Within the United States, Presidents are able to shape the county into whatever way they want when still following the rules, but that is not the case for Andrew Jackson. Known also as “old hickory”, Jackson has caused many events that had shaped our country in both positive and negative ways. Andrew Jackson was in fact a democrat and served as president from 1829 - 1837. At one point in his childhood, he was a orphan and had no immediate family alive. After this experience, he accepted an offer to serve as a public prosecutor. When he arrived, he built a legal practice, entered into trading ventures, and began to acquire land and slaves. Not only this, but he was the man who made the controversial national bank and the Indian Removal Acts. Should he have the luxury of having the spot on the $20 when …show more content…
Andrew Jackson should be removed from the $20 bill. The first reason that Andrew Jackson should not be on the $20 bill is because he was the man who created the controversial national bank. Jackson created this bank originally because he believed that it would provided credit and simulated the economy, but some americans including James Madison and Thomas Jefferson, two past presidents, had argued that the bank was unconstitutional. They stated that the constitution didn’t conferred no power to establish a national bank or any other corporation, therefore our president was unloyal to the foundation of this nation. In the charter to eliminate this bank, it labeled it elitist and anti-republican, unconstitutional, and was only benefiting a privileged few. Do we want a president who abused power in order to create a bank not benefiting everyone to be represented on our money? Many may argue that Jackson did this for making our country more “valuable”, but in the end, it just broke the steady foundation of this country by “bending” the rules in a negative way. There are other influential americans that deserve this luxurious spot
However Jackson believed that the bank was unconstitutional. He was not very fond of the fact that the wealthy people in the country benefited from the bank, while the people in poverty did not. Like many other Americans at the time, Jackson strongly believed that the National Bank had too much power, however he also believed that the bank was bad for the economy which was not true. The National Bank strongly backed the United States economy. Many knew this, including Henry Clay, who knew that if the bank no longer existed the economy would soon fall apart.
I think President Andrew Jackson’s image should be removed from the 20 dollar bill because it doesn’t reflect what the U.S. is about. He was a president, but in my opinion, he wasn’t a very good one because of the many atrocities he committed against Native Americans. One of those bad decisions was forcing many Indians to move to Oklahoma. Another example of this is when he was given the orders to invade Florida, but he destroyed all of the Seminole tribe there. He also let his personal experiences cloud his judgment, especially with the British.
Andrew Jackson does not deserve to be on the twenty-dollar bill because he pushed Indians and Natives off their land, which caused thousands of Indians and Natives to die in the middle of winter, and thus caused the Trail of Tears. Considering his life as being a hero to some and at the same time being a cruel, evil man to others, he shouldn’t be on the twenty-dollar bill. A reason why Andrew Jackson shouldn’t be on the twenty-dollar bill is because of how he forced thousands of Indians and Natives off their land and territory. In the beginning the Indians tried their best to be like the white man.
Andrew Jackson should be removed off of the twenty dollar bill because he is the representation of racism and
Andrew Jackson not only merely disliked the banks, but was against them so much that he and his supporters resorted to calling them “Monster Banks”. Jackson tried, and succeeded, to close the Bank of the US during a conflict we know today as the Bank War. This bank war sparked the stock market crash and even a depression. Without the bank, the paper money that people were given had
Andrew Jackson was not democratic. Jackson was stubborn and was not open to other decisions but his own. For example, Jackson made the decision to help out a former supporter and appoint Samuel Swartwout as a collector in office, even though he had a past history of “criminal tendencies”. Because of Andrew’s poor decision, Samuel stole over $1,000,000; this was a very monumental theft. The robbery could have been avoided if Jackson listened to the people around him saying “no”.
Andrew Jackson is not deserving of being on the $20 bill because he used the spoils system, the Indian Removal Act, and closing the National Bank. Jackson is not deserving
Andrew Jackson, the slayer of 3,000 Native Americans, should not be on the $20 bill. He passed an Indian Removal Act and had many slaves. He was a harsh master to his slaves. Jackson fired utterly superb federal employees. Jackson was cruel for removing Indians for more farmland.
In Jackson's Bank Veto Message, he states that his principal reason for his veto was that he wanted to prevent the existence of monopolies. This is a fine reasoning that also goes along with is political views. The objection to this is that he was warned on how it would be detrimental to the United States economy but still went through with it. It cannot be overlooked that he had to fire two different secretaries until he finally appointed a close friend to agree with him. This is an obvious abuse of power, seeing as he fired two people simply for telling him that his idea would not work.
In “Jackson Battles the Bank”, Jackson shows that he promotes equal rights because of his destruction of the national bank. The national bank only supported the wealthy, and Jackson believed that we should have banks that also support the farmers and workers. In destroying the national bank, he created state banks that supported the people's’ needs. In “The Nullification Crisis”, Jackson shows that he gave peace and stability to the nation to form a strong democracy.
Andrew Jackson during his time was considered a very patriotic politician he hated the rich, he hated the Indian, and loved the idea of slavery. It has been said that he grew up not educated and had a bad up bring but still managed to get to a high political suture. Jackson at one point was general and had a very decorated portfolio, which made sense he would become president, Andrew was most well know for “The Battle of New Orleans” where Andrew Jackson, prevented the British Army and General Edward Pakenham, from seizing New Orleans nearing the end of that war.
One of the biggest thing that Jackson had done as a president was in 1832. Jackson vetoed a bill that would renew the second bank charter early. Jackson stated “I will kill it!”. He said this because he didn’t like the bank at all and he believed that it made the rich richer and the poor poorer. He said in his veto message “It is easy to conceive that great evils to our country and its institutions might flow from such a concentration of power in the hands of a few men irresponsible to the people.”
Although they never repaid fully they did pay back a portion of the money. He also applied them in a stable amount of food . In order to gain more land for the country, Jackson drove the Natives out of their land and killed thousands. Even though these actions were horrid he paid them to move and gave them the entire year while also sending them to another part of america. Not to mention, he did this to make sure that the people could have more farming land and so he could expand america.
’’ was raised. Andrew Jackson brought power to the people of America by making his ways democratic. Today, people often view what he did as wrong, but back then he was a hero. Over time, he increased people trust in the democratic way of their country. Between the years of 1828 and 1836 almost all states had the people choose their presidential electors (Document
Andrew jackson was one of the worst presidents because he made many unconstitutional choices that made a big difference. One of the many unconstitutional thing he did was that he gave government jobs to his friends and the people that voted for him, also know as the spoils system. He also forced the natives out of their land because he wanted more land, the indians also had to walk 1000 miles to the oklahoma territories that is now oklahoma. By giving his friends and people who voted for him a government job he “spoiled” the people that voted for him and supported him. This is not right because these people do not have the experience towards the job, This could possibly ruin the political system
