Who is Katherine Johnson? How was Johnson a key contributor to space exploration and how did her three accomplishments impact space exploration? Katherine Johnson a African American women, born in 1918 West Virgina. Johnson was very skilled in math from a young age to adulthood. But not just any type of math; the math Johnson did was geometry, calculous, and trigonometry. Johnson was a single mother of three beautiful girls due to her husband passing away from cancer. Johnson was highly trusted with the calculations to NASA for her unwavering accuracy. Johnson performed the historical 1969 Apollo 11 trip to the moon, and the following year when Apollo 13 experienced malfunctions in space, her contributions to contingency procedures helped ensure the safe returns of astronauts (www.biography.com). For Apollo 11 Johnson calculations were vital for Apollo moon landings and the start of her space shuttle program (www.investors.com). Johnson successfully got Neil Armstrong, Edwin Aldrin, and Michael Collins to the moon and back. Johnson made history right then and there even though she wasn’t given the credit she deserved until the ag of 93 (www.arts.com). Following her graduation, she moved to Cornell Medical School- obtaining her Doctorate in Medicine. After her graduation, she did several things before applying to NASA- she became an intern for Los Angeles County Medical Center, practiced general medicine, and then joined the Peace Corps, serving as a medical officer in Africa. When inspirational Sally Ride became the first American woman in space in 1983, Jemison quickly decided to apply for the astronaut program at NASA. However, shortly after her application, the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded- therefore, resulting in NASA taking a break from hiring.
There are many wonderful people in history, one of those people are Jacqueline Cochran. She had a few jobs but she felt that they were not the ones that she desired the most. She was first to do something, and what she did was something that is inspiring to us. Jacqueline Cochran was a person. She was born in West Florida circa in 1906.

However, after he grew up and became a senator, he went on to become the 17th president we know as Andrew Johnson. He was appointed after Abe Lincoln got shot.
Lyndon B. Johnson was the thirty-sixth president of the United States, he became president in 1963. Johnson was born in Texas and he graduated from Southwest State Teachers College. According to history .com during Johnson’s college career, he taught disadvantaged children to help pay for his education”. “This experience helped shaped Johnson 's desire to fix problems concerning poverty and discrimination”.
The thing that made her stand out at that time was that whilst she was working so much for everyone being equal she also fought for women's rights and their right to vote and for world peace at the same time. This led to her winning (co winning) the nobelprize year 1931 for peace. I think that Jane was an amazing woman who really sat an example for us women how to fight for women's right and equality but on the same time being kind and loving towards everyone and that is why she is my true hero. While Johnson continued a relationship with McRaye, it was made to seem a business relationship, although one doesn’t know of what their relationship consisted behind closed doors.
