Forty eight seconds to show who we are, what we came to do, and what we are made of. Being sophomores and juniors we have to think about all of the college scouts that will be there, looking at our time splits and hoping we will get a call, a letter, or even an email asking for us to run track and field at their college. This is an important day. Not just for me, not just for my relay team, but for every single athlete here. This is the type of event that will put your name out there and help you find the college of your dreams.

The night before his cancer surgery, someone handed him an article about a cancer patient with a prosthetic leg who completed the “New York City Marathon”. This inspired Terry so he did a 14-month preparation training program to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research which we now today call the “Marathon of Hope”. On October 15th, 1979, he sent a letter to the Canadian Cancer Society where he announced his goal and funding. He promised to complete his run even if he had to “crawl every last mile”. The Marathon had finally begun on April 12th, 1980, when Fox dipped his right leg in the Atlantic Ocean near St. Johns, Newfoundland and filled two large water bottles with ocean water.
All proceeds went to the Southern Nevada Burn Foundation to help families in need. The competition was a partner workout
The documents given all point towards a specific idea: how the olympics affect the world. The method in which the olympics affects the world differs in the various sources, with some speaking on progress in political relations, some speaking on progress socially, and finally others arguing it affects the world as a place for hostile countries to prove their worth to each other competitively. The documents about political progress are documents 1, 5, 6, and 7. The first, document 1, speaks very specifically on one who believes that the olympics will decrease tension between countries.
Available to everyone in a non-competitive atmosphere, participants can raise funds for fighting cancer by completing the run to the best of their ability.
She motivates her audience, saying, “and that run-which felt impossible at the beginning, even harder in the middle, but gradually got better-seemed to be a metaphor for the whole training cycle” (Nolan 2). Throughout the article, she compares running to various things such as an item on a checklist, a prayer, or therapy. This deeper explanation of her argument helps the reader comprehend her ideas and thoughts. An individual cannot fully agree with an author’s argument or opinion until he or she completely understand the argument being presented. So relating running to other activities that occur to people on a daily basis allows the reader to understand and connect with the author’s point of view.
Put this on your calendar! I need as many of you as possible for this big NHS service project! I am especially looking to those members that have yet to participate in any NHS activities! Our fundraiser will be "Relay Rocks!" a take on Lakeland Rocks.
For my service on the Plunge, I first went to Our Lady’s Inn, where we talked to a woman working there, watched a video on their mission, and took a tour of the building. I then went to Grace Hill Preschool, where two girls and I helped out in a classroom. At Grace Hill we did a number of tasks including, helping them follow along in a book being read to them, playing on the playground and teaching and singing songs about daily tasks, such as tying their shoes, or packing their backpack. We finished the day at St. Vincent Depaul where we heard 5 women tell their story and experiences with poverty.
I am going to be running the Regent 's Park 10k run for a charity named Stonewall. I chose this charity as it is something I 'm extremely passionate about. This charity supports LGBT youth who are struggling with bullying. I am passionate about this subject as I struggled in and throughout primary and secondary school coming to terms with who I am and the names people called me. This bullying was a main part of why I suffered severe depression; With the right help though, I was back in a better and happier state of mind.
RUN! proves that with determination and the right attitude, anything is possible. It is a well written story geared towards people who are both runners and non-runners alike. Each story is well written and has many different life lessons that can be taken away from it. Dean Karnazes has written a story
Rough Draft Cross country is probably the simplest sport anyone will ever play. All they need is a pair of sneakers and a water bottle. The team runs together, but also as individuals. Cross country is great because even though it is hard, it will help make runners stronger and better at other sports they play.
It impacts the community because it encourages people to help those in need. Also in 2016, I was an Honorary Chairman for the Relay for Life event of Osseo, Wisconsin. I helped to plan the event and wrote a speech about my battle with cancer. My speech inspired the community to donate to the American Cancer Society. I inspired cancer patients to continue their battle against cancer and have courage along the way.
Just four simple words can have so much meaning. The Week of Running is an online program where the world can sign up and set up a goal for a particular week. The goal is to see how much running someone will do that week. Once the goal is set the runner then pledges money online as an incentive to reach their goals. The amount of running a person does is tracked on a device similar to a Fitbit and if their goal isn’t reached then the money that was pledged goes to the Obesity Action Coalition which is a charity that helps in the fight against obesity.
