Concealed Weapons The gun laws and restrictions have become a very controversial topic in the world today. The people of the United States are nearly spilt on whether or not there should be stricter gun laws, but more people lean towards the stricter side of the line. Although many would argue that stronger gun laws will increase crimes, stricter gun control legislation is an attack on the 2nd Amendment, and there can be no ‘Partial Restriction’ of fundamental rights. Many people question the assumption of whether citizens who carry have an affect on violent crimes. The owning and bearing of arms is not only protected under the Constitution as a means of defense against armed burglary, but also against military invasion. If the U.S. Military became incapacitated by, for instance, nuclear efforts, the only remaining line of defense on American soil would be her citizens themselves” (The Financial Word, par 6). Additionally, armed robbery or assault could conceivably be attempted by an armed and organized group, as opposed to a single, armed perpetrator. Banning assault weapons would render any individual powerless against a greater threat than a single invader. Gun Control advocates wrongly assign the blame for violent crime on the tools used to perpetrate it. Remember our example of Great Britain? After enacting a ban on modern handguns, the country did see a decline in gun-related homicide. However, the intentional homicide rate itself climbed steadily for five years, and today it is still higher than before the gun control laws were in place. Evil exists, and people will keep killing people, whether or not they have access to guns.
