In Arthur Miller’s The Crucible, the antagonist, Abigail Williams, sparks the 1692 witch trails in Salem, Massachusetts. Early on, Abigail has an affair with John Proctor, a local farmer. At first, Abigail had once worked for Proctor as a house maid, but when Proctor’s wife, Elizabeth, discovered that her husband was having an affair with the maid, she fires Abigail. In the middle of seeking revenge on Elizabeth for coming between her and Proctor’s “love”, Abigail also brings the entire village down as well. Miller demonstrates that Abigail William’s flaws- mendacity, lust, and spitefulness- led her to be most responsible for the tragedy of the witch-hunt in Salem.

In The Crucible, Abigail accuses more than half the town of witchcraft to cover up her affair with a married man, John Proctor. She lies and accuses people to prevent being charged with attempted murder against Elizabeth Proctor, John Proctor’s wife, because of jealousy. Abigail who is very similar to Joseph McCarthy, she starts to accuse people who share a glance towards her direction or even people that she dislikes or offended her in some way. The people of the town grow intimidated or fearful of her because she throws false accusations and evidence towards anyone who may have upset her. In the playwright, The Crucible, it is shown that there are accusations thrown at people, but has no supported evidence for why some people of the town

Arthur Miller 's historical play, The Crucible, portrays the historical events of the Salem witch trials through a crowd of unforgettable characters. Fear drives these Puritans to reveal their true emotions while facing their accusers in the bias courts before merciless judges. While eventually all the people of Salem become subject to this madness, two women stand out above the rest. Revenge and shame live in the heart of the teenage adulteress, Abigail Williams, while truth and righteousness reside in the soul of Elizabeth Proctor, John Proctor 's faithful wife. Although they both heighten the tension and suspense of the play, Abigail William 's and Elizabeth Proctor 's differences lead to turmoil due to their desire for one man 's love.

The general argument made by Jamie Dailey in “Modern- day Witch Hunts: Broadly targeting the Muslim Community is antithetical to America’s founding ideas” is that after the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 the Muslim Community seems to be targeted. More specifically, Dailey is stating that the irrational fear and paranoia present in American Society causes racial and religious discrimination of the Muslims. Dailey writes about mosques, which are Islamic places of worship, and how they have been recently targeted. Dailey writes, “ In Glendale, Arizona, a bottle filled with acid was thrown at a mosque while mosque officials stood nearby. In Bridgeport, Connecticut, protestors picketed a mosque celebrating Ramadan and shouted slurs”

Throughout The Crucible by Arthur Miller is set around the time of the Salem witch trials. In the story, Abigail Williams and her friends are the ones at fault but there was another character who shares the fault; John Proctor could be cited as one of the reasons why. John Proctor had the lead as a protagonist trying to prove Abigail wrong. Little did John realize was that his influence wasn’t always positive, especially with Abigail. John could be seen at fault due to his affair with Abigail, attempting to state Abigail and her friends as liars, and how he impacted others with trying to tell the truth.

Is the difference between right and wrong clear? The answer to this question is yes, and no. Depending on the situation, the answer can be a blur and cannot be determined very easily. For example, look at the incident called “The Salem Witch Trials”, and “The Blacklisting of Americans during the 1950s”. During the time of early European settlers in America, people were very religious.

Often times the 9/11 attacks is said to have united the Americans, but many Muslim/Arab Americans who lived in the US for many years were not allowed to share the same grief many Americans did, but instead, many Muslim Americans were looked upon as terrorists

In The Crucible written by Arthur Miller, the author proves that Abigail Williams was responsible for the injustice and chaos in Salem during the witchcraft trials which occurred in the year of 1692. Many people perished because they were accused of being witches and either hung or pressed to death with stones. Abigail was said to be one of the ring leaders because of her initial accusation against Elizabeth Proctor. While her accusations were made out of spite the fear she created by the lies was used by the townspeople to justify their own prejudices of people who were different than them. Abigail was a very jealous and vengeful young woman who wanted the affections of John Proctor all to herself and the only way to overcome this obstacle was to get rid of his wife, Elizabeth, by accusing her of witchcraft.

Suspected terrorists often enter the country legally without prior knowledge they are being watched, and once they enter they are arrested, therefore, the arrest is seen as discrimination against immigrants. The act has been vital in luring terrorists into the country for their own arrest, although it is often mistaken as discrimination, the act is simply protecting this

Arthur Miller is considered one of the greatest play writers of the 20th century and his work continues to be re-staged and adapted for future generations. Because jealously leads to corruption and evil practices, Abigail Williams accuses Elizabeth Proctor of witchcraft to get attention and get closer to John Proctor and in the end he gets hanged. Abigail Williams was always fond of john proctor and had sexual relations with him in the past which damaged his marriage with Elizabeth, and ultimately had to be removed from the house. Abigail’s true motive of stirring up false accusations and chaos in Salem

Abigail Williams is to Blame In The Crucible by Arthur Miller, Abigail Williams, an unmarried orphan in the Massachusetts town of Salem, increasingly grows more jealousy of Elizabeth Proctor intensifies in attempt to realize her desire for Elizabeth's husband John Proctor. Her ambition for vengeance only grows stronger, and her selfishness escalates. She repeatedly lies to save herself by denying her involvement in witchcraft. In order to save herself she accuses the innocent, without any sense of ethical violation. Abigail proves to be a selfish antagonist in The Crucible that shows no sense of right and wrong.

The Crucible was created in 1953, which shows the story of the Salem witch trials. This event occurred in Massachusetts Bay around the time1692-1693. The plot of the crucible started when a group of girl claimed that they were dancing in the forest with Tituba (slave). The girls were caught by Reverend Parris (Minister). Parris’s daughter (Betty), ends up falling in a coma but we later found out that she was faking being in a coma because she was scared that she going to get in trouble.

The threat of Communism and the Red Scare put fear of group mentality into many people during the late 1940-50s.   The authors of 1984 and The Crucible used their respective works to comment on the social injustice going on in their own lives, which connects to injustice the exists throughout time anywhere in the world. Miller wrote his play, set in 1692, about Puritans and the Salem witch trials because he believed that, similar to his trial for HUAC in the 1950s, the trials in Salem were caused by false accusations and mass hysteria led by powerful individuals. In 1984, Orwell creates a world in the near future that shows group mentality and its threat to conform society with the government.
