Poetry can be used as a completely separate language on how someone can express him or herself, voice their opinions on issues, as well as create something a person can enjoy reading and writing. What makes poetry unique is that it takes ideas and puts them into simple language that the reader can understand and relate to through emotion and imagery. On the other hand, poetry in its form can also be a puzzle in how to interpret what the poem has to say or what the meaning behind or the subject of the poem. The construction, as well as the heart and soul that goes into the creation process of the poem, is what drives the poems to be as unique as the poet intends them to be. Two examples of this are Terrence Hayes and Harryette Mullen who are …show more content…
When the reader first sees this poem on the page they think that it is a bunch of nonsense such as it is a broken up telephone message that the receiver doesn’t understand half of it and the message just turns into gibberish. Some readers can say that the poem is childish, really simple to read and not get the gist of it as well as repetitive. Other readers may think that it is a silly aspect and feel ashamed to even read it aloud or just read it in general. In other words, the world today members of society take things way too seriously and what us humans have to say isn’t always important or have a purpose and is finally catchy. The reader when they first read this poem would think the poem is full of words that mean absolutely nothing and just move on to the next …show more content…
To find the true meaning the reader just has to take a second or minute to take a look at the poem itself. Mullen likes to play with words in the dictionary and in this poem the lines that make up the poem are in alphabetical order just like how the dictionary is in alphabetical order (12). Mullen is also using words that are very onomonopoetic and filled with life to bring the meaning of the poem to life (12). Even though, a person at first wouldn’t think so the words that are used in this poem are actually have been added over time to the dictionary so even though us as readers don 't know off hand what the words mean or their definitions doesn 't mean that they are not in the dictionary. Examples of these words straight from the poem itself are "bon-bon, ack-ack, and Bebe" (12). The meaning of these words from the dictionary since at this point the reader doesn’t know what the definitions are is that a “bon-bon” is a French candy, “ack-ack” is a machine gun to the British during World War II as well as "Bebe" which means a baby in Spanish
Poetry is the literature created from the soul. The idea behind poetry feeds from the emotion and the creativity given by the author. For some, Poetry is understood as the desire for no written rules or room for boundaries. This reflection will present an analysis of the various techniques and interventions which develops a poem. The reflection will also compare and critic the works of Charles Olson (1997) and Jill Jones (2009).
Although I understand that those parts are supposed to be poetic, it’s still hard to read between the lines and I believe it went over many readers’
In “The Trouble with Poetry”, and “Introduction to Poetry” Billy Collins focuses on the issue of forced inspiration, and the lack of appreciation readers, and aspiring poets have for the feel of poetry. In “Introduction to Poetry”, Collins mentions that some poetry enthusiasts try too hard to find the meaning of a poem; to try and decipher it like some ancient hieroglyphics, that they forget that poetry is not an essay and does not necessarily have to have a distinct message. In stanza’s seven and eight, the speaker states that poetry should be felt, and that what one poem means to a group of people could have a completely different effect on another group. In stanza eight “Feel the walls” is the speaker’s ways of saying that one should feel a poem and let the poem speak to them, instead of searching for what they believe to be its true meaning.
The poem has actually expressed the casual behavior of society towards abuse victims. People only use words as an expression but do not come for actual help. Nobody claims to be there for the victim instead they keep on carrying meaningless conversations which are not aimed in actually bettering off the conditions of the abuse victims. The word ‘Poem’ expresses the same notion of just using words but offering no help for the injured bodies.
Poetry is a very unique type of writing. Poetry allows people to express their emotions in a way they feel comfortable. Every poem has a meaning to it, whether it is talking about food, interest, or a moment in their lives. Readers often mistake the poet as the narrator, although in many cases this is true. Many poets are the narrators and the poems are about their personal life.
Music could mean crickets singing, rain falling, a visiting breeze or even a creek running. The angels’ choir, or the sounds of night, simply assist us along our journey. For these sounds are the “pale tall choirs.” Pale and tall possibly referring to the moon and the way its light shines down upon the world, or maybe even a literal choir of angels. Poems tend to construct more of a feeling than a sense of understanding.
