Sense after reading "life of Pi" Pi is a teenager born in India and at the same time believing in Christianity, Islam and Hinduism. His father runs a zoo, so he knows the habits of animals. Frankly speaking, the beginning of this story is not attractive, mixed with a religious belief in a teenager's growth experience. Then the story officially entered into the "fantasy draft". Pi family take boat to move to Canada with their animals, Pi's father wanted to bring the animals to a foreign country in order to sell a good price.

Pi continues his journey by learning how to live in a small space with these animals and even training one of them. In the end Pi reveals another story with people replacing the animals that were on the lifeboat before. Pi had initially used animals which best represented the people who were really in the boat. In the novel “Fools Crow,” James Welch, the author, expounded on the connections between animals and the Pikunis, a tribe of the Blackfoot people. Likewise, in the novel “Things Fall Apart,” Chinua Achebe, the author, dived into the ibos lives expounding on their connection with their chi which either causes them good or bad fortune. The Pikunis considered the animals as their helpers and believed in partnering up with the animals (one animal per a Pikuni) to garner up their powers and yield to their calling of help in time of these animals’ needs. The Pikunis believed the animals to be their “Animal helpers” since, they had helped this indigenous group of people during wars and crisis by equipping the Pikunis with their powers. Although not as much as in “Fools Crow,” both authors, through the use of magic realism, showed the relationship between White Man’s Dog, the protagonist who was later known as Fools Crow, and his animal helper, the wolverine, and the relationship between Okonkwo and his chi and the benefits of these relationships.

Rapid industrialization has led to the widespread destruction of the natural wilderness around us. In President Jimmy Carter’s foreword to “Arctic National Wildlife Refuge: Seasons of Life and Land, A Photographic Journey” by Subhankar Banerjee, he describes the picturesque scenery of the Arctic refuge and with it’s one in a million biodiversity, the need to protect it from development of industries and its negative side effects. The author starts his discussion by describing ‘America’s Serengeti’, its inhabitants and their surroundings. He personifies the animals with almost human like behavior – connecting with his audience’s emotions and grabbing their attention instantly.

With the combination of magical realistic events and Pi’s religious beliefs, Pi along with the reader a contemplates life’s concepts. From the very beginning, Pi makes his love and yearning for religion clear. As Life of Pi progresses, the protagonist picks up multiple religions as he travels through the novel. With the addition of first Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity, Pi gains attention from leaders and priests of these faiths. Conflict commences with the religious leaders of these individual faiths.

He is unable to understand why the Lord isn’t listening to his prayers and why everything is detrimental to him. Keeping his religious beliefs at sea is very challenging for Pi, this leads him to experience feelings of disbelief towards God. Despite his doubts, Pi continues to pray and practice his religions. He eventually comes to the conclusion that once everything is taken away from him and he is in complete darkness, he will always have his faith. He admits that loving God is difficult, but it’s something he must do if he is to survive his journey across the ocean.

In essence, for everyday survival, it 's often better to maintain the important boundary between animals and humans, but through Pi 's story and relationship with Richard Parker, Martel shows us that staying open to what connects humans and animals, and all creatures, can provide an equally important key for staying alive. The Life of Pi, emphasizes the intensity of a predator-prey relationship, and it also reminds humans of their inner animal: we can all be dangerous to our fellow creatures. However, despite this, all animals have the potential and even a desire to connect beyond mere survival, looking for companionship and empathy across species
