Malala Ethos Pathos Logos

In Florence Kelley’s speech she talks about child labor and everything bad about it. She is speaking to the attendees of the Woman Suffrage convention; however, she is also speaking to the people of America as a whole. She is fighting to abolish the ridiculous working conditions of child labor She believes it is wrong to work a child an extended amount of time. This speech is also a way to gain the ability for women to vote.

"I was a girl in a land where rifles are fired in celebration of a son, while daughters are hidden away behind a curtain, their role in life simply to prepare food and give birth to children" (Malala, 13). Cultural tradition is evidently a culminating aspect in the formation of societies and a direct consequence on the lifestyle of these families. Malala Yousafzai was born in Pakistan, a society which privileged man, even though since young she was determined to stand against the tradition and live for herself and for her family. In the first quarter of her autobiography, I Am Malala, she relates stories of her ancestors that demonstrates her inner pride which serves as influence to the building of her character. Pride is indeed a common characteristic that human beings share, which is satisfaction for our own achievements.

Eleanor Roosevelt, with her informal speech, the Adoption of the Declaration of Human Rights (1948), explains her opinion on the importance of the declaration and how we need to treat freedom has a right not a privilege. Eleanor supports her speech by using euphemism, apostrophe, and anadiplosis. Eleanor's purpose for the speech is to address the United Nations about human rights and its importance in the world. In her speech, “Women’s Rights are Human Rights,” First Lady Hillary Diane Rodham Clinton discusses the importance of fighting for women’s rights, as she argues they and human rights are one and the same. Clinton uses rhetoric, such as logic, empathy, and credibility, along with some propaganda to convince her audience of her point. The speech was given at the Fourth World Conference on Women on September 5, 1995 in order to convince people to stand up for women throughout the world and to respect their roles in society. Clinton supported women’s rights long before her speech. She had always been involved politically, first by being the president of the Young Republican’s club at her school (Harris).