Biby has great use of sensory detail. He uses a fantastic example of touch imagery. ”And in those days of darkness, the gentle touch of "just a dog"”(Biby 10). The line is interesting to me because I have a dog named Dip that is also gentle and makes me remember him. Biby has great use of sensory detail.
Poetry is an important part of literature which conveys an author 's ideas across to the reader through the use of descriptive language. Poetry helps an author to express their inner emotions and often incorporates various poetic devices which enriches the text. Poetry gives the reader a different perspective and when read closely, can give the audience a look into the authors imagination. Likewise, poetic devices enhance the writing and can drastically change the mood of the poem, as well as, how the reader interprets the poem. Poetic devices are important in literature because they help to convey a message, add spontaneity to a poem, and give the reader a strong visual.
Although, poetry can be great, yet it eludes all definition and often too mysterious for ordinary mortals; yet to claim that poetry eludes all definition is merely to reinforce the idea that it is simply too mysterious for ordinary mortals” (477). Poetry is of a Greek origin, according to Merriam -Webster, poetry is a writing that formulates a concentrated imaginative awareness of experience in language chosen and arranged to create a specific emotional response through meaning, sound, and rhythm. This definition stressed the four elements of a patterned arrangement of language, rhythm, emotion, and intensity. Poetry can be different from the writer, reader, unlike movies and music. Poetry can tell a story, give a remark on event, time and
Poetry is defined by the oxford dictionary as: Literary work in which the expression of feeling and ideas is given intensity by the use of distinctive style and rhythm; poems collectively or as a genre of literature. Leonard Cohen describes poetry as: Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash. Poetry has the ability to teach us, it gives us a deeper insight to the lives, events and characters that take life within the poems. Poets such as Walt Whitman and his poem “Come up from the fields, father” tell us of the mother and daughters experience in learning there son and brother has been injured in the war.
Poems are short meaningful pieces of literature that can be interpreted in multiple ways depending upon the reader at hand. That is what makes a poem unique compared to other literature pieces because in a poem the author tends to use figurative language to fulfill meaning behind their work. One poem “Love is a Sickness Full of Woes” by Samuel Daniel describes the pains of being lovesick. Love can either benefit us if nurtured and cared for, but if not tended to then let loose can ultimately hurt us. As to another poem “American Solitude” by Grace Schulman describes a life of solitude being most warming to the soul to ward off loneliness.
This poem doesn 't rhyme; however, it is pleasing to the senses. One literary element it uses is onomatopoeia; this allows the reader to “hear” the sounds in the poem to tell a story. The sounds of the plum in this poem allows the reader to experience the eating of a plum in his mind while he reads it. Words such as “pout and push...savory murmur...pierced, bitten” are
The author composed the poem in such a way that it is dulcet to read. The message within the poem is evident because of the Metaphors of nature and the destruction of mankind. Andrew
“Poetry is ordinary language raised to the Nth power. Poetry is bonded with ideas, nerved and blooded with emotions, all held together by the delicate, tough skin of words,”(Paul Engle). Poetry covers all spectrums of life, whether it encompasses morality, love, death, or finding ones true self. When reading poetry one may stumble across pure brilliance, words so powerful they have the ability challenge the mind. Emily Dickinson and Walt Whitman have that such gift, and are nothing short of illustrious.
The Romantic period believed that emotion was a form of intelligence, and art was a path to transcendence. As a result of the change in beliefs, Romantic poetry is often characterized by nature, imagination, memory, and wisdom. Imagination acts as a source of creativity, and allows us to see what is not immediately apparent. The Romantics believed that we could discover the imagination in nature, which often resulted in a harmony of the two. However, there are times when nature and imagination are in conflict with each other; for example, when imagination acts as an illusion, and distracts us from confronting the issue.
