Linnea Peterson English lV Mrs. Lex 10 May, 2023 Innocence for Adnan In murder cases there is alway the obvious suspect and as the case goes on, fingers start to point somewhere else, but sometimes people get falsely accused and believed to be untrustworthy as a newly known criminal. In this case, the fingers ended up pointing back at Adnan, which isn't unusual if that was actually the killer. Using very powerful evidence that is strong and very trustworthy used to pin down the actual killer. Without powerful physical evidence how can a legal system be for certain enough to accuse a person for committing murder? Adnan isn't guilty for committing murder in the Hae Min Lee case, due to questionable evidence, plus bias judgements. Furthermore, the importance of having substantial evidence tQhat is very reliable, and not questionable. There have been …show more content…
Plus Adnan gets his lawyer through the prosecutor, and the lawyer doesn't even try hard enough to protect Adnan’s rights. Jay Wilds was a key suspect in the Hae Min Lee case. He testified against Adnan Syed, Lee's ex-boyfriend, claiming he helped Syed bury the body. His testimony was a key piece of evidence used to convict Syed. The possibility of Jay lying about Adnan is always present, as Jay may have a motive or incentive to portray Adnan in a negative light. Additionally, Jay's testimony is largely uncorroborated, meaning that there is no hard evidence to prove his claims. Jay's story about Adnan murdering was so widely believed because of the way it was told. Jay provided detailed and vivid descriptions of the events as well as convincing details, which made his story more believable. The fact that he was a friend of Adnan and had knowledge of the events made it even more convincing. Furthermore, the prosecution used Jay's testimony as the main evidence to prove Adnan's
In episode 7, Sarah admits to Deirdre Enright, who works at the University Of Virginia School Of Law and runs their Innocence Project clinic, that there isn’t any “gross negligence or malfeasance or something on the part of the detectives or the State Attorney’s office, everyone seems to be doing their job, responsibly.” The people working on the case were doing their jobs correctly, and Adnan was convicted, not because the case was built for his conviction, but because the evidence and other information collected pointed to Adnan’s guilt. And Jim Trainum, the detective hired by the Serial staff, tells Sarah that “the detectives in this case were cautious and methodical. They weren’t rushing to grab suspects or to dismiss them either. The evidence collection was well documented,” and that the case is “better than average” (Ep. 8, Jim).
At the age of 17, Adnan Syed was charged for the murder of Hae Min Lee, but I don’t believe he did it, and I want to tell you why I think it was Jay who committed the murder. In this case there are days worth of reading for evidence. Just in the transcripts, there’s 288 pages, some of it evidence, some of it conversations, and some of it interviews. There are so many people involved that it's very difficult to say for certain that Adnan did it, but it's also very difficult to point out anyone else that could have done it as well.
The prosecution case against Adnan Syed was mainly based on the testimony of Jay wilds, who said he helped bury Hae Min Lee's body. Jay's testimony was supported by the cell phone records that placed Adnan on the site on the Day Hae Min Lee disappeared. According to the prosecution, the evidence sayed that Adnan had a motive to Kill Hae, because he was jealous and possessive of her. However, there are inconsistinces in Jay’s testimony, which has changed multiple times over the years. Some people also claimed that He was pressured into providing false testimony by the police.
There was absolutely no evidence that could tie Adnan to the case, but he was still convicted of the crime. I’m not sure if the crime scene investigators at the time missed any details or didn’t think the case was too important since Adnan was Muslim, but they should have found at least one small piece of evidence. From all the crime scene investigation shows that I have seen over the years the investigators have always, and I mean always found some type of physical evidence from the crime scene or off the victims body. Regardless of any type of crime scene, the investigators always managed to find a shred of evidence so the idea of Adnan’s case having no physical evidence found makes it seem very
In Episode 1, host Sarah Koenig highlights how the prosecution's timeline of events is riddled with inconsistencies and relies heavily on the memory of key witnesses, including Jay Wilds. Jay's changing story is documented in Episode 8, where he admits to providing false statements during the trial. It's worth noting that the prosecution's case against Adnan Syed relied heavily on circumstantial evidence,
Piers Anthony once said, “When one person makes an accusation, check to be sure he himself is not the guilty one. Sometimes it is those whose case is weak who make the most clamor.” When someone is accused of a crime , there must be a sufficient amount of solid evidence to prove their guilt. In the podcast narrated by Sarah Koenig, Serial, goes over a murder case from over fifteen years ago. It is easily perceived that Adnan Syed was falsely incriminated for killing his ex girlfriend, Hae Min Lee.
