Instead it’s the decisions you make or the way you choose to see things that can really make you happy. For instance, at the beginning of the reading there was an example of two different people who both just had a baby and are facing long nights, but one has a better outlook than the other: “She sees challenge where you see only threat. She takes an uplifting, optimistic perspective when you feel distrustful and beaten down.” (28) This shows that in a rough situation, the only thing standing between you and happiness is yourself, you can choose to look on the brighter side and be happy, or you can choose to look at all the negatives and be unhappy or possibly even depressed.

Has anyone ever called you an animal? Have you been compared to a sloth because you were lazy, or a mouse because you were quiet? In my Language Arts class, we read the book “Touching Spirit Bear” by Ben Mikaelsen. In this novel, a troubled teenage boy named Cole is banished to an island to find and heal his soul after he severely beats a kid. During his stay on the island, Cole realizes that he is similar to several different animals.

Salinger 's Catcher in the Rye, Peter Weir’s Dead Poets Society, current articles, and insights from parents show how being emotionally susceptible to your feelings can interfere with finding your purpose Because feelings are so distracting people cannot focus on fulfilling their purpose, and People who are susceptible to their feelings often get discouraged causing them to lose their desire to fulfill their purpose.

The book Ghost of Spirit Bear is a sequel to the book Touching Spirit Bear. I enjoyed this book because it has a good story and plot. While this book is not as adventurous or moving as the first book Ghost of Spirit Bear still has a good plot and creates vivid pictures in your mind while reading. I prefered Touching Spirit Bear over this book because it has more adventure and a more shocking story. The book consists mainly of the same characters but more were added when Peter and Cole go to school.

At the beginning of the novel, Cole Matthews is a vicious teenager who thinks he is superior to everyone, but is, in fact, hiding behind a shield of anger, the result of being brutally abused by his drunken father. Cole’s father, Mr. Matthews, drinks non stop until he becomes a monster, and then ruthlessly beats Cole up. When talking to Garvey, a proud, Tlingit indian, who is also his parole officer, Cole opens up about his father’s abuse saying, “‘You don’t know what it’s like being hit over and over until you’re so numb you don’t feel anything!” (Mikaelsen 28).

In the novel touching spirit bear we learn all about a young boy named Cole Mathews learns how to control himself. He learns that anger is not the answer. He realizes that this is his,last chance. He learns that he was a juvenile delinquent that has no respect for others. He has three main traits that make him this way.

As we all know most slavery books are not written by slaves but the book Fredrick Douglass was written by Fredrick Douglass himself, he himself was a slave. The Book Trouble Don’t Last was not exactly written by a slave nor by a black person either.

Anthem by Ayn Rand and Animal Farm by George Orwell have many similarities as well as differences. Anthem is a dystopian novel featuring Equality, later renamed Prometheus, as the main character, and focuses on his journey to separate himself from the collectivist ideals of the society in which he lived. Animal Farm is an allegorical novel representing the Russian Revolution and Joseph Stalin's rise to power. One similarity is that in both novels, the group in power intend to create the perfect society, but it always ended in corruption and benefits given only to those in power. Cole has changed how he feels about nature from the beginning of the book, exactly like how the first and final haikus differ from each other. The following statement shows how he has changed and realized he is a small part of a big circle, and is what inspired the “realizing life’s a circle” part of the haiku: “Standing beside the totems, explained to Peter that being invisible was being a part of life’s circle and accepting it. ‘This morning, when we forgave each other, we also forgave ourselves,’ he said. ‘We allowed ourselves to become a part of the big circle. . . .’” (Mikaelsen 239), whereas in the beginning Cole hated the idea of the circle and only thought of

In the novel Touching Spirit Bear by Ben Mikaelsen, the main character Cole Matthews demonstrates he is reckless on several occasions. Cole exhibits this trait on page 65 when he throws a wood spear at the spirit bear. He does not think things through and does not realize the fact that a bear could could kill him with ease. On pg 50 “Peter's lawyer said “we don't know all the reasons for clues anger,but we do know he is out of control , any solution found by this circle justice must protect society and make Cole fully responsible for his actions”. This statement by someone else reveals that Cole is reckless and does not think things though because he beat up a kid and thought he would get away with it with our any consequences.

Cole was beaten by him throughout his childhood. This pain and anger gave him the personality and characteristic to inflict pain on other people. The two final themes have a very strong connection. In order to heal, mentally and physically, you have to learn to forgive and receive forgiveness. This was a lesson the reader and the main character, Cole, experience throughout the book.

The relationships in Cole’s life all had a different impact on him but specifically his relationship with Peter affected him a lot. Especially the part of the book when Cole found out that Peter told on him. “‘You’re a dead man,’ he warned... He laughed when he saw fear in Peter’s eyes”(7-8). This shows the relationship at the beginning of the book and clearly it wasn’t good.

For example, when Cole purposy bothered the Spirt Bear and later on ended up getting mauld by the animal. It is obvious that Cole’s decisions and actions against banishment lead him to fail the act. Cole’s consistent negative attitude made him dislike the idea of meaning humane. Since the beginning of the book, Cole has satisfied himself with anger. Cole believes that he can concor anything with his anger.

Touching Spirit Bear is no different.

Or possibly, that something is only true as you believe it to be so. As evident as with Frederick narrative essay, one is only hindered when the thought of failure prevails. Fever, being hot like fire, was the passion she found within – to succeed, to empower herself and shun those that thought any different. To channelize ones anger results in positivity and success.
