Academic Bowl Greetings! I am Priscilla Pires, a seventh grader at the Brackman Middle School. I am aiming to earn a spot on the Academic Bowl team this year, and I appreciate you taking your time to read and interpret my essay. One reason why I would like to be on this team is because I want to push myself further this year. I want to really test out my knowledge, and to learn more. I believe I am capable of being a mediocre member, as I was in Academic Bowl in fifth grade. I didn’t try out last year, because I didn’t have hope that I could make it. This year, I just want a clean slate, and to really be successful. Another reason why I want to be in the Academic Bowl this year is because I want to represent Barnegat, and be proud of who …show more content…
That year I had only gotten one B, and the rest were all straight A’s. This year, I am in algebra and Level One ILA as well. My stronger point in my whole knowledge is my math skills and my memory. I can memorize countless information, in fact, in fifth grade I made an Academic Bowl Quizlet which had over 150 terms! I studied every day, and I had recently tested myself on it and got a 76% overall, which I was impressed of remembering. I hope this can show you that I am above the average level and can be an important part of this team. This is my year of change. I want to motivate others to represent our town and be proud of it. Academic Bowl meant so much to me back then, and it still does now. I still regret my decision to not try, because if I put in the effort, I could have became someone new. Someone better. Being on this team, this family, will make me feel good about myself, it will press on me to persevere and to carry on. It will push me, to test my knowledge, to really help me advance. Even though I may not make it, an attempt is worth it. Knowing that I tried, that I did something in an effort, it truly comforts me. At the end of the day, I’d greatly admire a spot on the Academic Bowl Team, since my capabilities are (in my opinion) on par. Thank you so very much for taking your time to read this, and I will be happy no matter what your decision is for
I am proud of this accomplishment and enjoy playing this role on my team very much. Within my two high school years I have found that I have a high work ethic and enthusiasm in my work. I am proud at where I stand in my classes with the high grades that I achieve. I have a 4.0 GPA and a clean disciplinary record.
The Dixie Cup is might be one of the nicer memories we have of early school days or birthday parties when liquid refreshments were served in the small, disposable paper cup. Convenient, and sanitary, the Dixie Cup was invented by Lawrence Luellen, who saw the need for individual drinking cups to help arrest the spread of germs. Luellen's idea, along with a savvy marketing strategy, saw the Dixie Cup become one of the 20th centuries most timely and commercially successful inventions. While Luellen's idea of a disposable cup was still in the planning in 1907, the public was quenching their thirst at available community fixtures: wells, public water barrels, and pumps. However, only one vessel such as a tin dipper or cup was at their disposal
Part I: The history behind the great American sport, football, is a very important subject to me as I have played the game since I was eight. As I continued playing while getting older, leagues got more competitive and injury seemed to be more prone to some than most. I can’t even recall the amount of times the game has been stopped due to someone getting the wind knocked out of them, head-to-head collisions, sometimes even broken bones. The slide about rules evolution within the College Football realm resonated with me due to the fact that during this time football was being played, people were dying from injuries and the numbers of deaths were only rising. In 1905, eighteen players died and in 1908, that number increased to thirty-three.
Tough Hope Imagine you want to make a team but you didn 't make it well that happened to me. This is the time I went through tough hope. After I didn 't make the team I practiced really hard to make the team next year.
This idea has been one of my biggest focuses throughout all of my education. I have striven to achieve and succeeded in maintaining all A’s for the duration of my educational career. In addition to that, I have pursued complete knowledge and understanding of the subjects that I am in. I have studied college level material for several of my classes as well as Science Olympiad. Not only was I studying for myself, I was studying for my team.
I unfortunately choked up and didn’t make it on that team. Instead of giving up I choose to keep practicing. I decided to join another team outside of school to improve my skills. My new goal was to make it to my high school cheer team. My new team taught me team skills and with that we were able to win many competitions.
Colorguard or winterguard is a sport of the arts that can be performed by all genders, and of all ages. It is a performance based activity that utilizes dance movements, hand-eye coordination, technique, and talent. Despite being ostracized sometimes by the ignorant people at school, colorguard has shaped me into a better person through keeping me active and in shape, giving me amazing best friends, and teaching me discipline. Color guard is a strenuous activity that involves a lot of cardio such as running and dancing with flags, sabres, and rifles. Because of colorguard, I was able to exercise to my full capacity even to the point of feeling like passing out.
Six years of pee wee, four years of travel, roughly 10,000 dollars of my parents hard earned money spent in payments, numerous nights of practice, countless days consumed by games and I did not make the team. An entire summer of early mornings dedicated to workouts, and I did not make the team. My freshman year I tried out for the Brentwood High School soccer team and didn’t make the cut. I will never forgot waiting anxiously for that email, opening it and not seeing my name on that roster. I was devastated, embarrassed and simply sad.
I would first like to thank the selection committee of the Van Buren Athletics Booster Scholarship for considering my application for this prestigious award. I am very proud of my accomplishments throughout high school. I earned my first varsity letter as a freshman on the Girls Golf Team. Since then, I have earned three subsequent letters and various other accolades. I received NWOGGL Rookie of the Year, which was based on my individual scores and a vote from the coaches in the league.
Since I had excellent grades last year, I had received high honor rolls throughout the year. I believe that I will get high grades this year also.
I was honored to be voted by them as team captain for this year. Although, we did not have any of the team compete in our state competition, we as a team did better than teams of the past in my opinion. We all improved
Chucking balls down a lane at pins sounds like fun right? Well it is it's called bowling. It has been a fun game played by many generations of people. Bowling had a legacy of fun, popularity and has a lot of things to know about it, but it is starting to lose its value. Bowling is a leisurely sport where you roll a ball down a lane and try to knock down all ten pins.

Receiving all A’s and B’s while so much of my time is dedicated to basketball shows my strong devotion to scholastic achievement. Throughout my high school career, I have been an active member of the Dean’s List appearing on it every quarter and semester so far. My high school is highly competitive and I’m grateful that I was surrounded by such wonderful peers and teachers. Completing high school, I received 12th place out of almost 450 students, with a weighted GPA of 4.244. Despite my hard course load,
