The Most Dangerous Game
In “The Most Dangerous Game,” the roles between the hunters and the hunted switch often throughout the story. One of the main characters, Rainsford, finds himself trapped in a life or death situation. Rainsfords ship gets sabotaged and he finds himself alone on a mysterious island. All hope seems lost until Rainsford comes across a mansion in the jungle. Richard Connell, the author of the short story, likes to switch roles a lot in the plot. In the beginning, Rainsford is a hunter, according to Zaroff (another important character in the story) he is one of the best hunters. In the middle of the story he turns into the hunted after he has to go “hunting with Zaroff for his own amusement. In the end most people would

“We will hunt you and I, No general” (Connell 225) This is what Zaroff said to Rainsford. Clearly one can see that Zaroff is in control here which makes him the hunter. RAinsford was a hunter in the beginning but when he gets to the island he becomes the prey. This is shown when Zaroff makes him go hunting with him. In the story, zaroff hunts Rainsford throughout the island. Zaroff says that he has never lost in the hunt. he tracks Rainsford vigorously. Some might say that Zaroff isn't a real hunter because he does not give his prey a fair chance but this is not what Zaroff thinks. HE thinks that he gives his prey a good chance to win. Most would disagree that this is not the case. For most of the story Rainsford is hunted. It isn't until the end that the roles switch. In the end, Rainsford beas Zaroff at his own game and kills him. Connell switches the roles yet again and Rainsford becomes the hunter once more and Zaroff is the …show more content…
Connell makes sure of this. In the end the best prey is the best hunter.Things can quickly change as one can see in the story. As stated multiple times people can be both not just one thing. People can be anything not just hunters and prey. People are whatever they think they are and yes there are clearly hunters and prey but no everyone thinks of themselves as one. Some people are really intelligent and know that they are neither. Some people are just followers like Ivan. Some people just go along their whole lives doing what everyone else tells them to do. So no there are not just two types of people in this world. There are many things people can be and saying that there are just two types of people isn't very fair because it's not true. As anyone could see if they read the story there is clearly parts in the novel where the roles of the hunter and the hunted switch. The Reader can clearly see tell that the roles switch a lot and there are not just two types of people in this

At the end of “The Most Dangerous Game,” Rainsford warns Zaroff, “I am still a beast at bay… Get ready” (17). By declaring this, Rainsford threatens to kill Zaroff. Previously in the story, when the two men were chatting over dinner, Zaroff reveals to Rainsford that he hunts humans. Astounded, Rainsford accuses Zaroff of being a murderer.
His first thought is to get as far away as he can, ‘His first idea was to put as distance between himself and General Zaroff.’ But as he calms down and starts thinking rationally, he realizes he needs to try to survive and outsmart Zaroff and play along with his game. As the days go by he starts losing his morals and tries to kill Zaroff, first by dropping a log on him, ‘The dead tree, delicately adjusted to rest on the cut living one crashed down and struck the general.’ Rainsford has started losing his morals and getting more in touch with his beast.
Also, General Zaroff is an extreme hunter and doesn’t find pleasure in hunting regular animals. Zaroff says the most dangerous game is humans because they have the ability to reason. Rainsford is going to be hunted and is given a certain amount of time to survive. Moreover, while Rainsford is being hunted Zaroff
In the story, “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell the protagonist, Rainsford, a very skilled hunter, falls of a ship and finds himself on Ship-Trap Island, where he meets the antagonist, General Zaroff. Rainsford discovers that Zaroff is also an intelligent hunter and is disgusted to discover that he plays a dangerous game in which he hunts humans that he catches on his island, Rainsford becomes his next participant. Rainsford and Zaroff have a lot of similar beliefs about hunting, social classes, and the feelings of their prey and they are both very intelligent hunters. However, Rainsford’s hunting knowledge causes Zaroff’s first loss in his game because Rainsford is the better hunter. The Running Man The running man is the fourth novel written by the Stephen King/ Richard Bechman in 1982, highlighting the miseries of dystopia of the American world. This novel is the fourth writing material out of his seven scripts which embodies the harsh realities of the second half of the twentieth century. The main theme of this novel is the “survival of the poor”. In this novel he went through his pseudonym, Richard Beckman that he often uses in most of his sad or pessimistic stories, the man aged 28 who tries hard for the survival of himself and his family but all the efforts gone in vain (Murphy). In this story the author writes about the Ben Richard, who is an unemployed individual permanently belong to an underclass family.
