There is a raging argument in the world that many people are divided about. The argument is gun control, should we ban guns, or is there another way to stop mass shootings? In my research book called “Shooting Back” it talks about how On July 25, 1993, a man named Charl Van Wyk personally experienced the attack on the ST James Massacre. At that time, their area was experiencing danger and fighting so Charl had his gun with him at the church. When a couple of men walked into the church holding guns, no one was sure what was happening, they thought it could have been part of a scene from the play going on, until the men started to fire at the crowd. They shot random people, and threw grenades with nails in the sides killing even more people. …show more content…
This shows how people have reasons guns should not be banned, how would we defend ourselves against people with guns if we cannot fight back without breaking a law. Charl saved a lot of lives at his church, but if he had killed a man while protecting others, he could have gone to jail, how can we protect ourselves if we cannot fight, we must use our words, lessen the news about all the shootings, don 't talk of the murderers weapons, this will make it so copycats have nothing to follow, don 't make a spectacle out of bad guys, be like batman, he does not use guns, no matter what, that is how we should be, and don 't ignore the shootings, just don 't see it as a easy way to get fame, as it is not worth the cost, no matter how grand it looks, if it helps, go look at a prison, how would it feel to be stuck there, no good, which is why i believe we should decrease the amount of media attention on shootings, as it just leads to more
Gun Control and Mass Shootings in America Gun violence is an unquestionable issue in America, with the United States ranking as one of the worst with both homicides and suicides using guns. That being said, we outnumber Mexico in gun related deaths and among first-world countries we rank far above others in the number of gun deaths, such as England and Australia. Consequently, we live in one of the only first world countries that does not have extensive gun laws and restrictions to gun access. Aside from the countless homicides and suicides by firearm in this country, one particular issue within this predicament is mass shootings, with the most recent mass shooting occurring on February 14th, 2018 at a high school in Parkland, Florida where 17 people were killed. Although, it may seem like an easy fix to just implement gun control laws into our society to eliminate gun violence, but it is important to note that Americans own nearly half of all firearms globally, which is roughly 325 million guns;
With the 2nd Amendment being in place, there have been thousands of mass shootings involving gun violence. Starting with one of the earliest documented cases, in 1984 James Oliver Huberty, a 41 year
Mass shootings are a horrific event prevalent in our society for many years. On July 18, 1984, James Huberty fires with his long-barreled Uzi at a McDonald’s San Ysidro, California, killing twenty-one adults and children. Another gunman, George Hennard, fires in a Luby's Cafeteria in Killeen, Texas, killing a total of twenty-three people on On October 16, 1991. A different mass murderer, Seung-Hui Cho, shoots thirty-two students and faculty members dead at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia on April 16, 2007. Additionally, Adam Lanza opens fire at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut killing twenty students aging from six to seven, and six staff on December 14, 2012.
I believe that due to recent shootings, we as America should do something to put an end to these shootings. I know that the difference between gun advocates versus gun control activists is that gun advocates have guns and know how to use them properly. Donald Trump has stated that to put an end to the shootings is not only due from obtaining a gun, but mental health. I also believe that it isn’t necessary to own a gun unless you’re using. I am torn between both sides, because half of the people feel more safe when they have a gun on hand, and the others feel more safe knowing that no one is in possession of a weapon.
Mass shootings have become a commonality for Americans, and we as a country have become used to the high death toll associated with these tragedies. Killers armed to the teeth seek a highly dense hunting ground to rake in as many kills during their bloodbath. Mass shootings are not uniquely an American problem, but they are uniquely common here. Federal bans, public safety campaigns, and state laws have attempted to attack the mass shooting dilemma. As shootings continue, the issue remains a prevalent debated topic in politics and leaving many dumbfounded on what course of action needs to be taken to save us from the plight we’re in.
