It is considered to be one of the most competitive tournaments in soccer. It is similar to the Olympics and comes around every four years. The USWNT was the first team to win three times. Their compensation for the hard earned win was $2 million. That seems like a pretty fair amount but when you compare it to the amount the men’s team won, it doesn’t make sense at all. The men had their world cup the year before and the champions, the men’s German team, won a total of $35 million. That’s a pretty big gap between the men and women’s prize winnings. The United States Men’s National Team finished 11th in the competition and received $9 million, and each men’s team that was knocked out in the first round got $8 million. That’s four time more than the women’s championship team(womenssportsfoundation). The women’s World Cup final was the most watched televised soccer event with 25.4 million viewers. The team still got paid about forty times less than the
Although Wells and Marbella suggest that men’s sports are being hurt because of Title IX, Goodale establishes that Title IX is not negatively impacting men’s athletics and is necessary for colleges to follow. Title IX, a 40-year law establishing equal opportunity for women has not negatively impacted men’s sports, as clarified in “40 Years Later, Title IX is Still Fighting Perception it Hurt Men’s Sports” by Gloria Goodale. First and foremost, sports like Football and Basketball take up a majority of a college budget for men’s sports, and when colleges cut minor teams such as baseball or tennis Title IX is unfairly blamed. A large amount of colleges decide to limit men’s athletic to large money-making sports such as football or basketball

Major football and basketball programs are the only ones which make millions of dollars every year. So, only football and basketball players from major programs deserve to get paid, but this is not fair. It would be unreasonable to the other athletes to only pay football and basketball players because they put in just as much work as football and basketball players. All sports programs have a similar schedule, and they are all demanding.
Clearly, this is why the WNBA should get paid as much as men do. A second reason why the WNBA should get paid more is that women’s sports don’t get as nearly as

The ones that become professional athletes have worked from a young age and put in thousands of hours practicing which goes along with the old saying “Time Is Money”. These players sacrifice their bodies and spend hours in rehab or taking pain medication because of it. That kind of strenuous activity all the time puts strain on your body and athletes pay for that in the future. Athletes also lose most of their privacy due to the media. Athletes have to do countless numbers of interviews to keep the people happy.
Why College Athletes Shouldn’t Get Paid? Free education! Free lunch! Free books.
Athletes who play football or basketball are at a higher risk of career ending injuries. These two sports are the hardest on an athletes body. Only one out of twenty-five college athletes go pro, so why put your body at risk when you don’t receive anything for doing that and your chances of going pro are slim? A lot of these student athletes are stressed out because of schoolwork participating in a college sport. This is just another reason that these athletes deserve to be
People know that doctors and firefighters save lives, while athletes play a game to make money. Even teachers pay isn’t anywhere near to athletes; they educate the generation’s youth so they can make a difference in the future. So many jobs that are very important don’t get paid as much and that money can go towards better causes. But these are only some of the reasons that pro athletes get paid too much.
The most clear evidence of the inequality between women and men hockey players refers back to the resources provided to a ‘quality’ career and training, which is clearly portrayed by money. In the Women’s Hockey League, a mere budget of 1.8 million dollars is set. When compared to a man’s salary in the Hockey League, it is equivalent to a year salary for that player. This concludes that the budget that runs a female league is less to a man’s annual salary, and for the men it can got up to a couple of million dollars every year. Arguably, women have as much success as men, especially during the Olympics.
But to put that in perspective, after Germany won the men’s tournament last year, they earned an extra $35 million” (Mazziota). Why is it that both the male and female teams won the same exact thing, but the women’s team gets so much less? We can also see it happening through golf. “The 2015 U.S. Women 's Open had a total purse of $4.5m and the champion took home $810,000, yet the U.S. Open had a total purse of $10m, and winner
In 2007, Wimbledon after many years of protest resulted in equal pay among both female and male athletes. Before then, the U.S. Open was the only tournament that gave equal prize money to both genders. “Records show that equal pay has not hurt Wimbledon, as prize money has nearly doubled in the last five years for men and women.” Some people were sexist to women thinking that their only job was to take care of the family. Gender Inequality in sports is an issue as old as sport itself. I choose this topic because we as a society seem to sweep it under the rug time after time. Women in sports however, try to address the issue only to have it go on deaf ears, leaving them to continue in the sport hoping something will change. Over the last few decades, strides have been made, but he sport remains an institution dominated by men. These women, whether they are in sport or in the business world, want a fair chance to be on the same level as their male counterparts.
