In Richard Connell’s short story “the most dangerous game,” General Zaroff’s air of sophistication contrasts his barbaric nature. When Rainsford was talking to himself in “the Most Dangerous Game” he said, “You see I read all your books in English, French, and Russian.” (5). General Zaroff shows how sophisticated he is by showing that he is trilingual. General is fluent in at least 3 languages since a hunting book would have difficult words since it is most likely an adult book meaning that he is very fluent in English, French, and Russian.

‘’The Most Dangerous Game’’ is a short story in which one man enjoy hunting humans, the other enjoys hunting for animals, these two men battle it out on an mysterious island. Although the two both enjoy hunting, both of these characters General Zaroff and Sanger Rainsford differ from each other in countless ways. The distinction between the two are evident. In ‘’The Most Dangerous Game’’ General Zaroff is cruel and unwitty, Zaroff finds killing innocent humans that wash up on shore--enjoyable. Rainsford wouldn’t kill innocent human beings, nor would Rainsford find joy in doing it.

The most dangerous game was written by Richard Connell in 1924. It is a short story which has mystery, suspense and adventure. Also, it shows how people do their best to survive in different situations. This story consists of two main characters, Sanger Rainsford and General Zaroff. The story begins on a yacht in the Caribbean Sea.

The Most Dangerous Game is a story that discusses the inner capability to humans to perform acts of extreme violence. It observes two different, yet similar characters in General Zaroff and Rainsford. They both have very similar views on hunting, as they both consider the feelings of the prey to be meaningless. However, the stark difference between the two characters is the General Zaroff hunts humans and Rainsford hunts big game. Connell made sure to write this similarity into the story for the sake of foreshadowing.

Zaroff has been hunting ever since he was five years old, after his father gave him his first gun. After shooting turkeys, Zaroff wanted to hunt more animals, starting his hunt. He shot his first large animal at the age of ten. “I killed my first bear in Caucasus when I was ten” (Connell 6). The general has hunted many interesting animals in his life, but now finds them all boring.

Rainsford is initially shown to not show any empathy to the wild animals he hunts. Zaroff is no different, with him declaring, “I hunt the scum of the earth: sailors from tramp ships--lassars, blacks, Chinese, whites, mongrels,” (9). Zaroff hunts humans who have the unfortunate luck to arrive on Ship-Trap Island. Zaroff gives no second thought about hunting humans because he finds them to be the perfect sport to hunt, and finds pleasure in hunting them. In the short story, “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell, the protagonist, Sanger Rainsford, and the antagonist, General Zaroff, are similar characters.

Most people when they hear “The Most Dangerous Game” they think of bull riding or other dangerous games that don’t involve death. “The Most Dangerous Game” is a suspenseful cliff hanging story that follows the days of a castaway on the island of a crazed hunter. Rainsford is a big game hunter who falls off a boat near the island of General Zaroff, a big Cossack general who is looking for an alternative to hunting dangerous animals but with a twist. Throughout “The Dangerous Game” Rainsford and General Zaroff both show examples of IRony and exert arrogance.

In the story, “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell the protagonist, Rainsford, a very skilled hunter, falls of a ship and finds himself on Ship-Trap Island, where he meets the antagonist, General Zaroff. Rainsford discovers that Zaroff is also an intelligent hunter and is disgusted to discover that he plays a dangerous game in which he hunts humans that he catches on his island, Rainsford becomes his next participant. Rainsford and Zaroff have a lot of similar beliefs about hunting, social classes, and the feelings of their prey and they are both very intelligent hunters. However, Rainsford’s hunting knowledge causes Zaroff’s first loss in his game because Rainsford is the better hunter. Rainsford and Zaroff both showcase their love and knowledge for hunting in the text.

General Zaroff is different, to say the least, in Richard Connell’s book, “The Most Dangerous Game.” Rainsford is stranded on a deserted island, or so he thinks. Rainsford comes upon a mansion that is owned by General Zaroff. He knows of Rainsford, who is a renowned author of a book about the hunt, as well as everything and everywhere Rainsford has hunted. General Zaroff is also a hunter, but he goes to the extreme.

When you’re in a tough situation, you should always do what's right even if it creates enemies. “The Most Dangerous Game” Takes place on Ship-trap island the island is man made by General Zaroff the feeling the is dark, dense, and terrifying. A well-known hunter named Rainsford is going to hunt in Rio get kill jaguars. On his way there he fell overboard and ended up swimming to Ship-Trap Island witch Zaroff owned. Zaroff is another hunter but he moved out there because there is more game out there and they put up a better fight.

When Rainsford asks if Zaroff hunts cape buffalo, Zaroff states “ ‘[No,] I hunt more dangerous game’ (17)”. This foreshadows him revealing that he hunts men. This builds suspense because the reader doesn’t know yet what this “dangerous game” is, but they know it probably isn’t good. The author utilizes

“Hunting people is not murdering”. This shows General Zaroff 's problem , he hunts humans like animals . Most dangerous game is a short story where General Zaroff sets people up to land on his island , where he keeps them captive and kills them . General zaroff should be prosecuted for hunting humans . He kills innocent people , he sets them up so the people can land on his island and he feeds his victims to his dogs .

“The Most Dangerous Game”, a short story by Richard Connell, is about Sanger Rainsford’s unfortunate visit to General Zaroff’s island while on a hunting trip. General Zaroff isn’t any normal hunter and he invites Rainsford to play a hunting game that is unlike any other hunting game. General Zaroff’s arrogance and experience in hunting and the hunting game, could cost Rainsford his life. The first trait General Zaroff displays is arrogance.

Murder is the premeditated killing of one human being by another. Premeditated means think out or plan (an action, especially a crime) beforehand. Now do you think that the killing of General Zaroff was justified? In the story “The most dangerous game” Rainsford stated “I’m not a murder” but can self-defense be perceived as murder? In regards to the Rainsford vs. Zaroff situation, it is my belief that Rainsford killing General Zaroff, was not justified.
