“Adnan spoke to some girl in Silver Spring.” Her name was Nisha. It was that girl Adnan had been flirting with. And Adnan briefly put Jay on the phone with her. And the reason this is so important is for two reasons. One, it’s the only call in this stretch of time that’s to someone Adnan knew, rather than a friend of Jay’s. And, it puts Jay and Adnan together in the middle of the afternoon, when Adnan says he was not with Jay, he was back at school. In the March 18 itinerary, there’s a note about the Nisha call. That Adnan handed the phone to Jay at the golf course on West Forest Park Avenue.(Episode 5; route talk). The Nisha call was only for Adnan which means Adnan only knew Nisha because he was flirting with her. Jay doesn’t know Nisha and apparently Nisha is another witness who recall that Adnan had killed Hae Lee. Nisha Call happens at 3:32pm. Smack in the middle of the afternoon. The prosecution makes much of this call at closing, and I can see why.(Ep.6). Furthermore, this shows witnesses claiming to hear about the same thing about Adnan Syed. Nisha was just a girl who only knew Adnan and when she called the detectives they knew it was true because she didn’t know
Undisclosed and Serial, two podcasts, have made Adnan Syed’s case a public phenomenon. This case originated on January 13th, 1999. Hae Min Lee, a senior at Woodlawn High School, was found murdered and buried in Leakin Park about a month later. Adnan and Hae dated and had broken up shortly before the incident took place. This makes Adnan a main suspect in the investigation of her disappearance and murder.
How many judicial cases are overturned because of bad evidence? Producer Sarah Koenig tells us about the 1999 murder of Hae Min Lee, an 18-year-old high school student from Baltimore county, Maryland. Her body was found six weeks later in a shallow grave in a local park. Her ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed was convicted of her murder the following year on what many consider thin evidence and is now serving a life sentence in prison. Adnan Syed should not have been convicted for the murder of Hae Min Lee.
Jay then had stated in his second testimony that he dropped off Adnan back at school at 12:30 after shopping with him at the mall where Adnan supposedly said that he would kill Hae. After dropping him off they met up at Best Buy where Jay saw Hae dead in the trunk. Jay also stated in another testimony that they met at Edmondson Avenue and then in another testimony, it was at a strip
Lastly, a testimony from Asia McClain claims that she spoke to Adnan at the library 2:15 on January 13th. There might be a few reasons to hint to his guilt, but the evidence of his innocence outshines that greatly. First
Everyone that knew Adnan told Sarah Koenig that he was not the type of guy to hurt anyone, he was seen as the “golden child” and people could not possibly believe that he was capable any wrongdoing. Moreover, the young couple had many secrets which probably caused tension between them. A few days before Hae Min Lee’s disappearance Adnan purchased a cell phone. This cell phone would play a big part in this mystery because the evidence used from this phone is not
This made the police, and including Koenig to be suspicious of Jay, thinking this might be a lie. Adnan is innocent because of Jay’s inconsistency with the cell records and the cell towers. There were several parts in Jay’s story that he changed in his second testimony which led to many inconsistencies.” Adnan’s was the first case to use a Cell Tower Pinging Technology, which Jay’s story doesn’t corroborate with the times”(Serial Episode 4). This means that Jay was making a story up to try and convict Adnan
“Baltimore man exonerated on murder charge, freed from prison after 13 years,” this is a headline I saw while scrolling through Facebook from the Washington Post. Locked up in a prison for a crime they did not commit is the unfortunate reality thousands of people face due to the flawed justice system. Adnan Syed’s case is not a rare one, there was not any concrete evidence leading him as the murderer of Hae Min Lee. The reason he was arrested was solely that of one person’s testimony. The prosecutors painted Adnan as an extremely devout Muslim and used his religion against him.
(Koenig) As we learn about Adnan’s character, we can infer that Adnan is
Koenig also saw this first hand when she started calling Adnan at the prison and started speaking to him herself. Adnan has kept his innocence throughout everything he has been through with being convicted of killing Hae Lee. He can also tell if someone is trying to hurt him or help him with proving his innocence and that is why he fired his first attorney, Christina Gutierrez. When Adnan was asked by Christina if he wanted to testify or remain silent he said he would remain silent but that is not what he wanted to do (Episode 9). He told Sarah that he wanted to testify but that his attorney advised against it (Episode 9).
Prosecutor Kevin Urick asks Nisha about when the phone call was placed, and she replies “I would think towards the evening, but I can’t be sure.” This isn’t good enough to place Adnan with Jay at 3:32 PM. So, Prosecutor Urick specifically asks Nisha if “the 3:32 call on the log, could it be that same call…?” Nisha says “It could be, but I’m not sure.” Prosecution
Adnan is Innocent Do you remember what you did on this day, exactly one week ago? You might remember some things about that day, or you might remember nothing. How about if I asked what you did 6 weeks ago on this day? Could you tell me?
January 13th, 1999 a 17-year-old girl named Hae is manually strangled, to death. Six weeks later Hae’s ex-boyfriend, Adnan Syed, is convinced of the murder. He is given a life sentence, plus thirty years, for his crime. Jay was the main witness at the trial. His story is as follows.
A phone call to one of Adnan’s friends, Nisha, was detrimental to Adnan’s case. Nisha was a friend of Adnan Syed’s that did not know Jay Wilds. According to Adnan, Jay had the cell phone, which would be used later in Adnan’s case, at the time of the Nisha call. At this time, Adnan claimed that he was at school. People claim that this call puts Adnan and Jay together at 3:37 P.M., which undermines Adnan’s alibi (Koenig, “The Case Against Adnan Syed”).
What would you do if you were accused of a murder you didn't commit and everyone was listening in to see the results of your trial like you were the next OJ Simpson .The story of Serial narrated by Sarah Koenig is about the murder of Hae Min Lee and the evidence leading to the trial of Adnan Syed. Adnan Syed is the person convicted of the murder of Hae Min Lee. Jay Wilds ia a witness that had testified to having helped bury Hae. This story is interesting because it talk about all of the evidence and how they came to the conclusion of Adnan being guilty and how he tried to prove he was innocent. I believe that Adnan Syed is not Guilty of the murder of Hae Min Lee because Adnan was at track practice at the time of murder,Jay’s story kept changing
This proves that Adnan was the one who killed her. Jay and Adnan both committed a serious crime. Adnan killed Hae with the help from
