Chris Kyle: A True Hero In American Sniper

What do you think the definition of a hero is? Someone who saves a person from a burning building? Someone who loses his or her live for someone else’s life? Someone who robs a bank? To me, heroism is someone who performs actions to benefit someone else.

His story was adapted in an Eastwood film which portrays him as an individual who decided to join the military as a response to prevent terrorists from coming to the United States, and causing harm to the American people. Eastwood uses the film as a catalysis to push out American ideals to promote pro-war propaganda. In the film, Kyle has a childhood flashback at his family dinner table where Kyle’s father lectures, “There are only three types of people in this world; sheep, wolves, and sheepdogs.” The sheepdogs are the ones who would protect against the chaos that comes from the wolves. American actor Christopher Reeve once quoted, "A hero is an ordinary individual who finds strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles" (Brainy Quote). Not only did he play a hero as Superman, he truly became one in his personal life. After becoming a quadriplegic Reeve became a spokesperson for people with spinal cord injuries. A hero is a person one admires because of the qualities and selfless actions they exemplify to overcome adversity and inspire others. Heroism is apparent in literature, history, and in our own life.

Selfless Heroes The word “hero” creates powerful emotional responses, and in today’s society heroes are needed now more than ever. Heroes are needed for inspiration and to make a difference in the world. When thinking of a hero, some may envision imaginary figures such as Superman or Wonder Woman, while others may think of an individual who has helped them through a hard time. Today, the individuals that people look up to may not classify as true heroes, and society needs a better understanding of what truly makes a hero.

A hero, “A mythological or legendary figure often of divine descent endowed with great strength or ability.” This is what Merriam Webster’s Dictionary says about heroes. But it is not true. A hero can be anyone, bulky and scrawny, short or tall, swift or sluggish.

“A true hero isn’t measured by the size of their strength, but by the strength of their heart.” A hero is a person that does something to help or they can also save someone 's life. One example of, being a hero is Darry because he takes care of Ponyboy and Sodapop. Another example, of being a hero is Johnny when he saved Ponyboy and the little kids. A further example, of being a hero is Ponyboy when he also saved the little kid’s life and when he wanted to take the blame for killing Bob.

The theme of the short story “The Sniper” by Liam O’Flaherty, is about the total disregard for human life after being trained to kill as his job duties in the military. This story shows a very dark and hatred plot, including the sniper shooting two people without hesitation. For example, after the old woman comes around the corner and talks to the turret operator, “The turret opened. A man´s head and shoulders appeared, looking towards the sniper. The sniper raised his rifle and fired.

A hero is anyone who makes the right decision to sacrifice for a person in need. For example, without heroes like firemen, wildfires and house fires would spread across the nation, costing lives and loss of worldly possessions. Heroes are seen throughout television shows and in literature. Many heroic acts range from saving the damsel in distress to slaying the dragon. Heroes are those who are held to a high standard for saving and changing the world no matter how small or large heroic action they perform. Probably when asked who is a hero, answers can vary from individuals in one’s personal life like parents to fictional characters such as Superman. However, in the fictional world of heroes, it is more common to view characters like Batman, Superman, or Spiderman as real heroes who fight dangerous villains to ultimately save the world.

In Spider-Man, Peter Parker was the official protagonist (hero) who got bitten by a spider and then later realized he had supernatural abilities. What made Peter a hero is that he chose to use his supernatural abilities to save the lives of people in danger in New York City. Spider-Man’s official adventure began when he came face to face with the Green Goblin who was the official antagonist. The Green Goblin attacks Oscorp’s annual Unity Day and Spider-Man’s main goal will to try to get everyone to safety. The Green Goblin kills the Board of Directors and Spider-Man saves the life of his crush, Mary Jane, and many other people.

As a result Spidermans acts and decisions is what make good qualities of being a hero. There are many heroes out there, But SpiderMan is a unique hero because he is strong intelligent and is courageous. A hero isn 't someone who give up easily,but moreless a hero is someone who stands up for what is right. LIfe is rough for everyone and even for SpiderMan, but getting through those tough strategies and decisions in life helps develop anyone to become stronger. Being a hero is hard enough for Spider Man, Because of his enemies, but despite what his enemies will do, Spider Man will find a way to make sure that his people come first and will protect them at all costs.
