Arthur Miller separates Hale from other characters in "The Crucible", While Most of these girls were entirely static, with the exception of Elizabeth. This play is based on the witch trials that took place in the puritan community of Salem, Massachusetts, in 1692. In the play reverend John Hale goes through a change where in the beginning he is rational person and the at the end he tried to be a savior.

Arthur Miller wrote play The Crucible, which is based on a real story; play begins in a very interesting moment and ends in a very dramatic scene. At the time, when the play was written, witchcraft was a big thing for people. People used witchcraft to accuse other people and take their property, or because they just don’t like them. The story shows us, how do characters have changed from the beginning of the play and until the very end. The Proctor is one of the main characters in The Crucible.

The play explains an outbreak in a village in which a Puritan society using a theocracy government convicts hundreds on the word of a few girls, falsely accusing townspeople of witchcraft, therefore bringing havoc to the town and John seeks to end the lies of the main antagonist, Abigail. Through the play, Proctor gets introduced to many different situations showing the reader changes of Proctor’s character such as being depicted as a corrupted, sinned man in the beginning of the play to a righteous character near the end. In the second act, John Proctor acts very aggressive towards others and commits cruel acts in the name of his Puritan village showing a lack of good moral values as well as respect for others.

Even though we are not providing much information about John’s childhood, nor his specific birthplace, but we can infer it was outside of Salem since he is isolated and constructed his own faction of his family from Salem. Despite the several flaws found through John Proctor's role in Arthur Miller's, "The Crucible" my analysis of Proctor's character reasons him to be a good man in the end. Within the play, John Proctor analyzes his past actions, realizing that his affair with Abigail Williams, deeply wounds his connection with his wife, Elizabeth Proctor. It is explained within the story by the author, that John Proctor's strong personality stems from his guilt. The speaker states, "He is a sinner, a sinner not only against the moral fashion of the time but against his own vision of decent conduct" (Miller, 255).

A person must be accountable for his or her actions. Proctor is very admirable for choosing his family and doing the right thing. And all though he did what he did with Abigail John proctor tried making things right with his family. While Proctor 's wife was getting over child birth Abigail was hired on as help in the process of being there Proctor and Abigail started to have an affair. As time goes on Proctor starts feeling guilty and tries to stop the affair with Abigail.

In the Crucible, many of the characters go through changes because of the intensity of the situation. But there is only one character that I think changed the most, and that is John Proctor who is the protagonist of the novel The Crucible by Arthur Miller. I think that John Procotor changes the most in the Crucible because he is in every act and mostly in every scene, and throughtout  the play I see more drama (Dynamic Character) in him than any other character in the Crucible and I will go through and tell you how John Proctor changes in the Crucible.     In the beginning of the play (Acts 1 and 2), we focus on John Proctor and we know that he is a good puritan citizen, a hard-working farmer and who is a husband and father.

In my opinion John Proctor is the protagonist of the crucible, because there are some reasons. One reason for me is that John Proctor is starting the Salem witch trials indirectly. It is Abigail who starts the trials, but she only does it to kill John’s wife to be the only one John love and they finally can get married. Because of that the relationship between John, his wife and Abigail is in the foreground. Another reason why John is very important in the Crucible is that he has a strong voice in the community.

She also does this to deceive Proctor into having emotions for her. Abigail believes that Proctor still loves her even though they have not seen one another in eight months. Even though Proctor smiles at Abigail’s actions, he is infuriated when she ask him to be with her again. Proctor has told her that their affair is over and is frustrated at Abigail every time she attempts to continue their partnership. The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, is about real life events that has been changed a bit by the author. The play is set back in 1692 in Salem, Massachusetts, were the Salem Witchcraft Trials were going on. The Witchcraft Trials were trials that mostly girls, but some men got accused of seeing the devil and doing work for him. If you were accused of being a witch you were to admit to seeing the devil, accuse other people, or you would get hung. Some people wouldn 't admit to being a witch just to save their life because of their faith in Jesus.

John Proctor is a good man despite anything others may say about him. He displays three very noble qualities throughout the witch trials which are bravery, honesty, and an overall goal to save lives even to the point where he sacrificed his. While many argue John is a bad man because he committed adultery they are entirely mistaken. Just because he had one bad sin gives no right to anybody to call him a bad person when clearly the good side of him is shown more than the bad. John Proctor is a good man who displays the characteristics of a hero and could be seen as one for giving his life for his friends.
