You should lift them up and provide to them someone who will be there for support. If the whole world could understand this basic concept of how to treat one another, imagine how much better this world would be. Finally, my reason in choosing this song is that it provides reality within a song that applies to not only the U.S. but the whole world. It also provides support to those who aren’t as fortunate as others and those who are going through hard times in their lives. Lupe Fiasco uses motivational and inspirational phrases throughout his song that motivate me to keep fighting through struggle and pain because in the end it’s worth it. In conclusion, as cliche as the message of this song may be, it’s a tremendously important message. The spread of peace and social equality are issues in today’s society that we see everyday. African-Americans are getting killed in the streets by police officers for misdemeanor crimes. It’s sad because it’s been fifty to sixty years since the civil rights movements and we have yet to see change in people. When does the hate
After Martin Luther King Jr. `s assassination in 1968, as well as the growth of black militancy and improvements in black employment opportunities, the Civil Rights Movement began to lose momentum (“Davis”). Today, many groups of people believe that the Civil Rights Movement had two diverse effects. One effect being that new opportunities, power, and rights were acquired by blacks. However, some veterans believed that the movement fell short of addressing the economic needs of poor
The moral of this story put into a song is to become a better you, doing everything you’d ever dream of doing. You only live once, so do it right, think about life as a gift. The lyrics in this song describe a man who not only had to face death in the eyes, he made every effort to make a positive turn to it. The song is simply sending a message to the listeners to lead a better life, you never know when it’s going to end. A message to live like you’re dying.

Beyoncé’s (Destiny’s Child) song Survivor “show a belief in women’s ability to solve their own problems, assuring us that whatever rough situation we’re in, well get through it” (Weiner, 2013, pg. 297). Racism in America has been around for centuries however it was in the 1960's that the attitudes of many Black Americans started to quickly change and they realized they wanted equality. Out of this, The Civil Rights Movement emerged which was a peaceful social movement that strove for equal human rights for black Americans. My Theme Song Songs can connect with how we feel and our experiences. Music has been a major part of my life ever since I was just a toddler. For me music has helped me express what I am feeling and who I am as a person. My therapy has been music, it has helped me through almost every problem I have faced. With listening to the song lyrics, we can get a true understanding of what the artist is trying to tell us.
Protest songs played important roles during the Civil Rights Movement giving people hope and outlook for a better tomorrow. Famous ones were Bob Dylan’s “Blowin in the Wind” or “A Change is Gonna Come” by Sam Cooke. These songs were products of the disconcerting oppression and racism and they still considered to be the most powerful protest songs ever written. Kendrick Lamar managed to follow the footsteps of these musicians and create impressive contemporary protest songs. He is the undisputed “king” of present-day Hip Hop, influencing generations from younger to older all around world.
Finally, Cole talks about how he’s going to make something out of himself even though he grew up living a struggling lifestyle. “Love Yourz” is one of the songs I can relate to because the lyrics show that no matter how messed up your life is, you should learn to love the life you have. “Love Yourz” made me realize that there will always be someone there to support my decisions and accept the person I am, and who I am to become Even though I cannot relate to having the status of a successful rapper, it is important to reflect on the ideas that J Cole emphasizes on. The hook (“No such thing as a life that’s better than yours”) sums up the whole idea of the song.
Many countries concurred with Luther King and agreed with his ideas because he made a difference for African-Americans and took a stand against racism. Yet the question today, over forty years later is: Was the African-American civil rights movement an overall success? Or is it the same now as it was back in 50’s and 60’s? For the purpose of this assignment the author will explore the literature and discuss the notion that racism and equality has changed as a result of the civil rights movement.
As time passes, people often think of their pasts and what they have done in their life, both positively and negatively. The lyrics of the song resonate with everyone, even the famous singer Macklemore who produced the song “Good Old Days.” In the song, he reflects on his past and the times he missed or regretted. Macklemore also writes “We’ve come so far, I guess I’m proud” which also shows that he’s happy with the choices he made and that they have gotten him to where he is now—a famous musician and writer. The music in the song has an upbeat and appealing tone to it with excellent lyrics, which made it a top 40 song in the U.S.
Over the course of human history, music has been an integral part of life. Music’s impact can be seen in every facet of the world today and it is a way to express feelings, tell a story, or prove a point. It can bring people together and can transcend communities, cultures, and ideologies. Although many do not realize it, music has had a profound impact on all human lives, and the lives of all others that have since died. Sam Cooke’s “A Change is Gonna Come’ is a song that defined a generation while bringing the oppression and injustice that African Americans experienced, on a daily basis, to the forefront of society.
Especially when he sings “for once in my life”, his singing becomes close to a whisper and it is long and drawn out, which leads listeners to believe that the singer is ashamed. He then goes into the lines “It’s gonna feel real good, gonna make a difference, gonna make it right” (stanza 1, lines 3-4), which means that he wants to make up for all the times he has disregarded those who may be suffering. He feels almost guilty, so it will feel good to get rid of that burden and to
Some of his managers and the team at Warner were hesitant about his selection. There was a lot of risk to leading off with such an unconventional song. And there was a lot riding on its success. But the Kid was in his zone. His instincts were dead-on.
This song matters because Macklemore is established and this song will inform everyone around the country, even world what’s happening. This song message affects all of us as citizens of this country surrounded by racism and inequality. The action macklemore wants us to take is to stand up and end this war against racism. Macklemore understands artist have taken from black culture as he calls these artisted out in his second verse.
All music has multiple functions. While music can preserve artistic value, it can also simultaneously tell a story, bring people together, historicize, heal, and rejuvenate. Most importantly, however, it sends a strong message and stimulates strong emotions to the listener. The song, “Where is the Love” by The Black Eyed Peas, performs all of these functions. The song symbolizes the sociological conflict theory.