Adnan Syed is innocent. He did not murder Hae Min Lee. The reasons Adnan was wrongly convicted is: Adnan has consistently maintained innocence, Jay’s story is in consistent, the call tracking isn’t reliable, the Asia affidavit proves otherwise, post mortem results of Hae’s body debunked the states story, and people who knew Adnan and Hae said the break up wasn’t messy. In summary, Adnan is innocent. Adnan had been in captivity for almost 15 years.
The Prosecution's case was more robust than Adnan with the Prosecution using a combination of witness testimonies and cell phone records, painting Adnan as guilty. In contrast, the defense struggled to provide coherent and compelling evidence. Adnan's defense focused more on moving the blame to someone else, or they tried to discredit Jay's testimony. The only attempt to prove Adnan was innocent was by Asia McClain," Asia plus boyfriend saw him in library 2:15 to 3:15" (Serial 1.18). This evidence would have shown Adnan's innocence.
Adnan Syed was accused and arrested for a crime I believe he didn’t commit. Adnan was a senior at Woodlawn High School in 1999, and he was arrested for killing his ex-girlfriend Hae Min Lee, who had gone missing six weeks earlier. Adnan is now serving a life sentence in prison, and has yet to be released. Adnan Syed was found guilty of first degree murder and is sitting in jail, however, he is an innocent man because due process wasn’t followed, there wasn’t enough evidence to show he did it, and he had an affidavit to show he didn’t commit the crime.
One piece of evidence proves that Adnan is innocent. Jay’s presented in his testimony that after Adnan killed Hae near the Best Buy, he called Jay through a phone booth to his own phone. According to Jay, Adnan left his phone to Jay, so that he could call him back after he gets her body. Koenig researched all the phone booths around 1999, to collect call records of the phone booth. After a thorough investigation, Koenig couldnt find any phone booths near the Best Buy that Jay reported of.
Jay Wilds, who was an asset to the burial of Hae Lee, claims that Adnan had bragged about choking Hae Lee and helped bury her. After the investigation looked at Adnan’s cell phone data, it shows that a call was made around the time of when Jay Wilds claims that they were burying the body. In the Recent Developments paper, written by Justin Ellis, he writes about how Adnan had actually failed to provide a crucial piece of evidence before the trial started. This evidence was a stab at the claim that Adnan was in the park at the time of the burial. It contained a letter from an alibi witness known as Asia McClain.
These two reasons are all that a person should need to believe that Adnan didn't have enough motive, or time, to kill Hae. Jays testimony sets the timeline and proves there is enough evidence, which is not presented by Adnan’s lawyer, to say Adnan is innocent by a straying story. The time period where Hae could've been killed does not match Adnan’s timeline. Jay, who is a convicted felon, was the only witness and is trusted to give a good story. Cristina Gutierrez, who was Adnan’s lawyer, had medical issues that distracted her from using useful information in his case.
It’s a highly debatable topic whether or not Adnan Syed is innocent or guilty in the murder of Hae Min Lee, and I believe that Adnan should be let go from jail. There is very compelling evidence, that points to Adnan not being the one to murder his ex girlfriend. From Jay switching up stories, Asia Mclain's handwritten letters that she wrote to Adnan, stating that she indeed saw him at the local library on January 13th 1999, to Adnan not showing signs of even being mentally unstable. There is many more that I could go in great detail about, but these three focal points stand out to me as key evidence in Adnan's innocence. One reason why Adnan is innocent, is because Jay doesn’t know which story to use.
Why would you believe anything Jay is claiming to have seen if he can so readily misremember crucial details like seeing a body? Having established these facts, I believe you should not trust Jay's testimony and instead gather additional physical evidence to determine who actually committed this crime. Jay’s inconsistencies may be causing Adnan to be accused of something he hasn't
In the first interview, he confessed of knowing what had happened to Hae due to the fact that he was there to witness it all. In his testimony, he revealed that Adnan had strangled Hae to death at a Best Buy parking lot because Adnan was angry at the fact that Hae had besmirched his honor. Jay also gave the detectives’ concrete evidence to show that he was credible. The strongest evidence that he had provided them was the location of Hae’s missing car. When the detectives saw the Hae’s missing car at the location where Jay said it would be found,
