Tim McGraw is an American country singer and song writer. Many of his albums have been on top of music charts, making him the third best-selling country singer. The one song that really sticks out to me the most is “Live Like You Were Dying”. Tim wrote this song for his dad Tug McGraw who died of cancer earlier in the year. (Wikipedia, Tim-McGraw). As I have examined the rhetorical situation throughout the text, the author, and the audience, I have found a better understanding of the argument that Tim McGraw is trying to present.
“Live Like You Were Dying” tells the story of a man in his early forties who gets the horrible news that his father has a life threatening illness. His father’s message to live life to the fullest and do the things he had wanted to do like go skydiving, mountain climbing, fishing and bull riding. He also says it made him become a better husband and friend. A important message coming from those lyrics is to make the most of the time that you are given. When the day God calls you home, your loved ones will be left with nothing but sweet memories of a loving person who

The moral of this story put into a song is to become a better you, doing everything you’d ever dream of doing. You only live once, so do it right, think about life as a gift. The lyrics in this song describe a man who not only had to face death in the eyes, he made every effort to make a positive turn to it. The song is simply sending a message to the listeners to lead a better life, you never know when it’s going to end. A message to live like you’re dying. In conclusion, everything is uncertain. The most important thing is the fact that you lived every day to the absolute fullest. You can never truly know what will happen next. I believe you should live every day to the fullest because you never know when your last one
Jesse Taylor is a drinker, un loyal, and always in trouble with the law. When the town baptizes him he finally becomes a better man because of religion. The song is categorized as in southern gospel music and pop along with country music. The song is a gospel song because of the religious themes and the quarter singing. It is also a pop classical song because of the piano and that the song was so good it crossed over into pop top hits.
In "2009," he reflected on his journey and the struggles he faced, singing "And I was digging me a hole big enough to bury my soul / Weight of the world, I gotta carry my own." These lyrics revealed the depth of his pain and the weight of his addiction, and they hinted at his growing sense of isolation and despair. In "Self Care," Mac Miller grappled with his own mortality, rapping "I switched the time zone, but what do I know? / Spending nights hitchhiking, where will I go?
In the following passage from the novel We Were the Mulvaneys, Joyce Carol Oates laments that even though most everything in one’s surrounding is dying, not everyone has managed to find the adequate amount of maturity to accept the fact that they are not immortal, even though the idea of death is difficult to come to terms with. Oates conveys this universal idea and characterizes the narrator through the usage of a depressing tone and dismal imagery. The tone set in the passage is fairly dark and depressing. An “eleven or maybe twelve,” year old child should not be fixated on the idea that “every heart beat is past and gone.”
The poem Truth, by Gwendolyn Brooks, has a lot of symbolism in it. Different things throughout the poem both represent parts of the Civil Rights movement as well as things that we can relate to our lives today. She did really well with her literary elements used, especially personification. This makes her writing more relatable and realistic in our minds to grasp. Truth is a wonderful poem full of all sorts of different literary elements.
Given the lyrics of this song it seems to be about love and the ending of a romantic relationship. The main chorus of this song is “Yes my life its better left to chance, I could have missed the pain, but I’d have had to miss the dance.” What I believe this to mean is that some things happen for a reason and if we knew how things would turn out the way they do we’d be missing out on some of the most beautiful moments in life. The music video of Garth Brooks that I analyzed is of him singing a live performance in 1990. You will notice that the song has a very slow beat with the drums and bass guitar and has numerous pauses to exaggerate the emotions of sadness and acceptance.
The Silent Killer Explication: “Alzheimer’s” by Kelly Cherry was published in 1997 during a time of personal struggle for Cherry and her dad. This short, free verse poem consists of twenty nine perplexing lines. The poet’s nontraditional placement of line breaks cause some ideas to fall off in mid-sentence, while others never complete the thought. This creates enjambments which mimic the disease’s confusing nature.
When we listen to Holiday’s version of the song, we are able to hear her ability to tell her own story through the lyrics of the song. Billie Holiday’s interpretation of the song demonstrates how
As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner In the excerpt from William Faulkner’s Southern novel, As I Lay Dying the author structures his novel through the use of literary features such as allusion, similes a belittling yet humorous tone, concrete imagery and a stream of consciousness style in the passage. Faulkner throughout the passage not only describes Cash’s reserved character and Darls perspective imagination but he also foreshadows the struggle the Bundren’s will go through as they prepare to go on the journey of burying Addie. First, Faulkner has the speaker Darl create a gloomy mood by using similes to display the ambiance in the room. Then Faulkner alludes to the bible and uses concrete imagery to illustrate both the surroundings and Cash’s concentration and determination as he makes his mother’s coffin.
These two poems were found from the internet. The first poem is ‘Two Dead Boys’ by Tyler Rager. The second is called ‘Don’t Change on my Account’ by Shel Silverstien. The first poem is full of contradiction and irony.
Over the course of the novel, Faulkner explores existential behaviors and questions about the meaning of life and death, as well as trying to understand the purpose an individual has in an irrational world. Characters such as Darl, Addie, and Vardaman all convey existentialistic behavior leaving them to view the world from a different perspective than other characters such as Jewel. Throughout the novel, Addie, Darl, and Vardaman all act differently than Jewel due to their existentialist ideas. Although it is important to understand the world around us, if we become submerged into our own thoughts and try to understand the complex world around us, we might lose ourselves in the process. At the heart of the entire novel is Addie Bundren, as her death and decision to be
His purpose in writing and performing this song is very simple, to motivate. Despite the record label not wanting to release the song for it being too lyrical and having too deep
There are many poems that discuss the relationship between a poet and their parents. The poets Andrew Hudgins and Dylan Thomas were in their late 30s when they wrote poems about their fathers. Thomas ' father was ill during the time that he wrote the poem. It is unknown if Hudgin 's father was ill during writing of his poem (Kirszner & Mandell 890-891). Andrew Hudgin 's poem, “Elegy for My Father, Who is Not Dead,” and Dylan Thomas ' poem, “Do not go gentle into that good night,” explore their feelings of their fathers ' imminent deaths.
He continues to travel and made more albums that focuses merely on his voice and his own acoustic guitar, and spend time for family and friends. He also talks at length about people who die on his original band including Luther Perkins and Roy Orbison. At the end the author says that he hopes he doesn’t disappoint the fans though they knew that he has aged. He hoped that all of the performers will die on stage, in the middle of a favorite song and surrounded by the loved ones and members of the band. II.
To begin, the lyrical tone is introspective. The lyrics in themselves motivate the listeners to reflect back on how they have been handling more major issues in their lives. “It 's time that I realize that there are some with no home, not a nickel to loan. Could it be really me, pretending that they 're not alone?” (stanza 5, lines 2-4); in these lines, Michael Jackson is advising others to review their past experiences, to see if they have been overlooking those in need.
In this poem, we are taught to value everyone because we don’t know their stories and we don’t know what they have been through. An example of this is “He tried to kill himself in grade ten when a kid who could still go home to mom and dad had the audacity to tell him “get over it” as if depression is something that can be remedied by any of the contents found in a first aid
