A company can use lean thinking to increase product quality, improve decision-making, and enhance profitability. The last principle of lean thinking is perfection, this means continuous improvement, and focuses on value-added activities and eliminates waste. Rider Softball can use lean thinking to strive for perfection, and continue to improve the program. Five recommendations have been provided for the Rider Softball program. The first recommendation for Rider Softball to use lean initiatives is cost reduction, by getting a team sponsorship. Getting an equipment sponsor like Wilson, Easton, or Rawlings can help get the team better equipment at a lower price. The team as of right now does not have an equipment sponsor, and does not have enough money to supply every play with bats, and can not afford to supply gloves to the players. An equipment sponsor would not only help cost reduction, it will help the overall performance of the team, by allowing them to get all the equipment they need to play including personal gloves, bats, batting gloves, and helmets. When teams are sponsored by a company the equipment is discounted, and will allowed Rider Softball to afford essential equipment for every player on the team. …show more content…
Keeping a smaller roster is most beneficial for the team for cost, travel, and individual practice. If a player is not playing up to there potential or not working hard, Rider Softball should decrease or eliminate their scholarship money, so I can be used on better players or other athletic purposes. Each player on the team cost money for scholarships, traveling, and food expenses, if they are not helping the team they are non-value

Teams that play timidly, lack confidence, and give forth no effort, will never reach their full potential. Softball teams that struggle with fixed mindsets will ultimately fail, but could thrive with a growth mindset. Softball teams that sit back and play timidly in the field will never be successful. One example is, if a third-baseman was to sit back and wait for the ball to
In the article “Congress' 'Save America's Pastime Act' Would Allow Teams to Pay Minor-Leaguers Less than Minimum Wage,” Mike Axlsa explains the payroll that the teams should follow to add the $300 per player. He writes, “At any given moment during the season, there are about 4,500 players on minor-league rosters. Paying each of them an extra $300 per month would equal another $8.1 million total for the season. That's about one-third of what the Atlanta Braves will pay Adrian Gonzalez to play for the New York Mets this season” (Axlsa). He goes on saying that there have been multiple lawsuits trying to get their pay up but it has not succeeded.
The Unexpected That Changed My Life for the Better Friday Night Lights not only refers to the stadium that football players play in, but it also refers to every Friday night in September through November. That simple phrase brings back several memories, that carry emotional weight. Memories that are exciting, awe-inspiring, and even painful, and frustrating. The poem “Friday Night Lights” by Gerald Locklin summarizes some of the emotions that come with playing a sport, and brings about a deeper thought process. Being a part of a sport becomes your life, it teaches life lessons, helps build your personality, and shows you passions you never would have dreamed of.
High school coaches should not be required to give equal playing time to all players who make the team. Kids in society have been handed things their entire life. There has been little to no sense of accomplishment after earning a spot or position on a team. Spots should be earned by being the best at what someone does, not for pitty and for moral victories to make them feel good. “In high school, kids should understand playing time is earned.
On top of a scholarship, student athletes are also provided with many free things such as game tickets, apparel and equipment. Although scholarships take off a lot of the cost to go to college, they aren’t enough on their own. Most scholarships are not full ride and students are left to pay some school fines. Student athletes need an income to help pay the extra money they owe that the scholarship doesn’t pay for, and also so that they have some money when they come out of college. Paying college athletes is a way to encourage students to play sports.
Imagine a day in the life minor league baseball player. In a typical day, they do so much for nothing. In the morning they get up and make a quick breakfast, they eat it on the go and continue with their day. They get into their car and go straight to the field where they see their teammates getting ready for their warm up. They throw some ball and they start to talk with their coach and see what the plan for the upcoming practice will be.
To begin with, the lean methodology is one that is applicable to all industries, regardless of the present systems and approaches towards management (Tsironis & Psychogios, 2016). Therefore, the major decision is to proceed with the implementation of the lean and other improvement processes, even though it should take different approaches. When considering the challenges noted, most of them emerge from the reactions and actions of the
"Pay to Play" Participating on a sports team is an extremely important event for many high schoolers across America. Sports have almost become a lifestyle for many students across the country. Unfortunately the United States economy remains in a substandard position and cannot afford to give schools enough funding to cover all athletics. With this problem at hand, many schools have had to start requiring a "pay to play" policy in which the student athlete pays the school a certain amount in order to play for the team.

We have three different levels of teams—freshman, junior varsity, and varsity. We accept new members each year and train them, so within the next couple of years they become the experienced members of the team. With each team we have a coach—these coaches also shared the duty of being a coach for the other teams too in my case, but were dedicated to us when it was our time to play on the court. The typical case is mainly trying out and then starting as a player on the freshman team and making your way up till you are experienced enough to make the top level varsity team. That way as experienced members leave, they are replaced by the newer members who have been gaining experience to replace
Why can’t women’s sports get two and a half dollars too? Looking at it from a broad perspective, it could really help the girls create more interest in their sports. We deserve better balls, bats, helmets, etc. “$6.4 million, went to football and men’s basketball. Total expenses for all women’s sports in 2010 by over $4 million.” (Sports) That $2.4 million is what’s keeping the girls from participating.
For the last eight years, softball has shaped my life and taught me many things about leadership, sportsmanship, and how to work as a team. Softball has always made me happy, it’s not just the sport that makes me happy, but it’s the place that I get to go and the people that I get to play it with. Every time I’m on the field or in the cages I feel the most content. The softball field and cages are my sanctuary.
