Memorial day, an emotional road for many. This event occurs on every last Monday of May. Memorial is to remember veterans who have been injured or killed in a war. Memorial Day is one of the two days every year used to honor our veterans. Although, the earliest history of Memorial day is somewhat unknown. From a personal experience of my grandfather who was in a grim war was left with horrid memories. Sadly, many Americans do not respect the morals of this sad day. To begin, Memorial day began in 1869, on May 5. It was first called Decoration Day, but was later changed in 1967, to Memorial Day. This event is to remember those who died in service. Nevertheless, this day is hard to date back but, it still has caused a big impact in our history. …show more content…
The South refused to acknowledge this day, as they found they should be able to honor the veterans on separate days. Their thoughts later changed after the war. Although, the North immediately accepted Memorial day. Many cities today have a parade, marching soldiers fill the streets with firefighters, cops, and other service jobs. Thousands of U.S. Citizens do crowd the streets, holding the American flag, singing songs, and giving out flowers. Mainly, on every year I call my grandfather, we talk about the war he endured and how is day is going. One thing my grandpa says every year is “Don't take anything for granted, everything can change in a blink of an eye” Though, he now has metal everywhere in his legs and gets very clumsy he is still extremely funny. Sadly, since America’s freedom is vast, many Americans forget some of the everyday values. In conclusion, Memorial Day should be a day for all. Many military veterans would like Memorial Day to be a day of recognition and gratitude for all their work. As Memorial Day approaches us,it will be contemplated by many. Remember to respect the men and women who fight for your country, as you might encounter or be a military veteran
I believe he deserves this holiday for many reason. First, he was brave, his braveness caused the rest of the army to stand with him. Second, Thomas was considered to be a war hero. Lastly, he was one of the most famous Confederate Generals. These are just some of the reasons I think Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson deserves his own holiday.

We celebrate Veterans Day every year on November 11th to honor the men and women who served and is still serving our wonderful country. We shouldn’t honor a veteran just once a year but everyday because they are protecting us everyday. When we say the pledge in the mornings we should be thinking about our veterans and what they did for us. Many veterans we get to still celebrate with and some were not so lucky and didn’t make it back home to their loved ones.
I wod like to thank all the veterans that died in the war felid for are freedom.
Former President of the United States of America, Ronald Reagan in his address at Arlington National Cemetery on Veterans Day 1985 testifies his views and respect for the Veterans who have served to protect the United States. Reagan’s aspiration in his address is to convey the standard that Veterans deserve. Through the speech, Reagan embraces a solemn tone to reveal that though he holds a high position his nobility is to be put aside to amplify the sacrifices the Veterans have made for the country and its population. Reagan reveals through his address at the Arlington Cemetery that those who served for the freedom of the United States deserve respect at all times, not just on one day of the year.
We have memorial day to remember all the people who died for our country freedom. It was officially was declared on may 5, 1886 by General John Logan. On the first decoration day General James Garfield made a speech at Arlington National cemetery, and 5,000 participants decorated the graves of 20,000 union and confederate soldiers buried there. Memorial day also became more popular after World War I and World War II. There were more American lives lost during the Civil War then the two World Wars combined.
In our modern culture we memorialize a lot of things. Things like the achievements of great thinkers from the past such as Martin Luther King Jr. and the founding fathers. Other things that we memorialize are the wars that we have fought in the past, honoring those that fought in them. All of the previously mentioned things are put on a wall, given their own special place, or they have a statue made of them. These things are great and they show that those people did a great thing in their life but let’s be honest, we need to cut it back a little bit.
I myself have to think sometimes about what other people might be going through, even though we have freedom over here, there are many wars happening and many people losing their lives. To me, a veteran is a hero in disguise that live among ordinary people and live ordinary lives. Veterans are people who make sure that when we die, we will die in peace on the very soil where they have walked. They dedicate themselves to defend a nation
Veterans day was originally called Armistice day. It got that name at the end of World War One. But the name changed to Veterans day some time after World War Two, to honor veterans from both wars. Every year, we celebrate Veterans day.
I have a few people in my family that are veterans. Their service means alot to me. I admire them for their for their bravery and loyalty to their country. They inspire me in many ways such as to be brave even if the situation requires only a small act of bravery, and to speak out against something I know is wrong. To me veterans need to be honored every day for their service.
Ninety-eight years ago, on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, an armistice was declared between Germany and the Allied Nations in World War I. One year later, it was celebrated as Armistice Day to honor the cause of world peace. After World War II and the Korean War, it was renamed Veterans Day, dedicated to American veterans from any war. The transition from Armistice Day to Veterans Day seems appropriate, for we would not have peace if we did not have veterans. But the implication that veterans are mere preservers of order is a vast misrepresentation; they do much more for our nation.
Hope Winston Churchill said “The future is unknowable, but the past should give us hope”. Churchill understood that without the wars, struggles, and hardships that America has been through in the past, we wouldn 't be living in this free country with the hopes that we have today. Without the patriots we had back then, we wouldn 't be here today. On July 4th 1776 America gained its Independence from England. Everyday since then thousands of soldiers risk their lives for our freedom and to secure this independance.
There are a lot of important reasons why we should honor our veterans. One of the biggest reasons we should honor our veterans is because they risked their lives to protect ours. In some of the scariest, if not the scariest, situations in the world, thousands of soldiers bravely fought for our freedom. Even though they knew the risks, they still decided to go into the military. To this day, many veterans still face side effects of war.
When you look back on American history, you see a long list of iconic battles that have shaped our history as a nation. One that stands apart from all other occurred on June 6th, 1944, D-Day. D-Day is marked by all Americans as a day of triumph, victory, and heroics. It took years of preparation and training to perfect what came to be a turning point in WWII. D-Day penetrated the western front and ultimately ended up being our most essential move to winning the second war of the world.
Armistice Day was primarily a day set aside to honor veterans of World War 1, but in 1954, after World War 2 had required the greatest sacrifice of soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen in the Nation’s history; after American forces fought in Korea, the 83rd congress, at the urging of the veterans service organizations, amended the Act of 1938, by striking out the word “Armistice” and inserting in its place the word “Veterans”. With the approval of this legislation on June 1,1954, November 11th became a day to honor American veterans of all
