Over the past decade, the healthcare profession has changed tremendously with the support of the evidence-based nursing practice. The evidence-based nursing practice is a multidisciplinary approach which involves the integration of a problem-solving that lead to the context of patient caring, patient’s data analysis, clinical experience, and expertise, and patients’ preferences and values. The fundamental function of the evidence-based nursing practice is to reduce or eliminate the uncertain in the clinical care, in order to achieve efficient and effective service delivery. The fundamental concept of evidence-based nursing practice methodology can be effective in the application of practice guideline. In the effectiveness and the efficiency
I like the Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence-Based Practice (JHNEBP) model, because it is a powerful problem-solving approach to clinical decision-making, and it has user-friendly tools to guide. According to Zaccagnini & White, “it is designed specifically to meet the needs of the practicing nurse and uses a three-step process called PET: practice question, evidence, and translation” (2015). The goal of this model is to ensure that the latest research findings and best practices are quickly and appropriately incorporated into patient care. Great choice!
he Johns Hopkins Nursing Evidence-Based Practice Model (JHNEBP) is a model that is utilize as an outline to aid in the synthesis and translation of evidence into practice (Baker, 2008). The JHNEBP is made of up of 3 components of nursing. These components consist of practice, evidence, and translation. JHNEBP model also has internal and external factors that need to be considered before change can be implemented. During the practice stage/question stage a question is refined in answerable terms.
The use of evidence based practice in the hospital setting is increasing since research proving that integration of evidence based healthcare has a lot of benefits in this setting, and achieves the best possible outcomes for the patient . Improved patient outcomes is a result of the higher quality of care given by providers when following the most recent and updated evidence of the effect of care at the point of care. Utilization of evidence based practice also increases clinicians confidence in their care, allows them to adapt to new care, improve their skills, as well as their critical thinking and decision making skills. This in turn leads to higher clinician job satisfaction which promotes improved care of the patients through improved
Nursing theory provides the framework for nursing practice and education, as well as future nursing research, which is essential to aid in the development of evidence-based nursing practice. Dr. Katharine Kolcaba’s comfort theory is a mid-range theory which promotes focusing on the holistic comfort needs of our clients. According to the comfort theory, an enhanced state of comfort improves healthcare outcomes and encourages clients to engage in behaviors that move them to a state of well-being (Kolcaba, 2003). Although medications and treatments are necessary to aid in restoring health to our clients, attentiveness to comfort promotes healing of the body, mind, and spirit, thereby significantly improving healthcare outcomes.
Congested heart failure (CHF) is one of the leading causes of death in the United States (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2015). There have been research studies conducted to provide evidence-based practice in decreasing the effects of CHF. There is evidence that links exercise, diet, and education as key factors that decreases mortality and morbidity in patients with CHF. All healthcare settings can utilize and implement evidence-based practice when caring for patients with CHF. Nurses should promote education about CHF and the benefits of regular exercise and diet (Smart, 2010).
Evidence based practice (EBP) is a process of integrating high quality evidence into practice or care provided by health professionals and decision makers in health care. This discussion will explore the meaning of the term Evidence Based Practice further and discuss its origins. EBP requires finding the best available evidence to inform practice, its greatest benefit being the best possible care for a client. Other benefits and limitations will be further discussed below. EBP demands the client be seen as an individual and their unique circumstances be considered in the application of evidence
1. Define research, nursing research, and evidence-based practice, and describe the purposes of research in implementing an evidence-based practice. Research is investigating and studying of materials and sources to establish facts and reach new conclusions or to report knowledge about something. Research can also mean to validate something that already exists based on some kind of theory.
Evidence based practice (EBP) is to demonstrate the best practice, which has been supported, with a clear rationale to back it up, while acknowledging the patient/clients best interest. In this professional outline it will be discussed why EBP is so important to start with student nurses career and continuing throughout the nursing career and the second main point will be on the impact it has on patient outcomes regardless of discipline. I believe if this mind set is instilled early in the nurses career the practice will evolve it a more proactive
Evidence-based nursing practice help to improve individual bedside practice because nurses work in the ward based on knowledge they obtained from previous research. It can also answer problematic clinical practice issue since it aim at solving problem, it improves nurse’s quality and reduces variations in care. Nurses are also confident in their decisions due to the fact that they know what they’re doing and can as well prove it because every patient deserves care that is based on the best scientific knowledge and ensures high quality and are cost-
In the clinical setting, the nurses’ expertise can be used to make clinical assessments and recommendations for routine care at a lower cost than a physician visit. This would increase the number of patients seen and increase the quality of the care provided. The advance practice nurse would be able to hone in on preventative measures and increase patient education. The advance practice nurse can also make recommendations about practice changes needed to facilitate better health outcomes through the use of evidence-based practice. Nursing leaders are aware of how important nursing science is to provide needed evidence to transform practice, even though, finding the time and resources to support any research activity is often challenging (Stone, 2017).
It’s important to use evidence based practices in nursing because it creates solutions to the patient’s needs, it improves the overall care of the patients, reduces harm and helps support nurse’s actions and clinical judgments. Sackett (2000) says that evidence based practice is looking at the best evidence along with using your clinic expertise in helping you to make a decision about the patient’s individuals care. Outline the process undertaken when searching for credible and relevant evidence to support Part 2 of the workbook. (Justify and support answers with credible and relevant evidence whilst adhering to UWS referencing guidance). The first element of finding credible and relevant evidence would be to research journals and articles, as
What is Evidence-based practice? Evidence-based practice is an all-around systematic approach to patient care that was built up on research and proven treatment results within nursing in order to increase the patient outcomes. Evidence based practice is define as “the integration of current evidences and practices to make decisions about patient care”. (Medical Surgical Nursing, 2018). Evidence-based practice not only includes the best proven research for practicing patient-centered care, but also merges the patient’s preferences and values into consideration.
It’s a challenge for nurses to stay current with evidence based practices. I too receive emails frequently but I rarely have the time to read them due to my workload. I work on a very busy inpatient floor and I rarely have time to eat and use the restroom. I’m sure other nurses lack time at their workplaces to search and read research articles.
Research is an important source of knowledge in nursing practice but the same important factors are clinical experience and patients’ value and preference. Nurses can make a decision by consider the research and their own experience but nurses should also concern the feeling of patient. In this essay, there is prove that the importance of evidence-based practice and the limitation in Hong Kong medical system. Research is an examination and investigation aimed at the discovery and interpretation of facts, modifying of accepted theories or laws base on new facts, or practical application of such new or revised theories or laws (Polit, D. F., & Beck, C. T., 2008). It is important in nursing practice for continuing advancements for promote
Giving care to a patient is not a straightforward process because a patient is made up of advanced systems. Symptoms and the severity of a disease process are dependent on a particular patient, and it may not always be uniform from patient to patient. Because of this, nurses must be able to use their knowledge appropriately to help a patient. Nurses use techniques, such as Evidence Based Practice, in order to integrate new and advanced knowledge into their patient care (Canada, 2016). By exercising evidence based practice, nurses effectively seek knowledge, take experience from past situations, and apply this intelligence to best give patient care (Canada, 2016).
