Gun Control is Not the Answer Increasing gun control will not decrease crime, but changing the ways in which we punish the crimes will. When you think about crime the first thing that comes to mind is gun control. However, there are already numerous laws on the books that are not being followed. Criminals do not follow the laws and that is the problem. The punishments for crimes do not fit the bill and criminals figure even if they get caught the punishment really is not that bad so they may as well do the crime. Criminals do not get gun or weapons legally in the first place so adding extra gun laws will not prevent criminals from obtaining weapons. Gun laws prevent normal citizens from protect themselves and their families. When criminals obtain guns and weapons, they are not getting them from legal channels. The criminals steal them or buy them illegally on the streets. Sometimes people who …show more content…
Having background checks are good to prevent violent offenders from buying weapons but there again it does not prevent them from getting weapons. It may slow down the process but it does not eliminate the process. With the long wait times for citizens to receive their guns the criminals are receiving their weapons quicker and have an advantage over the law abiding citizens. Gun control laws actually help criminals. The criminals know that citizens have to wait to get their guns. They also know what kind of weapons the people are allowed to have and which they are not. This puts the advantage in the criminals hands. If the criminals know what they are up against they can prepare. The citizens have no idea what to expect from the criminal. Since criminals obtain weapons off the streets there is no telling what they may or may not have. This makes it very dangerous for people and it also makes it hard to protect yourself in an unknown
I don’t want more crime just because people have stricter gun laws. Taking away guns may cause people to go to other ways of committing violent crimes. I also think if we have don’t have more gun control laws, then gun deaths would reduce dramatically. American children under age 15 were nine times more likely to die of a gun accident than children in other advanced wealthy countries. About 200 Americans go to emergency rooms every day with gunshot wounds (Frum).
There is no reason to completely take away guns from people, criminals will still find a way.
If you recollect about it, this really should be an anticipated effect of gun control, though most people don 't remember far enough past the words "gun" and "control" to see it. When you do give up and recollect about it though, the criminals who are committing crimes at present are the ones still making this a relevant issue of discussion in the foremost position. They are the aces who are either getting access to certain weapons that are already illegal and/or the ones who are using legal weapons illegally. If it weren 't for them disregarding laws and causing these crime rates to fail up, gun control would not still be in
Gun control laws restrict law abiding citizens from exercising their constitutional rights while doing little to keep the criminals from obeying the law. “The Second Amendment to the Constitution of the United States reads: ‘A well- regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.’” (Bernards 41). The Second Amendment directly states that citizens have to right to “keep and bear arms” without their rights being
Im assuming that no one in here will ever go out and commit a violent crime involving a firearm. However i cant guarantee that some people we are around everyday will not be involved in a violent crime. I'd like to tell you today why gun control should not be put into large scale effect . I'd like to bring up the number of violent crimes involving firearms in the united states in the year of 2013 before the bulk of the gun control movement had started (refer to chart). IN the year 2013 there were 16,121 homicides nation wide and out of that number 11,208 of them were caused by a firearm of those deaths approximately 750 of the murders were committed with an illegally owned firearm which shows that you do not have to be a felon that is unable to possess a firearm in order to take someones life with one.
It makes sense to believe that if firearms are harder to possess than there will be less violence involving them. Well, based on research this is not true and we should not strictly control firearms. I tend to agree with this proposal based on the fact that stricter gun control leads to more violence, for example Mexico has some of the strictest laws in the world when concerning gun legislation, yet has 10 homicides per 100,000 people compared to the United States’ 3 homicides per 100,000 people (Gun Control ProCon.org). This shows that stricter laws may not necessarily work for the United States as it is evident that gun violence per capita is much higher in a country with more restrictions, and the problem is most likely going to need a more complex solution.
I understand that if everybody had a firearm it would raise the murder rate tremendously, but one must admit should be a little harder to get a gun, just cause you don’t have a criminal background does not mean you are not capable of doing the same actions a criminal. The gun control law should be made to where if you wanted to purchase a firearm, that you
Drugs are illegal, yet criminals still find their way to abuse drugs. Therefore, making guns illegal will not stop criminals from being able to get guns. Gun control laws infringe upon the right to self-defense and deny people a sense of safety. Stricter gun laws would make it more difficult for people to protect their homes and families. Gun control laws, like laws to try to ban assault rifles, go against the right to own guns for hunting and sport.
Gun control laws may restrict these people who are responsible from defending themselves. So honestly gun control contradicts itself as much as it helps. For starters does gun laws really deter crime. No, honestly gun control does not deter crime in all cases.
Though criminals are thrown off from households by guns, but they can also be deterred from companies by guns. If gun control continues to get tighter and tighter, we will have nothing left to scare off those criminals.
A criminal will always have a weapon and a way to get more weapons, criminals do not follow the law. In Chicago, they have some of the strictest gun laws in America, but the shootings still increase; they have had at least 141 people shot and over 40 deaths since the start of 2018. No
Strict regulations and limitations have been pursued already and clearly do not suffice. Statics brought to attention by gun control opponents, show that gun control laws have done little to reduce crime rates. Several restrictions have been made on certain guns, considered as overly dangerous, though in the hands of an unstable criminal even a legal hunting gun can be deadly. Countless restrictions have been made, however people have still found ways around them. If people are unstable and determined enough, they will find a gun, regardless of the restrictions or regulations.
In the past, the major gun control legislations that have been put into effect have not stopped people from obtaining firearms (Gun Control.) There have also been cases in the past where cities have attempted to ban handguns. After the ban was put into effect, murder rates tended to rise instead of drop, unlike what most people might assume. Crime rates and violence also skyrocketed after the bans were put into effect. Another problem with taking guns away, or banning them, is that the government cannot expect everyone to abide by the laws.
Although there are rules and regulations already in place there still is a lot of crime occurring, because laws on gun
Instead of banning or limiting guns, the evidence will show that removing the current restrictions and targeting individuals instead of guns will be a more effective process. The topic of gun control has two polarized opinions. One such opinion targets the individuals responsible for the crime, instead of just the weapons. John Moorhouse and Brent Wanner tackle the issue of gun control in their article “Does Gun Control Reduce Crime Or Does Crime Increase Gun Control”, which was published in 2006 in the twenty-sixth volume of the Cato Journal. These researchers looked at the effects gun control laws had on violent crime and gun violence in the individual states.
