From stair-climbing wheelchair to prosthetic mind-controlled limbs - the rate of innovative products developed for the less fortunate people in the society is increasing. My long-term goal is to inspire the next generation of researchers to develop computational methods and optimization techniques that would help in creating products to aid differently abled people. I believe that making small changes to the design conceptualization methods will have a great impact on the efficient design of products. I believe that choosing a career as a professor will be a cardinal step towards reaching my long-term goal. Being a professor is the best platform for developing knowledge on computational design by doing what I'm truly excited, namely, learning …show more content…
After exploring the different wings of Mechanical Engineering, graduate education would be the right place to work and explore my interest specific to Mechanical Designing. A doctoral degree will not only enable me to venture out to different domains in design and analysis but also help to develop myself as an independent individual with a sense of responsibility. I’ll also get to work with like-minded people in a competitive environment conducive to constructive learning. Graduate school also offers positions for research and teaching assistantships which would prepare me for a career in teaching. The research internship at the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore has taught me that leaving the comforts of the home country and immersing myself in an entirely new culture will push the boundaries of my capabilities. This experience has cemented my aspirations to pursue graduate studies abroad and seek a career in research. A challenging career in research will bring-in problems involving intense intellectual thinking and such a career will be pivotal in unearthing the best out of
The mission of ADA is to “ensure that people with disabilities receive the custom adaptations they need to live healthy lives and fulfill their developmental, academic, and vocational potential, and to promote education, inclusion, widespread replication, and social justice.” The founder, staff and equipment fabricators of ADA continually stress that their mission is not about “products” nor is it exclusively for New Yorkers. Their mission is about the “process” of adaptive making and the shared effort of a global community in order to provide customizable, low tech, affordable, inclusive, fun, and eco-friendly adaptations to people of all ages and
I remember the talks my mother gave me each morning in our 1997 Aerostar van, which my mother had cleaned houses to pay for. She always instilled that we were fortunate, even if we were struggling, we were fortunate. She had jobs, she had her health, we were a family, and for those things we would always have to be grateful. My love for academics immediately set me apart from the world in which I had always been an insider. I was immediately labeled differently from my family members outside of my immediate family, who felt that academic pursuits were a waste of time and money.
Since I am a rising freshman, I began to do research in different fields like Computer Science, Bio-Statistics, and Bio-Mathematics. This has brought me countless of opportunities, including a research program for undergraduates this summer in North Carolina State University. They conferred me the opportunity because of my research work during the last six semesters and two summers. I presented all of those investigations at symposiums in Puerto Rico and the United States on several occasions. Unfortunately, the program was discontinued due to lack of funds, but it is definitely an activity I want to take part since my freshman year in college.
The NOVA documentary “Naturally Obsessed: the making of a scientist” shows the lives of three post-graduate students at Columbia University and their experiments and struggles they faced in the lab and the impact their research had on their mental and social health. One of the students, Rob, has aspirations to become like his mentor Larry and have his own lab and students. Personally, I relate more with Rob than the other students in the film because like him, I tend to look up to the people I admire. Additionally, Rob and I share a steadfast resolve when doing work regardless of the difficulty. Although Rob has been unsuccessful for two and a half years in producing successful results, he is still determined to finish his research and earn
After this research experience, I hope to have a better understanding of my place in the world of
Where some people see rubbish, Rosie Revere sees inspiration. Alone in her room at night, shy Rosie constructs great inventions from odds and ends. Hot dog dispensers, helium pants, python-repelling cheese hats. Rosie’s gizmos would astound—if she ever let anyone see them.
One of the obstacles at nationals was a door with a simple two-pronged latch. Instead of using the conventional method of maneuvering a probe to lift the door latch, we created a motor powered latch opener out of Legos to open the latch as we approached it. Hundreds of students learned how to make and operate an underwater ROV over the course of that competition, but we were the only ones who properly designed and implemented a motor powered latch opener. Skills can be taught quickly, but a liberally educated mind, a creative mind, sets one apart and has infinite value. What separates me from my contemporaries is that, because of my course work in both the sciences and the liberal arts, I am able to see problems within a broader context and consequently provide unique solutions to the problems of today.
The design challenges presented by my dream kindle my passion for engineering. As a female engineer, I anticipate encountering numerous obstacles in the pursuit of my career. Despite my passion and ambition, some will view me as less capable than a man. I refuse to let these obstructions crush my ambition.
By taking Cell Biology, it not only will provide me with a base level understanding of the foundation of life, but it will also teach me how to further analyze that information and project it into more complex concepts in my world. My major career goal is to be a physician, but before I can accomplish that I have to go to med school, and, without the core fundamentals of life that is taught in Cell Biology, I would have a hard time fully grasping the “why” and “how” of further and more complex processes and concepts that I will have to learn. When it comes to Science courses, my strengths include being detailed oriented, being well organized with assignments and notes, having a photographic memory that easily recalls information once studied, and putting in a great amount of effort because I have a true love for science. However, I am not perfect and I have weaknesses well, which include not always asking for help when I need it, getting hard on myself for not doing well/understanding a certain concept, and waiting for the last couple of days before a test to study. When preparing/studying for an exam, I have a routine that I typically follow.
Considering your lifetime goals, discuss how your current and future academic and extra-curricular activities might help you achieve your goals. My lifetime goal is to travel the world and study how different cultures influence the business of fashion. I believe through exploring varying cultures and exchanges, I will be an asset to stores, magazines, or film productions. As excited as I am to see the beauty, learn about the history and study the design, I am really eager to learn how to run a successful business.
Most people look forward to college to explore themselves and have a chance to experience freedom for the first time in their lives. They look forward to the Saturday night football games and meeting the roommate who will eventually become their best friend. Although I look forward to these aspects of college, my goal for my college experience is unique. I want to use the knowledge I learn, and experiences gained through internships, honors programs, and other programs to make an impact on the World and unite people globally. I want to use my college education to help impoverished areas, third world countries, and attempt to connect people of different races and cultures.
College was always one of my long term goals as I continued with my education. Throughout the years I began to work harder and harder so I could secure my future. I knew that getting to college would not be easy. I am about to embark on a four year journey in one of the hardest fields to pursue. I will continue my education as a Nursing major at a four year university.
At this time in our very lives we are planning for the future and making a ladder for ourselves of goals to reach. As you climb higher on the ladder you find yourselves aspiring to take actions that may be more difficult than we imagined. This is just the beginning and we do not give up. As the years come faster I made a list of the things that I am planning on persuing. My major career goal is to go into buisness, and within the buisness industry I want to become a Human Resources Manager.
Pranav Patil Computer Science STATEMENT OF PURPOSE INTRO I believe that the ability to invent, innovate and discover is what has propelled man to the echelons of success. Throughout my life, I have been driven by the desire to “create”, a capability that transcends the passive acquisition of knowledge. It is always the unknown path that has enthralled me more than known terrain. In a world where everything from fighter jets to elevators, interactive graphic displays to digital watches, is driven by computers, I found it difficult not to get fascinated by the technology involved.
Right from my childhood days, I was always eager to know how things work in surroundings. When I was given toys, I hardly played with them rather tried to dismantle it and try to know the mechanism running it. During school days, I have participated in many science exhibitions which further motivated me towards taking my knowledge and experience onto a higher and advanced level. With this desire and curiosity to understand machines and mechanisms, I chose to complete my graduation in Mechanical Engineering.
