Causes of WWI and WWII
Both World War I (WWI) and World War II (WWII) were caused by numerous factors, but there are certain key elements to each conflict that can be identified as major causes for their outbreak. WWI was sparked by an assassination; Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria-Hungary was killed by Gavrilo Princip while he was visiting Sarajevo in 1914.
