One of the more challenging aspects of EBP is the actual research on a particular topic. The fact is there is a multitude of journals and reviews etc. on any given subject; for this reason it is imperative that one knows how to conduct a proper search for pertinent information. Due to the complexity of literature searches and the amount of information available it is prudent to follow a guide while doing research.

Evidence base practice (EBP) is a proactive methodology to improving patient care. Nurses are now called upon to research, identify and analyze practice problems so that questions can be answered on how to deliver care. Therefore, the translation of research into practice require strategies such as protocol and guideline to disseminate EBP within an organization (Yoder-Wise, 2015). By researching barriers to breastfeeding in the neonatal intensive care (NICU), policy changes are noted to be indicated.

The theory of evidence based practice is not only an approach that targets for quality of patients but also highly improves the level of accountability in the health care sector by promoting a life-time learning process. P3 research: I will now compare different research methodologies for health and social care. There are two types of research that are commonly used when research projects are being taken out, which aim to benefit health and social care related services. Without research being carried out medical professionals/and laboratory scientists would not be able to provide us with improved medications that can improve our health.

With this method we are not looking to develop new ideas we are looking for ways to improve existing practice. This is done by using the best evidence to improve patient care. The best evidence is achieved through research from various sources. These sources include: the latest scientific knowledge, best clinical practices, clinical judgement, and critical thinking.

The use of evidence based practice in the hospital setting is increasing since research proving that integration of evidence based healthcare has a lot of benefits in this setting, and achieves the best possible outcomes for the patient . Improved patient outcomes is a result of the higher quality of care given by providers when following the most recent and updated evidence of the effect of care at the point of care. Utilization of evidence based practice also increases clinicians confidence in their care, allows them to adapt to new care, improve their skills, as well as their critical thinking and decision making skills. This in turn leads to higher clinician job satisfaction which promotes improved care of the patients through improved

delivery of the pilot program. The final questionnaire will be a post-intervention survey of the efficiency of the project. Evidence-Based Intervention Evaluation of teaching practice and reflection, therefore, go hand in hand to help nurse educators develop their practice and become better educators (O’Malley and Fleming, 2012). For this week’s discussion post I will identify a situation where evidence-based practice has been applied in my workplace. This helps with intertwining practice and research and are established by professional organizations, government agencies, institutions, or expert panels (LoBiondo-Wood & Haber, 2014). These clinical guidelines give clinicians findings to help in the decision making process of diseases or treatments. In developing evidence-based practice, a clinical question must first be put into place.

Research is designed to contribute to knowledge which has resulted in the formation of evidence based practice. The influence of evidence-based practice is endorsed across nursing practice and education. The need for an effective, safe, and efficient health system has resulted in the call for evidence based practice to become the bases for new knowledge being transformed into working clinical procedures, being effectively implemented and working for the advantage of the patient and the entire care team. Evidence based practice is an approach to problem solving and an aid for decision making which integrates best evidence and patient care data. Before EBP was imbedded into healthcare, nurses relied in the advice of senior nurses and what they learned through education and trial and error. Floranc enightengal ……. However, it wasn’t until the mid-1800s that evidence-based medicine had its beginnings, but did not come into play until the year of 1972. Through many years different modifications, various groups of nurses have drafted their own versions of evidence-based practice guidelines into play.

Evidence based practice holds a high level of importance in the field of professional nursing. Nursing research adds to the current knowledge base and simultaneously supplies trustworthy data that can be used as the basis for practice (Kearney-Nunnery, 2016, p. 79) . The implementation of the practices gained through research, and proven through evidence, contribute to the profession of nursing, the welfare of the patient, and the health industry. In the field of nursing, evidence based practice provides the nurse with the most up to date and proven interventions. It increases the nurses overall knowledge and expertise, which makes them a higher quality provider of care.

Giving care to a patient is not a straightforward process because a patient is made up of advanced systems. Symptoms and the severity of a disease process are dependent on a particular patient, and it may not always be uniform from patient to patient. Because of this, nurses must be able to use their knowledge appropriately to help a patient. Nurses use techniques, such as Evidence Based Practice, in order to integrate new and advanced knowledge into their patient care (Canada, 2016). By exercising evidence based practice, nurses effectively seek knowledge, take experience from past situations, and apply this intelligence to best give patient care (Canada, 2016).
