The murder of JonBenet Ramsey was discovered following the discovery of a ransom letter found by her mother Patsy Ramsey on December 26, 1996 (Saferstein, 2015). There were numerous mistakes made by the Boulder Colorado Police Department. The house was not secured, moreover, not preserved as a crime scene. The ransom letter alone should have prompted the law enforcement officers on scene to secure the house to preserve any evidence. The letter was found at the foot of the stairs within the residence indicating an intruder had in fact entered the Ramsey residence. The preservation of the scene is of the utmost importance to ensure any and all physical evidence can be collected without the risk of contamination. The family invited several individuals into their home following the arrival of the law enforcement officials (Saferstein, 2015). There were no efforts made to limit the entry of outside factors into the house. JonBenet Ramsey’s father, John Ramsey, was allowed to leave the residence for a period of time, then allowed to continue to search the residence upon his return without supervision of a law enforcement official. John Ramsey found JonBenet Ramsey’s body in the basement, picked her up, then carried her up to the living room where he placed her on the floor. Several evidentiary issues can be easily noted with this situation. The …show more content…
Additionally, fibers from both parents clothing were found on the body and clothing of JonBenet Ramsey. It was thought the Patsy Ramsey had written the ransom letter in an attempt to cover up the offense committed by John Ramsey. The evidence collected certainly provided speculation that JonBenet Ramsey’s parents were the perpetrators of the crime. The evidence could have given officials enough to obtain an indictment, consequently, there was doubt it was enough to ensure a
In the controversial court case, the murder of JonBenet Ramsey, many believe the family happens to be the killers; however, the court show take their focus away from the Ramsey family. The neighbors said the Ramsey’s spoiled their children and raised them the best they could, but others say different. The majority of the people that know about this case have their minds set on the parents being the murderers, but there is other evidence that could steer law enforcement away from the family. Evidence was found that night that could show the family did it, but other evidence possibly shows someone else. Since the murder of JonBenet Ramsey, the finding of a ransom note demanding $118,000, random DNA tests, and confession by an individual have
1996, JonBenet Ramsey was found dead in the Ramsey's basement. It all started with a ransom note that was found by the mother, Patricia (Patsy) Ramsey, early that morning. The ransom note was not any typical short note left by a murderer, it was a two and a half page note. On the note, the killer demanded $118,000, one hundred thousand of it being in one hundred dollar bills and the rest in twenty dollar bills. The killer stated , "She is safe and unharmed and if you want her to see 1997, you must follow our instructions to the letter."
It was found that there was a large list of things that were odd and suspicious to the case. First, the ransom note was written with a pen on paper that were both found inside the Ramsey home office and it included spelling errors that looked staged to be as if a foreigner who did not speak English wrote it. Moreover, when rewriting the note, it took approximately 21 and a half minutes to replicate, which seems odd that someone could spend that much time in their home without being noticed and without the fear of being caught. The 911 call made by Patsy Ramsey did not match the statements made by the family. Technology was used to enhance the 911 call received, which found troubling statements made by the Ramseys, including John saying “we are not talking to you” and Patsy replying with “what did you do?
Yeah that’s what I was thinking. My original hypothesis was that the murder was an inside job. To me it didn’t seem plausible that an intruder could climb through a window, go all the way upstairs, us a stun gun on JonBenet and Take her down to the basement and kill her without making a sound or alerting the three people sleeping in the Ramsey household. Watching the CBS television special was vital in proving my hypothesis.
The initial investigation was extensive, however, the killer was not found. Today, the world still doesn’t know who had killed Jonbenét Ramsey or why. People have speculated whether an intruder had killed Jonbenét Ramsey, or someone within the family. With all of the evidence that was presented in The Case of: Jonbenét Ramsey, it could be inferred that the person who killed Jonbenét
The police investigating the crime said that the way the body was placed seemed like a cover-up for the crime, but could have also been moved by the father who found and picked her up, and that the ransom note was staged by Patsy Ramsey. In 2002 the DA reinvestigated the case, this time they looked at people that were not related to JonBenet as suspects. In 2008 the DA sent out an apology letter to the ramseys declaring that the family was completely cleared from the crime, and in February 2009 the Boulder Police reopened the investigation. There are two main theories about who killed JonBenet Ramsey one of the two is the Intruder Theory, Smits Theory was a theory that someone had broken into the ramseys
Based on the information obtained during the case review, it would seem that as most of society, I feel compelled to believe that the parents had some hand in the death of JonBenét. The lengthy ransom letter which indicates the writer was comfortable in the residence in taking the time to pen such a long and deliberate letter after starting over twice. Likewise, the unanimous agreement among the handwriting experts that Patsy Ramsey in “high probability contributed to the writing of the ransom letter” (KILLER REVEALED "Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey?", 2015). A second point is the transfer of fiber evidence from the mother’s jacket to the rope, duct tape, and the blanket found on JonBenét body, although the mother alleged she redressed in
Perhaps even a family member of JonBenét Ramsey. It was around 5:00 a.m. on December 26, 1998, and Patsy walks down the stairs. She finds a two and a half page ransom note lying on one of the last three steps. This note is written with one of Patsy's notepads and a writing utensil in the home.
Semen was found in JonBenet’s underwear and it was said that it was from the father or even 9-year-old Burke. When Patsy called 911 to report a missing persons report for JonBenet, there were voices heard in the background of the phone call found by in. A deep voice, believed to be the voice of John Ramsey, says, “We’re not speaking to you.” Patsy is then heard asking, “What did you do?! Help me, Jesus!”
When I looked at the handwriting of the ransom note and the handwriting of Patsy, there are some similarities, within the letters. Any individual can make their handwriting look sloppy, but there will always be similarities. I believe Patsy could have been irritated by something that JonBent could have possibly done, which caused Patsy to hit JonBent with a forceful object that could have caused serious brain damage. Instead of taking JonBent to the hospital she decide to stage a crime sense of a kidnap and murder instead. If Patsy did murder her daughter she got away with the
Only eight hours after she had been reported missing, John Ramsey discovered his daughter wrapped up in her favorite blanket in the furthest corner of his basement (“JonBenet”). She
The girls body however was found in the basement later that afternoon. JonBenet’s skull had been fractured, she had been sexually assaulted, she was strangled with a garrote made from one of patsy’s paintbrushes. The police suspected that the ransom note had been written by Patsy and the ransom note and the appearance of the child’s body had been staged by her parents in order to cover up the crime. Apparently JonBenet's official cause of death was asphyxia a by strangulation. Her death was classified as
Along with the dead body left in the Ramseys basement there was a mysterious note left by the killer of Jonbenet. The note that was left shows that only either the Ramseys or someone close to their family could have done the crime (Osbourne 42). In the note it states Mr. Ramsey’s financial status, demanding $118,00 from the Ramseys. Investigators have been trying to link specific evidence to the note such as fingerprints and writing samples but no results are coming up.
For over 20 years, millions of Americans have been following the twisted and unsolved murder of six-year old beauty contestant JonBenet Ramsey. Christmas of 1996 brought terror to Boulder, Colorado as the world watched the crime scene unfold as Little Miss Colorado was found strangled in the basement of her family’s home. Suspicions have ranged from her parents, John and Patsy Ramsey, to the outrageous, Santa Claus.
JonBenéts death infatuated a nation. The idea that a wealthy family could murder their child who was a pageant queen.
