If no one dared to say their opinions, then it had become a dictatorship where only one opinion on how society and the country should work had been the “right”. If people dared to express their opinions, they will help improving the society one lives. Freedom of speech gives one the responsibility to consider what fits into different contexts, and it will make us better persons and people. Simply, people will feel safe in the society they live in.
One of these examples is, after he is kicked out of school he still continues to learn from books in the library. This shows that he will not give up on his education. Furthermore, when William is building his windmill people in the village think he is crazy, and they mock him constantly. But he does not let that stop him, he just uses it as fuel to keep going. On the other hand, sometimes William needed help to find the resolve to keep going.
As a kid, my parents always taught me to stand up for myself and others. Basically they told me I always need to kindly put someone in their place. Whether I was part of the problem or not. As quoted, “If you see or hear something you don’t think is kind, saying nothing is just as bad as partaking. Don’t be afraid to stand up for someone in the same way you hope someone would stand up for you.
People say that standing up for someone is pointless and those people have nobody on their side to stand up for them. Standing up for someone is good for many reasons and not just in school in the outside world and, you never know that person you just helped may be your bestfriend or girlfriend in the future. “Standing up for what is right even if you are the only one” is good because you want to believe in yourself no matter what you do just stay positive with yourself. Some people don 't even know where to start for standing up for someone and they should start with themselves.
