Andrew Jackson's Worst President

Andrew Johnson is came from a poor family and was not educated until later years. He was born on December 29, 1808 and died July 31, 1875/ He was the seventh president. Andrew Johnson finished out Araham Lincoln's term when he was assasinated. He was a very prejudice person who believed the United States was for white men and should only be governed by white men. Many people think he was the worst president the United States has ever had until Barack Obama come along.

In keeping with the principle, Jackson tried to abolish the College Electors (those who choose the president) by Constitutional amendment.” This quote shows President Jackson’s heroism in fighting for the people to have the power to elect their president directly. Many people would disagree and say Andrew Jackson is a villain, he did do things that were frowned upon. Probably the most negative thing is the Indian Removal Act.

Jackson, like the common man back then, supported slavery. He killed, and took the land from millions of Native Americans and push them west. This was known as the Trail of Tears, the saddest time in history of the Native Americans. He vetoed the re-charter of the Bank of the United States by abusing

Andrew Jackson was one of the greatest presidents who made very difficult decisions for our country. Although his choices were not always the popular decision, he made choices that were always promoting democracy. The things that make a good democracy are: giving people a say in government, having a good leader that you can trust to make wise decisions, peace and stability between each country and other states, and having equal power in the government (checks and balances). Andrew Jackson came into office with a popular vote and great support. His supporters viewed him as a man of the people.

However, he abused this position of power and made several choices that were detrimental to the welfare and rights of the American people. Jackson implemented the spoils system on a national scale and had unofficial members of his cabinet who did not have to answer to Congress. After South Carolinians were upset by the Tariff of 1832 he was angry toward those who did not agree with it. He also destroyed the National Bank and authorized the Specie Circular.

This title gave him a boost on reasons of why he should become president. Other than that, Jackson should not have been elected president, for he made many inexpert and wrong decisions such as the Indian Removal. Andrew Jackson was a tough man. He even went by the name of ‘Old Hickory’. Andrew Jackson was a terrible president, but also a good president. There are many reasons why Andrew Jackson was a bad president. These are only the few reasons that we all already know or they are major events stated in US history.

Andrew Jackson has been remembered as a ground breaking president, even being put on the $20. President Jackson was a controversial figure, doing many popular and unpopular things in his time. Although he is remembered as a hero from the war of 1812, he also caused the Trail of Tears and tried to destroy the National Bank. As a result, Jackson should not be put on the $20 bill. His actions have caused many misfortune showing that villains do exist.

One of the biggest thing that Jackson had done as a president was in 1832. Jackson vetoed a bill that would renew the second bank charter early. Jackson stated “I will kill it!”. He said this because he didn’t like the bank at all and he believed that it made the rich richer and the poor poorer. He said in his veto message “It is easy to conceive that great evils to our country and its institutions might flow from such a concentration of power in the hands of a few men irresponsible to the people.”

Andrew Jackson the seventh president of the United States was devoted to make the nation a better place to be in. This means to have power, wealth, and riches in America. In order to make The United States a better place, president Jackson believed that the Indians were going to become a problem in the near future. There are many arguments for and against Indian removal. One of the major arguments for Indian removal were that due to an increase in cotton production.

There has been a lot of controversy of Andrew Jackson, whether he was a good president or one that destroyed the office of the presidency. However, Andrew Jackson is not guilty. He was a good president and should not be accused of degrading the office of the presidency. The first aspect which people accuse Andrew Jackson of wrong doing is what everyone calls The Spoils System. Andrew Jackson came into office, and designed a rotation.

Andrew Jackson disobeyed a direct order from the Supreme Court, which it means he was above the law. I really wonder how Americans tolerated him, at that time, he was cruel to the Indian common man. Because of him, the Native Americans have the worst end of the Trail of Tears. They are the ones who are forced out of their traditional homes and sent away on a journey of pain and death. Those who had fallen ill, most of the time died, and those who had the will to move on were able to make it to the end and start new lives.

Andrew Jackson: Man of the People or Dictator Andrew Jackson was born between North and South Carolina in 1767. His father died days before his birth, and Jackson was difficult child. He was an incredibly unruly child. Andrew Jackson mistreated the rich and wrote them off. Andrew Jackson shut down the national bank which hurt many of the upper class people's economic status. Andrew Jackson killed thousands of Native Americans on the Trail of Tears. Jackson forced them off their native land and made them travel thousands of miles with only the clothes in their back. Jackson built his own side cabinet and the spoils system which caused America to loose millions of dollars.

Jackson: Good or Evil Andrew Jackson had a negative impact on the formation of our country. Opinions are very disputed over Jackson, whether he is liked or disliked. On one hand, some believe he was a great president and contributed to our country remarkably. On the other hand, he murdered men in duels, went against the Supreme Court, and forced hundreds of Native Americans to leave their homeland just because of a gold rush. Although Jackson did many things for our country, his atrocious actions outnumber his positive impacts staining this “great” president’s legacy.
