Mahatma Gandhi Heroism

No matter who someone's hero is one thing stays the same. A hero is someone that has strived to help out of their own will. Anyone could be a hero. However not everyone is a hero. Being a hero takes courage.

How Effective was Gandhi? “It was inevitable that Britain should some day refuse to rule India and that India should some day refuse to be ruled.” Mahatma Gandhi is known as one of the 20th century’s most influential people and is seen in India as the Father of the Nation. How he achieved such status was through his attempts at protest, negotiation and non cooperation through his philosophy of Satyagraha to better the lives of the Indian people. While in the end his policies got the job done, one can ask if unwavering nonviolence really was the most effective way at ousting the British from India.

Martin Luther King has changed America tremendously, wouldn’t you agree? King has made very powerful writings but the two main speeches are “I Have a Dream” and “Letter From Birmingham Jail”. There is many of the three rhetorical appeals which are Pathos, Logos, and Ethos. There was one simple thing in both species, King wanted freedom but unfortunately he did not get that. He tried really hard because segregation got way out of control.

Gandhi convinced the Indians that he could get them their independence. They would get their independence long as they didn't cooperate. Gandhi used a couple of lines from the Declaration of Independence that in other words meant, “if a law is unjust, then it is not a law.” Gandhi also told his people that in order to pretext they had to be willing to get jail time. Gandhi's methods worked because both his people and him were uncooperative.

Martin Luther King Jr. inexplicably opened the eyes of Americans across the nation with his role in the movement and his use of resonating imagery, excellent emotional appeal, powerful voice, and evocation of logic in his “I Have a Dream” speech. With such an enthralling rhetoric he gained a vast amount of support and exponentially increased the pride in standing up for what’s righteous and just. Exemplifying the throes of being a colored person, King evoked sympathy whilst simultaneously applying the valid logic that no human should be subjected to lesser standards. His rhetoric wholly changed American history that day and thus conveyed his ability to maintain equanimity throughout all of the

Even after his death King’s speech is commemorated and lies as a basis for the American society. King taught the people that the color of their skin does not define them nor should they be limited by it. It was not until 1964 when the United States abolished segregation. This was a major move forward for the American nation that would eventually lead to many African Americans to hold positions in government office and eventually to have an African American

According to Merriam-webster.com (2014), A Hero "is a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities". A person can rarely be called a hero if they are not brave. If this person is not able to speak up or act in a way that backs his cause or defends it because of fear of the consequences then they are not considered a hero since they lack valor. A hero to me is someone who recognizes the consequences of their heroic actions and is committed to continuing their cause until the truth comes out even if it means suffrage to them since that displays how truly courageous they are. Merriam-webster.com (2014) states that initially the word hero derives from both the Greek as "hērōs" or Latin "Heros"; it was first used in the 14th century.

Heroes in our society are revered and respected as Joseph Campbell reminds us: “A hero is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself” (Joseph Campbell). Heroes exist in all societies and throughout history. Maybe they are not always on the news or from the movies, but their words and their actions never fail to resonate across their feats. A hero gives of himself and dedicates himself to causes which better others and their society unlike individuals who are self serving, greedy, and cruel.

Martin Luther King Jr., a minister and social activist, led the Civil Rights Movement in the United States from the mid-1950s until his death by assassination in 1968. He was an advocate for equality between all races and a civil and economic rights Activist. Because of his leadership, bravery and sacrifice to make the world a better place, Martin Luther King was awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize. His incredible public speaking skills and ability to properly get his message across can clearly be scene throughout the speech. Rather, he had a huge community of African-Americans on his side taking part in non-violent protests. Although not an ally, Gandhi was a major mentor to Martin Luther King Jr. Gandhi was very inspirational to King because of his non-violent protest and it was what influenced King to go visit India. King stated, “There is another way... as modern as Gandhi saying through Thoreau, that 'non‑cooperation with evil is as much a moral obligation as is cooperation with good” (Raab).

Mohandas Gandhi was a “key figure in the Indian struggle for independence.” He worked to use nonviolent ways to fight for equality and change in India. Gandhi was able to unite many groups and “inspired the common people of India to work for change.” In addition, Gandhi advocated using a more traditional approach (Wadley 202). Although Mohandas Gandhi 's satyagraha campaign caused violence, his advocacy for those who were discriminated against in Indian society led to the initial unification of India to gain independence from Great Britain.

Martin Luther King Jr. was one of the most influential leaders of his time and played a crucial role in the African-American Civil Rights movement. Luther was a charismatic leader who took a firm stand against the oppressive and racist regime of the United States (US), devoting much of his life towards uniting the segregated African-American community of the US. His efforts to consolidate and harmonise the US into one country for all is reflected in many of his writings and speeches spanning his career. As a leader of his people, King took the stand to take radical measures to overcome the false promises of the sovereign government that had been addressing the issues of racial segregation through unimplemented transparent laws that did nothing to change the grim realities of the society. Hence, King’s works always had the recurring theme of the unity and strength of combined willpower.

Martin Luther King’s views helped create a better environment for every race and I really think his political views and strategies were more efficient than Malcolm

Gandhi always made sure that they kept the movement nonviolent. They had meetings on how they were going to approach the movement, they were organized and had a plan. Gandhi got many of his ideas and principles through reading the bible, reading the Bhagavad Gita, and writers like Henry David Thoreau. Gandhi and the Indian people created some dilemmas to throw the British government off balance. Gandhi told the Indian people to boycott all British goods and only buy Indian goods.

Mahatma Gandhi forms a non-violent civil disobedience and a primary leader of India’s independence movement. He was not a leader by default. No one went up to him and said you are now the boss of this company and you must be a leader to the other employees. Gandhi was a self-acclaimed leader who started from the bottom and became someone thousands of people looked up to. Even to this day, people still view Gandhi as a leader and someone to look up to.
