With Reference to the CYP IAPT Core Principles, critically discuss Evidence Based Practice and Routine Outcome Monitoring and the challenges of implementing these within the modality of parenting and within the wider context of practise within the children centres Introduction Studies published by Green, Meltzer, McGinnity, Goodman and Ford in 2004 estimated that 9.6% or nearly 850,000 children and young people aged between 5 -16 had a mental health disorder and it was estimated that a staggering 76% of those CYP with anxiety and depression disorders were not accessing mental health services compared to 35% of adults. As a result of such studies, The children and young people’s improving Access to Psychological Therapies programme (CYP IAPT) was conceived and aimed to transform the delivery of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CHAMS) across England. CYP IAPT has four core principles, Evidence Based Practice (EBP), Routine Outcome Monitoring (ROM), Participation, and Reflective Practice. This essay will focus on the two principles of EBP and ROM and will consider the challenges of implementing these within the modality of parenting and within the wider context of practise within the children centres.

Evidence- Based Practice Evidence based practice has influenced the way that induvials view sexually transmitted disease. It allows us to look at the information we have gathered previously, interpret it and then determine what needs to be changed and what seems to be working properly. When looking at EBP, we can tell that with the use of protection such as condoms and dental dams, the percentage of STDs being transmitted has lowered. When sexually active individuals did not use preventative measure, the percentage of STDs grew. EBP also has proven to show that the more partners one has, the risk of catching an STD becomes higher.

The objective of this essay is to explore and analyse a research topic relevant to me as a practitioner. This research critique will then be utilised in practice. . According to Jolley 2010 research is the driving force in improving care to patients through evidence based research. During this assignment, the task asks for an overview of what Evidence Based Practice (EBP) is, and why is it so important and relevant to nursing as a generic term? The nursing and midwifery council (NMC) states that, all healthcare professionals are required to carry out care based on the best available evidence or best practice (NMC, 2008). A broad definition of Evidence Based Practice (EBP) came from David Sackett, (founder of the NHS Research and Development Centre and Colleagues); he expressed that EBP is: ‘The conscientious and judicious use of current best evidence in conjunction with clinical expertise and patient values to guide health [and social] care decisions’. (Sackett et al, 2000: 71-72).

Evidence based practice (EBP) is a process of integrating high quality evidence into practice or care provided by health professionals and decision makers in health care. This discussion will explore the meaning of the term Evidence Based Practice further and discuss its origins. EBP requires finding the best available evidence to inform practice, its greatest benefit being the best possible care for a client. Other benefits and limitations will be further discussed below. EBP demands the client be seen as an individual and their unique circumstances be considered in the application of evidence

For this week’s discussion post I will identify a situation where evidence-based practice has been applied in my workplace. Evidence-based guidelines are put in place and into practice after research has been completed. This helps with intertwining practice and research and are established by professional organizations, government agencies, institutions, or expert panels (LoBiondo-Wood & Haber, 2014). These clinical guidelines give clinicians findings to help in the decision making process of diseases or treatments. In developing evidence-based practice, a clinical question must first be put into place.

It is the responsibility of the organization to create a culture of evidence-base practice. Instructing nursing students about EBP can require different teaching and evaluation strategies to practicing nurses (Streurer, 2010). The questions that arise from a practicing nurse may provide more information than a student of nursing. Therefore, Streuer urges organizations to adopt a model for evidence-based practice, such as the Stevens (2004) ACE Star Model of Knowledge Transformation.

Evidence-Based Practice Application The practice of nursing has changed over the years from a task-oriented job to a science-based profession (Brown, 2013). With this change, research studies have become a pivotal part of the nursing profession, providing the information that is used to expand, improve, and generate new nursing knowledge (Brown, 2013). Evidence-based practices (EBP) in nursing are based on the best available research data generated from these studies (Weng et al., 2013). An example of the research used in documenting an EBP was found in an article by Hammonds et al.

Evidence-based nursing practice help to improve individual bedside practice because nurses work in the ward based on knowledge they obtained from previous research. It can also answer problematic clinical practice issue since it aim at solving problem, it improves nurse’s quality and reduces variations in care. Nurses are also confident in their decisions due to the fact that they know what they’re doing and can as well prove it because every patient deserves care that is based on the best scientific knowledge and ensures high quality and are cost-

In the clinical setting, the nurses’ expertise can be used to make clinical assessments and recommendations for routine care at a lower cost than a physician visit. This would increase the number of patients seen and increase the quality of the care provided. The advance practice nurse would be able to hone in on preventative measures and increase patient education. The advance practice nurse can also make recommendations about practice changes needed to facilitate better health outcomes through the use of evidence-based practice. Nursing leaders are aware of how important nursing science is to provide needed evidence to transform practice, even though, finding the time and resources to support any research activity is often challenging (Stone, 2017).

It’s important to use evidence based practices in nursing because it creates solutions to the patient’s needs, it improves the overall care of the patients, reduces harm and helps support nurse’s actions and clinical judgments. Sackett (2000) says that evidence based practice is looking at the best evidence along with using your clinic expertise in helping you to make a decision about the patient’s individuals care. Reflection on Evidence Based Practices. The American Psychological Association defines Evidence-Based Practice in psychology as a combination of the best research with the highest clinical expertise that takes into context a patient’s culture and preferences (APA, 2005). The empirical data gathered is intended to provide effective and practical mental health assessments for the public supported by competent psychologists. The Oregon Addictions and Mental Health Division AMH defines evidence-based practice as a combination of the best research evidence with the highest clinical expertise to provide the patient with the most competent care (Oregon AMH, 2007).

Discussion of Evidenced-Based Practice as a Science The science of nursing is based on evidence-based practices and constitutes the core of nursing. What is wrong with the patient? Why are they here? What information do you have to support your care plan?

Giving care to a patient is not a straightforward process because a patient is made up of advanced systems. Symptoms and the severity of a disease process are dependent on a particular patient, and it may not always be uniform from patient to patient. Because of this, nurses must be able to use their knowledge appropriately to help a patient. Nurses use techniques, such as Evidence Based Practice, in order to integrate new and advanced knowledge into their patient care (Canada, 2016). By exercising evidence based practice, nurses effectively seek knowledge, take experience from past situations, and apply this intelligence to best give patient care (Canada, 2016).