According to Gun Violence Archive (GVA) “as of today there is a total of 27,645 of gun incidents in the United States, of this total, 7,151 are deaths, 14,749 injuries, 319 are children between the ages of 0 to 11 years old, 1,551 are teens between the ages of 12 to 17, 179 of this incidents correspond to a number of mass shootings, 171 are officers that were either killed or injured, 960 were individuals involved with crime, 1,160 due to home invasion, only 849 are use in defense and 1,179 correspond to accidental” (Gun Violence Archive, 1). Due to high numbers on statistics regarding gun violence a lot of people wonder if by giving the right to people to keep arms is keeping them safe or turning them into a menace to society. Some people believe that gun control will not deter crime and it will prevent citizens from protecting themselves. However, some other individuals believe that gun control will reduce gun
a Bloom A prodigious amount of attention has been drawn to gun crime after many mass shootings in 2015. A mass shooting is defined by the FBI as four or more people shot and/or killed in a single event at the same general time and location (Gun Violence Archive). According to the Mass Shooting Tracker, 371 mass shootings took place in 2015 alone-- leaving 1,387 people wounded and 469 dead. Gun control has become an enduring dispute with many proponents for both sides. Congress needs to find a way to assure that the right to bear arms is protected, but also legally keep guns out of the hands of certain people.
Most do not like to admit that mass shootings are becoming a part of everyday life. They are becoming the activity that some Americans are using to cope with stress or things they do not agree with. Instead of letting things go, some people are beginning to take their anger out on others. They believe by doing this they are proving a point and releasing their anger. Mass shootings are beginning to occur rapidly in the United States.
School shootings are starting to become a norm in today 's world. This is something we can only take precautions for but, we cannot completely stop school shootings from happening. Banning guns is not the option because the shooters are still going to find a way to get their guns. We should not punish everybody for the stupidity of some people 's actions. "At Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado two teens went on a shooting spree on April 20, 1999, killing 13 people and wounding more than 20 others before turning their guns on themselves and committing suicide" (Columbine Shooting, 2018).
Gun Control Debate Jake Novak, in an article for CNBC titled, “Gun control isn’t the answer. We already know how to stop the violence,” gives his opinion regarding the controversial issue of gun control. Novak argues that gun control is not the answer to rising gun violence but that proper enforcement of the law would go a long way in reducing the cases of gun violence in America. He states, “We actually solved the issue of rising gun violence in America in the mid-1990’s and again in the early 2000’s by doing something radical. We enforced the law” (Novak 28).
Gun control has been a controversial issue for years and numerous solutions have been proposed and enacted. The debate sparked after tragic civilian attacks, like school shootings. An example, is the tragedy in 1999 at Columbine High School. Two teens attacked the school, killing 13 people and wounding more than 20 others before killing themselves. Following this attack, numerous solutions have been argued and purposed.
In addition, there has been over 250 shootings since that fateful day in 1999 (Pearle). To deal with these tragic occurrences, the government has opened the debate on gun laws and regulations. But this debate often leads to officials being unable to make up their minds or whole groups of people being split on their opinion. This causes a stalemate that does not help our nation 's current situation. Today, the government is not doing enough to prevent school shootings.
The use of and the owning of guns is a very hot and debated topic in society today. For many, this is a life and death debate due to the recent and numerous school shootings. These school shootings have caused an outcry for more gun control, specifically in relation to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Despite these calls, increased gun control is not the answer. Most gun owners’ use their guns responsibly and for good purposes.
Mass shootings are becoming more common now than in any other period in the history of the United States. Some would say that this is the result of insufficient gun control making guns too readily available and accessible. Others would disagree with this outtake completely. They would argue that not enough people had the ability and know how to be able to fight back. They would argue that not enough people have guns and the ability to correctly handle them.
The number of incidents of gun violence last year in the United States was about 60,000. In recent years, the number of mass shooting has risen to about one mass shooting per day in the United States. The country is divided with some wanting to reevaluate our gun control laws and either ban or add additional regulations to the purchase of guns. Others say it is our right for Americans to own guns and something the founding fathers considered important to put in the Bill of Rights. The number of firearm sales has risen with the number of mass shooting many Americans question if banning guns or certain guns could help decrease the number of gun violence deaths.
