There is some irony in the novel a major one was the fact that multiple parole officers visited Philips house throughout Jaycee 18 years of captivity, and on occasion they would even interact with Jaycee. “One day when I was in the house taking care of his mother, this new parole agent came and I asked him if he was the agent who walked into my daughter’s bedroom. He answered no and I proceeded to wheel Pat back in the room. He took Philip’s urine sample and left.” (Dugard 198) The parole officer didn't even question why she was there or who she was they obviously didn't do a thorough job when searching the house. Jaycee was an innocent 11 year old girl who had never shaved her legs and in a matter of an hour was forced to perform sexual actions on an adult male. She didn't know why she was gaining weight when she was pregnant and didn't even attend a high school she stop schooling at 5th grade. She had her innocence and her life taken away from her.
14.) The authors intention with the title “A Stolen Life” is to indicate how she had her life stolen away from her by Philip and Nancy who raped her when she was just 11 years old. This quote is a hyperbole in the novel because it is exaggerating how far away the books are in the library. After being rescued Jaycee had to learn how to live as an adult in the real world. When she was rescued the only thing she could think to do was reunited with her mother. The whole time she was held hostage at the Garridos the only thing she wanted was her mother. Jaycee had lost her whole childhood while she was at the Garrido’s. She didn’t get to go to school, hang out with friends, learn how to drive, playing sports,going on dates, or anything that most teenagers have the opportunity to do in there life.

For the first time reader, the poem “Dandelion” by Julie Lechevsky seems to be idolizing the dandelion weed. But after taking a closer look, it is noticeable that the poem has a bit more depth. It is clear that the poem conveys a message of truthfulness towards oneself and not letting peers completely influence one's personality. Lechevsky uses a variety of metaphors and other elements of figurative language to pass this message. Throughout the poem Lechevsky seems to be using a tone that advertises the good in dandelions, almost like an underdog sports movie, how odds are stacked against the team, but they somehow manage to pull out the victory.
