John Quincy Adams is known as a pretty decent president. In a C-SPAN poll he was ranked number nineteen. He was very passionate about freedom of speech and universal education. His first year in office he had ideas that would help promote science and he saw the need for practical solutions to universal problems. He wanted to help the United States with his new ideas. While he was president the Erie Canal opened, he supported the Panama Congress, approved the Tariff of Abominations bill, and the Ohio and Baltimore railroad had begun. John Quincy Adams did deserve his ranking because he was a decent president but he could have improved on some things as well. John Quincy Adams also saw the need for practical solutions to universal problems. “As president, Adams faced steadfast hostility from the Jacksonians in Congress. He proposed a progressive national program, including federal funding of an interstate system of roads and canals and the creation of a national university” (Staff). A lot of different critics, especially Jackson’s supporters, argued that all of this advancement John was talking about exceeds federal authority according to the Constitution. A lot of people thought that John Quincy Adams was ahead of his time and that he was taking a lot of things too fast. He had a lot of critics because of that reason. While John was president, the Erie Canal was completed, linking the Great Lakes to the East Coast and allowing the flow of products such as whiskey, farm produce, and grain to Eastern markets. “Adams also sought to provide Native Americans with territory in the West, but like many of his initiatives this failed to find support in Congress” (Staff). John always tried to do the right thing for a lot of different people but was often shut down by Congress because they did not agree with his ideas. “In 1830, he ran for and won a seat in the United States House of representatives, once again distinguishing himself as a statesman of the first order” (Editors). John served nine post-presidential terms in Congress from 1830 till his death in 1848. He was very much against slavery and earned the nickname “Old Man Eloquent”. He got that nickname because every time he stood up to talk everyone become very quiet and began to watch him. He argued against Congress about slavery multiple times and really only won once about the freedom of slave mutineers on the ship Amistad. In 1843, John Quincy Adams traveled to Cincinnati to serve at the Cincinnati Observatory. On February 21, 1848, John had a stroke just before talking about the Mexican War. He slipped into a coma two days later and his final words were “This is the end of earth, but I am content.” He ended up passing away on February 23, 1848 in the United States Capital
Van Buren was the first president that was an United States citizen (because the other presidents were all born when America was still under British control). Martin Van Buren was also the first president not having English as their first language because of his Dutch ancestry. Van Buren was also the only president to not have a degree or military condition also. Our 8th president played a national and local impact because of his dedication to his own political views. His political career was summed up well by,
As president, John Adams had big shoes to fill. He served as George Washington’s vice president for both terms. The people loved Washington, but they were not as familiar with the man who came after him. Adams preferred to be a quiet leader instead of an attention seeker. Some historians believe his most trusted advisor was his wife, Abigail.
John C. Calhoun John C. Calhoun was a great politician of the 19th century. He strengthened the nation with internal improvements. Mr. Calhoun really wanted to charter a new United States bank t help the money situation and improve the economy. He was very supportive to all these national projects in Congress. John Calhoun was known as a very famous politician and was about to be elected president.
John Adams John Adams is more than likely described as a strong-willed man. Many would say he’s very opinionated but some believe he is a man who wants what he wants, so he’ll do anything in his will to get it done. John Adams was born in Massachusetts in 1735, starting his career with a Harvard education and attended law school. John Adams then moved up in his career to become the second president of the United States. Adams served as Vice President under the command of George Washington because he came in second place during both elections that took place.
My third is that he led a fight of an Anti-Slavery campaign. My fourth and final interesting factoid about John Quincy Adams is that he died on the exact same day as his rival Thomas
Necessary Conditions Illustrated in the Life of John Adams Many people throughout history know of John Adams as being one of the founding fathers, the first vice president of the United States and as becoming the second president. However on the other hand many of them do not know of him as being also one the most important people to contribute to democracy during his lifetime from 1735 to 1826. Historic Period(s) John Adams had such an important contribution upon certain events of the United States, an example would be how in 1774, Adams served on the First Continental Congress and being one of the many alongside Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson, had helped draft the Declaration of Independence.
He was based on what people thought of him without the people actually getting to know him. He was judged by the people because of the choices he made. Although he had a reputation for being kind and generous, Samuel Adams was one of the people that judged John. Samuel Adams was a fellow Revolutionary leader, so that would be like one of my peers judging me (which they do anyways but still). John was a very respected person with a very loving heart, he spent his own wealth for public projects.
Many people know about the United States first president, George Washington, but do they know about the second president, John Adams. John Adams was not a very liked president because Washington set the bar for the presidency pretty high. Adams was not a liked president for many reasons like the trouble with french, including setting off the XYZ affair, signing Jay’s Treaty, and sending the war fever through the United States, and one of the other reasons why Adams was not liked was the Alien and Sedition acts which violated the state's rights. The United States was having trouble with France because of the XYZ Affair, Jay’s Treaty, and a lot of people having war fever in the United states.
In this election of 1828 between a democrat Andrew Jackson and a republican John Quincy Adams, we as a nation must choose a man to make our country great. Andrew Jackson is a war hero, a man of honor and pride, who defended our country in times of need and won the battle of New orleans at all costs; he made responsible choices from tough corners for a better outcome. Let 's not forget his implementation for economic growth by eliminating national banks while odd as it may seem, but the working principle is that they are more prone to political corruption. And lastly his view on equality is that of a common man to another; he is against the tariff law passed onto the southern states which has large impact on our trades. He is also a law student and involved in political system for many years; from representative, senate to military governor in florida, he has experienced our country from many perspectives.
Based on John Tyler unexpected Presidency in 1841, he should be ranked with a 4.5. Though he was a slave owner and joined the Confederate State Congress during the civil war, he still had a very strong will during his Presidency that positively all Presidents after him. He would have been able to do much more if he was able to get anything past the other branches of the government. President John Tyler did not have much of any goals when he was inaugurated because he was serving as vise president before President William Henry Harrison died, but he did have some major accomplishments. At the beginning of office he had himself immediately sworn in which set a precedent for all Vice Presidents who became President.
He was selfish, he took land that rightfully belonged to the Indians and didn 't feel guilty about it. The battle he is known best for is the battle of New Orleans, he won the battle but that battle was not necessary. He was a sore loser, when he didn 't win president the first time around he accused Adams of corruption. When he became president he wanted to get rid of paper money, he hated it. Think about it for a minute, if he hated paper money, why should he be on it?
John Adams presidency was controversial. Following George Washington’s presidency, John Adams became president but not by many votes. John Adams presidency was an ineffective President of the United States. I believe he was ineffective due to the XYZ Affair, the Alien and Sedition ACts, his political parties, and him isolating his cabinet and him as vice president. First of all, the XYZ Affairs and Alien and Sedition Acts played an impact on John Adams ineffective presidency.
John Hancock made the world a better place in many ways. But he didn't make the world a better place by doing one thing….. he did many things. For example, he was a merchant, statesman and a prominent Patriot of the American Revolutionary War. He also served as president of the Second Continental Congress and was the first and third Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
A hero is defined as a person who is caring, honorable, and put others’ needs before theirs. John Adams is a great example of a this. John Adams was born on October 20th, 1735 in Massachusetts. He graduated from Harvard University in 1755, where he earned his undergraduate and master's degrees. In 1764, John Adams married Abigail Smith and they had six children.
