During the Industrialization, many may argue that it was a time where our people and land was treated horrible. But, this time period led us to greater and farther things that we didn’t know was possible. This Revolution was a step towards a dramatic and positive effect to America. Production and inventions were flying from left to right throughout this time. The railroad system became such a huge benefit to America, that the amount of railroad tracks was enormous. Many people were awed and so fascinated with the fact that long distant journeys wasn’t an issue anymore. They were able …show more content…
Inventions such as the sewing machine, telephone, and the light bulb helped with everyday lives and social interactions. Such as the telephone, help others to communicate with each other much more quickly instead of sending mail which can take weeks or traveling long distances to say hello. Also, these inventions that were being created help create new factory jobs for thousands of people. For instances, the sewing machine. “I have a very good boarding place, have enough to eat… The girls are all kind and obliging… I think that the factory is the best place for me and if any girl wants employment, I advise them to come to Lowell.” (Document 1) This excerpt demonstrates that she enjoys working and having a place to work. During this time, women felt independence while working. They never really had opportunities to work actual jobs, since they did mostly household chores/jobs. Factories gave them opportunities to help their families and themselves. The women in this excerpt even encouraged other girls to join the workplace. Factories also helped meet consumer demands. They were able to get unskilled laborers to do the job, which increased mass production. In Document 4, the graph that is shown …show more content…
Sometimes the change is good other times it’s bad. Or there’s another possibly the the change can be good and bad. The Industrial Revolution is sort of like that. Many people view it as such a positive effect, while others not so much. It’s always going to be a controversy, but to me it seems as though it had a huge positive effect for our society. The United States became an opportunity to people, it gave them the one thing every looks for, hope. It gave us hope to do something with ourselves. That can be creating an invention to save lives, or finally having a job. “This success did not come without a price, however, industrial growth brought with it a host of environmental pollution problems.” (Document 3) Although, horrible labor, living conditions, and pollution were some of the negative consequences we had to deal with, those problems were letter resolve in the future. Those were just a few items we had to dealt with in the past, but our inventions, railroads, and urbanization continues to this day. Those positive attributes made our country how it is today. Advancing our technology, transportation, and living situations. The industrial revolution will always have a lasting effect on our lives today and forever
These inventions were good for factory owners since machines did the same job as the employees at a faster rate and machines don’t get paid. By using machines, factory owners don’t have to worry about anyone getting hurt nor do they have to worry about how crowded their factory is. The Industrial Revolution didn’t only occur in the United States, it also occurred in Britain and Western Europe as well. The First Industrial Revolution merged into the Second Industrial Revolution around the 1850’s, when technological and economic development gained momentum. (Industrial Revolution)
This essay will explain why the process of industrialization is called a revolution and the effects it had on factories. Firstly, industrialization changed factories’ work. Before industrialization every product was made by manual labor. Industrialization introduced machinery to factories, which replaced manual labor. Industrialization would be considered a revolution because it brought a dramatic and wide-reaching change to how factories work.
Industrialization’s negative effects were little to no education, poor and/or unsafe working conditions, and pollution. Children working in factories had no time for school or to learn. Elizabeth Bentley of document seven had answered the question, “What time did you begin work at the factory?” (Document 7)with“When
In this time “The population of the United States more than doubled” (http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1G2-3406400169.html) because there was a lot immigrants coming to America. Also “The human resources available to American industry were as important as natural resources in enabling the nation to industrialize rapidly.” (Appleby etal 287). They worked long hours working in factories, mines, and even on railroads. Railroads played a big role during this time.
While some might argue that Industrialization had primarily negative consequences for society because of the dangerous working conditions with no compensation for injury, it was actually a positive thing for society. Industrialization’s positive effects were that there were more jobs, child labor laws were created, and there was better transportation. The first thing was that more jobs were introduced. This made it easier for people to provide for their family, and although everyone had to work, they were all able to get a job so they could work.
The American Industrialization was in the late 1800’s making many things to improve the economy. The American Industrialization was caused by multiple factors, some of the factors included a growing population, a willing work force, high tariffs, among many more. These effects made people willing to work at lower wages so they can get jobs and buy American made goods. There were many outcomes of the Industrial Revolution, both positive, like improving people's lives, and negative effects, like exploitation of workers. The positive effects of American Industrialization is how it make work cheaper, employed thousands of workers, and improving people’s lives.
During this new inventions, you wouldn't need to master anymore on a specific job. There is the assembly line where one just had to do one simple task, which allowed the mass production of goods. This process wouldn't have been achieved without the aspect of
The industrial revolution completely changed America as we know it. It brought many changes to our nation- some good and some bad. The Industrial Revolution changed how we produce and consume goods. It was so groundbreaking that we still feel the effects today. Prominent inventions of the time are pictured in document 3.
This next document shows the negative side of children working in the factories "This shows the ugly side of child labor, Lack of safety features/unsafe working conditions, the children working are very young they are obviously not in school/lack of education” (Document8). In this document they talk about how children working in these factories don’t get a good education, they do not have enough time to attend school. It also shows how they are very easily injured from working in these harsh conditions. Not only was there unequal pay for women, boys, and girls, but there was
Imagine a time where machines replaced people, iron replaced wood and steel replaced iron. A time where the electric light bulb has just been invented and the railroad was expanding across America. Industrialization was a huge turning and growing point for the United States. It helped shape the United States and the world we live in today. Through the inventions, development of businesses, and laws passed by the government industrialization had a positive effect on the United States.
The Industrial Revolution that began in Europe changed society in many ways. Some of these changes were positive while others were negative. A positive effect of the Industrial Revolution is more jobs are available. In document 1a only two people is needed to operated a machine and in document 1b more than one person is needed to use a machine.
Without a doubt, industrialization was one of the biggest factors in how the United States developed. It gave us the means of mass production, better transportation, and eventually the consumerist society that the United States is today. Industrialization did drastically change American society, but did it change America for the better? Did it do more good than bad? While industrialization did lead to multiple social and economic problems, the advantages significantly outweigh the disadvantages.
The American Industrial Revolution was a century-long transition from a culture dependent on agriculture to a culture with a more industrial based economy. This revolution marked a major turning point in history, and almost every aspect of daily life was influenced in some way. Many factors led up to this important period in history including mercantilism enforced by the british, which led to the Embargo Act, the greater opportunities available in industry that offered better wages and hours, and the various factory labor and entrepreneurial innovation, such as in the Slater Mill. Each of these things- war, opportunities, and innovations- individually aided in the development of the American Industrial Revolution.
A major debate among Historians is if the Industrial Revolution was helpful or harmful. The industrial revolution created a big change in the society of America. It was an age of innovation and creativeness for the inventors of the world. It was an age of sorrow and despair for the workers of the world.
The Industrial Revolution was one of the most important parts of history for America specifically because of its small amount of time being independant. The Revolution had many good and bad effects, some being well worth it others not so much. Throughout history many people have suffered for the well being of others, this wasn’t so different. I generally believe that the problems people dealt with in the Revolution led to a better cause which was an advancement in technology changing modern society forever. Some of the problems people dealt with in the Revolution were just temporary, because as more Information and improvements on science surfaced the less problems people dealt with.
