1.0 WHAT IS COMMUNITY SERVICE
Through community service, the community benefits, people are able to volunteer and give back to the community and make it a better place for everyone to be a part of. Services are offered and with the services a certain cause is worked upon.
For example:
• Planting trees in an area where may have been cut down, this is helping improve the environment but also helping the community at large.
• Another example is volunteering at a local hospital where there aren’t many staff to run the hospital.
• Providing education services like volunteering to teach English at a local school.
• Helping the elderly at a senior citizen home with their meal serving and doctor’s appointments.
• Proving help for low income citizens by collecting donations such as clothes, books and food.
All these services are done out of the goodness of oneself without any monetary benefit or any payback. There are many ways in which one can undertake community service, above are just a few examples. There are many places where you can find the opportunity to be a part of community service; most of the times mosques and churches have programs one can join, in addition schools and government agencies have areas where you can partake. The school works with many institutions where students can interact and offer services of help to these institutions. It enables students to see what goes on in many parts of the country and opens their eyes to a reality that they may not have even known existed. Students are allowed to integrate into the community and give back in whatever way that they can. It is an opportunity that all students undertake – an opportunity because they are able to continue this notion even when they are alumni of
The bulk of my service hours comes from my position as a CIT at Pilgrim Day Camp, which did not qualify as community service. I would like to emphasize that I was not given any money for my work at the camp. I would define community service as voluntary work intended to help people in a particular area. Being a CIT was completely voluntary, and my work at the camp benefitted the campers and their parents. By being a role model for young children, I positively impacted their lives and guided them through camp activities.
I mostly practice my service to my community at my local church. During the holiday season I spend my free time packing food for families who are not able to go out and buy what they need for a satisfying meal. Also a couple of weeks ago I learned that I can volunteer at my church on Saturday mornings to work in the pantry to distribute food. Service is important because it influences happiness and good nature to your community. Service also utilizes the other three pillars by providing perfect opportunities to character by spending free time to help others, scholarship by the effort that you are putting into the work, and leadership by motivating and helping those working with you and encouraging others to volunteer as well.
That was possibly my first ever type of community service. Now that I’m in high school I’ve moved onto bigger and more impactful services. I volunteer at a local bodega in my community. It may not seem like much but trust me, it is. I work at the bodega as a cashier and I work receiving no compensation.
Community work is an essential part of social work. It has been defined as “the process of assisting people to improve their own communities by undertaking autonomous collective actions. ”(Twelvetrees, 2001) It entails getting the support of communities members to undertake projects or tasks that would be beneficial for the community. In community work, workers “operate as facilitators with people in relation to what those people decide to become involved with.
My reasons for wanting to serve Peace Corps Volunteer are personal and intellectual. First of all, I want to share the knowledge I have acquired throughout my life by making myself available and becoming part of something bigger. I’ve had the opportunity to attend school and I recently completed a graduate degree; this has been a great accomplishment not only for me, but for my family as well. Therefore serving as a PCV would be a rewarding experience not only for me but for those who have supported me throughout my life, since I will contribute towards a bigger cause by helping to improve the lifestyle of less fortunate people. After successfully receiving a graduate degree, it is expected that I find a permanent job related to my field of
Introduction Community work models are valuable for directing practitioners’ work. Nonetheless, knowledge of practical community work models is still inadequate. Scholars and practitioners consider technical knowledge of practical community work to be derived from actual cases. This knowledge allows community workers to choose the best course of action in real-life situations (Henderson and Thomas, 2012; Hardcastle et al., 2011). Furthermore, model development is important for comprehensive knowledge guidance, specifically for helping workers accurately play their role in terms of practical skills (Harris, 2009; Henderson and Thomas, 2012; Homan, 2011).
McCauley 1 The American Society is the keystone to a successful and healthy community. As society is imperative to everything we do, it is the American people's responsibility, our civic duty, to be a responsible member of American Society. What makes a civic member of society? Is it how the people act, how they react to each other and respond?
What is life’s most extraordinary pleasure? For many, money, power, and/or fame come to mind, and the idea of helping others does not register. It seems for every person eager to help, there are millions ready to hurt or disregard those in need. Nevertheless, the world is not beyond salvation; there are numerous individuals willing to give their time and labor to transform the world into a better place for all. These devoted people are volunteers, and they believe life’s most extraordinary pleasure is the joy of helping others.
Volunteering should be done intrinsically. Many students find community service so difficult, time consuming, and not enjoyable. Therefore, they tend to only complete the required hours without any essential effort. To call mandatory community service 'volunteering ' is a problem because then we begin to confuse the distinction between an activity that is willingly done and something that is obligatory and perhaps not always rewarding. Volunteering should be something you choose to do because you want to do it, not because somebody made you do it.

Furthermore, 100 community service hours should be a requirement for high school graduation. Since many teens already have a lot on their plates with homework and extracurricular activities they often put themselves first above helping others. Also, many teens spend their weekends locked up in their rooms or just watching tv all day, they could do something very productive with the time they are wasting. With this in mind, community service not only helps your community but it helps get students out of their houses.
The object of this school is, for students to finish college and go back to their native cities to help and be the leaders of their towns. Many of the former students have gone back to the school to
Community service does not only have a profound impact on our community, but the impact it has on the individual people is even greater. The concept of community service has always been something that I grew up with, and now that I am older I better understand how important community service is for society. I have participated in community service activities. Starting in elementary school, I helped feed the homeless and rescue animals. Even with my wide range of volunteer experience, it was difficult to find an activity that would be meaningful and fulfill my thirty-hour obligation for my senior project.
Volunteering is a way of helping others. It is giving a person 's time and ability to help someone who may be in need of help. Not only does volunteering help others, but what they may not know is that it can be helpful to themselves. It is a great way for someone to interact with others in their community. It gives someone that time to themselves while also creating bonds when they are doing the greater good.