As he explains to Whitney aboard the yacht, “They’ve [animals] no understanding” and further comments, “Who cares how a jaguar feels?” (1). Rainsford is an uncaring hunter who kills for sport, much like the general he will later meet. In Rainsford’s opinion, “The world is made up of two classes--the hunters and the huntees . . .” and he is proud to classify himself as a hunter (1).
However, it does not change for the better. In the middle of the story when he finds out Zaroff hunts fellow human beings, to Zaroff's surprise, Rainsford’s thought and reaction is utter shock and disbelief. “‘But you can’t mean-’ gasped Rainsford. ‘And why not?’”(10). Zaroff knowing Rainsford was a great hunter he hoped that Rainsford would accompany him on a hunt; however, Rainsford accuses him of being a cold-blooded killer.
In the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game,” the main character Rainsford had gotten stranded on a dangerous island where Zaroff, a Russian Cossack General, hunted humans for sport. He feels that God put the weak on earth to give the strong pleasure, and up until it was his turn to be hunted, so did Rainsford. Earlier in the story Rainsford had stated, “The world is made up of two classes-- the hunters and the huntees.” And as harsh as it may sound, it is technically correct. The world is made of hunters and huntees, predator and prey.
He soon finds shelter and meets a Russian hunter named General Zaroff. Zaroff arrogantly explains to Rainsford on how hunting has bored him, as he has never lost a fight against an animal. He then explains he hunts humans, as they can reason. Zaroff challenges Rainsford to a hunting battle, and when he loses, he realizes that he’s not the best hunter. The first point of pride was when Zaroff is boasting about how he’s never lost a fight to an animal before.
Tanner Toussaint In the short story The Most Dangerous Game by Richard Connell, Rainsford is justified in killing General Zaroff. One of the reasons why Rainsford is justified in killing General Zaroff is on the island the only way to live is to hunt or to be the one being hunted. Secondly, Rainsford is justified in killing General Zaroff because Zaroff wanted to die. Lastly, Rainsford is justified in killing General Zaroff because killing Zaroff is going to be the only way Rainsford will escape the island from a psychopath.
Hunting is a sport for some and a game for others. For the character Zaroff hunting is a game, but the hunted are his own kind. Well reading “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell you will follow the Journey of a world renowned hunter named Rainsford. This story will bring you through his story of trying to stay alive despite the situations. Rainsford and his friend Whitney are heading on their way to hunt jaguars.
The statement by Sanger Rainsford “The world is made up of two classes the hunters and the huntees” means that there are people hunting and there are people who are being hunted. How I feel about the statement is that it is true that is what makes up this world but it is wrong to hunt for fun but right for survival. If you are hunting to find food that is okay but if it’s just to kill something then that is not right.
Therefore, Rainsford won’t ever hunt again because he is traumatized by his experiences on the island. With all his experiences on the island Rainsford became traumatized. For example when Zaroff tells Rainsford about the type of hunting he does, which he hunts actual men. “Hunting? Good God, General Zaroff, what you speak of is murder” (Connell 23).
"The Most Dangerous Game" statement of The world is made up of two classes -- "the hunters and the huntees" is a great statement that makes sense. The Most Dangerous Game is about a man named Zaroff who lives on an island by himself. The people that come to the island get trained to get ready for the game. The game involves people going through the jungle, hiding from Zaroff as he hunts them. Both the hunters and the huntees have a different view on the conflict.
