Anne was a member of the Puritan community which frowned on literature of any type other than the Bible. This was another reason that, although she was a prolific writer, she never published any of her work. Despite her education and her many success, Anne had to overcome several hardships during her life. The ocean voyage and the move to the new world was one of these. She suffered from poor health for much of her life.

Childhood On July 6, 1921, Anne Frances Robbins was born in New York City, she was an only child of Kenneth Robbins, a salesman, and Edith Luckett Robbins, an aspiring actress. From an early age, Anne acquired the nickname “Nancy”. During Nancy’s infancy, her father, Kenneth left the marriage, leading to Edith to send her daughter to be raised by her aunt and uncle, Virginia and C. Audley Galbraith, in Bethesda, Maryland. While there, Nancy attended Sidwell Friends School.

There was a lot of stress put on her, especially at her young age. But it only motivated her to keep pushing and to write more and this was around the time of World War II. Going through grief was a rollercoaster of emotions for her. She had to live the rest of her life without her father.

She didn’t grow up in a very wealthy family and wanted to go to college and be more educated than them. Although they all wrote in different ways and for different reasons, they all share the inspiration and enthusiasm they had for literature.

In the novel And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie, the plot revolves around a group of strangers all accused of murder who will soon meet their death. Katherine Mansfield was born in New Zealand in 1888 and went to school in England. After she had finished her studies in England she returned home but was displeased with how she was living in New Zealand so she returned to England. Between the years of 1911 – 1915 she wrote many short stories and book reviews in magazines, most notably the “Blue Review.” That is how she met her second husband John Murry; they married in 1918. She passed away in 1923 due to complications with tuberculosis.
